I've been looking for a Sykes tutorial on the web for years. Literally. Parts 1 & 2 are hands down the best walk. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sykes stopped me from checking out when I was a little kid. Was dealing with sexual & physical abuse. So I owe that man my life.
Sykes is so fucking awesome! I saw Blue Murder on their first tour front row in a small club and was blown the hell away! awesome band and what a sound he had!!
Well done my good man. Sykes is a beast...not many can emulate him well at all and you were right on the money. He is a huge influence on my playing as well. Cheers!
Man !.. Absolutely love your tone on this 👍 . I Have to say John Sykes is criminally underrated.. Blue Murder had 3 Great Talents Sykes/Appice & Franklin.
We are not worthy! That was spot on, even that tremendous solo from Billy midway through the song. Your practice has definitely paid off. Keep up the good work.
dude that was a awsome love john sykes awsome guitar player doesnt get the notariaty he should but well respected none the less you got his blue murder tone nailed down very kool
Utterly blown away man. No knocking against modern prog guitarists - but they are slightly soulless? This playing right here is just absolutely stunning. That 10:34 double stop bend never gets old :-) Love the playing as always
I loved Jelly Roll from that album as well. Such an epic ending after the acoustic part winds down. Your playing sounds great Euge, thanks for sharing!
Got to see Sykes in mid 80’s with White Snake. It was Helix, White Snake and Quiet Riot as the headliner and no one else on that stage could touch his playing or performance.
Fucking awesome man. Love sykes saw him live and he ripped my face off. His vibrato is wide and unique. Can't wait for his new album. You nailed his playing man. Made me smile so thank you. I am sure you are waiting for his new album as much as me! 🤘
Man you are such a good clean player always impressed with your playing !!! Awesome video John Sykes always a beast on guitar !! You could fill his shoes definitely!
There's been a few people out there with video's that have been close to finding the sound and notation to John Sykes legendary music, and I'm not bashing them for that, trial and error is the way to success, however Euge I believe you have nailed it, Thank you for the video your awesome...\../ \../
Euge, I'd say you're playing versions....of Sykes' versions....of his own playing. I actually appreciate it. The basic song structure and riffs, but with varying embellishments, just Lynch, EVH, Sykes, etc...might play live. I'm finding it inspiring, thank you😃👍
Well performed! I think you describe John's style pretty well, aggresive but melodic, I believe that melodic part John learned it from the master, Phil Lynnot. That duo was pure dynamite!!! Just fresh and crispy guitar sounds!!! I love them both so bad!❤❤❤❤❤
I have always seen John as the natural successor to gary Moore’s crown he is a new generation “Gary Moore “ as far as pentatonic rock goes……he has speed pin accurate tone bends and a kossofesque vibrato.
Your playing is top drawer Euge, I wish I could play my Tokai Les Paul like that, when you can cover one of the top Rock Guitarists, you are doing something right, what are the lockdown restrictions where you are, all my Pro Muso friends are well pissed off right now. More John Sykes please!
@@EugeValovirta230V true, but talent is also required, I am fortunate enough to have played with some really good musicians, always a good reality check, it just comes natural to them, I had to be honest with myself a long time ago, so took up singing, not great at that either, but get more chicks.
@@EugeValovirta230V The first sound of Still of the night is a great example. John makes those slides so loud and clear. I’ve been practicing them a lot and still struggle to make them meaty enough.
Great playing Euge, very close to John's! John only incorporates more pinch harmonics sometimes. Sykes' stuff still makes for great practice material. The solo of "Out of love" is played with a lot of feeling, that one is still more difficult for me to play than other one's. Another player I try to incorporate elements from, like tap vibrato, is Vito Bratta.
Watching this I just can't help making guitar faces, great stuff, breath of fresh air compared to everyone out there who is just becoming a clone of each other.
Excellent tone and playing! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Buying a Marshall JCM800 is in my plans, definitly, specially after seeing a few videos of you destroying on it... hehe.
Blue Murder, Valley of The KIngs, Billy! Awesome playing man. Love the tone and execution. Do you like the 2nd Blue Murder Album? Crying For Love, Shouldn't Have Let You Go, and She Knows are amazing tracks!
Thanks! It has it’s moments but I like the first one more. Those are great tracks but my favourite from that album is probably We All Fall Down. It jas that Thin Lizzy - swagger vibe that I really like 😎👌.
Thanks! BOSS pedals are good for everything and the prices are reasonable. I believe the plugin ”pedals” I used were based on BOSS. At least they look very similar 😎.
White Snake didn’t take off until Sykes came knocking board. After the two albums he did with them they never did anything that came close to measuring up to Slide It In and the 1987 album.
I'm sure someone has asked, but what model is that black custom tokai ? How does it compare to a gibson custom? Also have you ever tried a Burny john Sykes les paul? Thanks, and love your channel .
No idea except it’s a Japan made Tokai LP Custom which I have several. IMO Tokai & ESP makes better guitars than G. That’s why I use them 👌. Glad to hear thanks!
I’ve been getting into the tone and playing of John Sykes lately and was wondering if the EVH 5150 III amps would be a good choice. Mesa Mark III Coliseums and Jose modded Marshall’s are a bit out of my budget. Would the 5150 III get me there if so which one 6L6, EL34, or Stealth?
If you play like him an amp will amplify that. 5150 is always a good choise for anything IMO. I used a Marshall JCM800 on this one and it’s a good choise too 😎👌. I guess you just need to try them out and see what works best for you 👌.
@@EugeValovirta230V I will be completely honest and say I’ll never be John Sykes but, I do love his playing and tone and would love to incorporate some of his style into my playing. @Euge Valovirta, are those fast flurry type like that you are doing in goups of 6? I think Doug Aldrich does something similar. Do you have a video showing these kinds of licks?
Thanks! If I remember correct they were something like this on this one😎: Presence 7-8, Bass 10, Mids 5-6, Treble 6-7, Master 5-6 & Preamp 10. SD-1: Level 16 o’clock, Tone 1 o’clock, Gain 8 o’clock.

Just heard that John passed from cancer. He was truly one of the greats, huge influence on my playing. Too young.

The most underrated guitarist of all-time. The guy is/was phenomenal!

No fcking doubt... Add Nuno Bettencourt to that list as well
Sykes is the player that made me want to kick ass on a Les Paul, only second to Randy Rhoads. Thanks for offering this video for us, Euge!
💪👌. My pleasure ☺️. Thanks!
Sykes for me was all about the vibrato, Second to none. Seen him a few times live with Thin Lizzy. You did a good job . Excellent
Thanks Justin!
Sykes is pretty solid picker as well 😅
I don't even play guitar but your tone is absolute killer!

How to make those signature John Sykes epic megaslides to pop out? I would love to hear some tips.
