CLIP DESCRIPTION:
With Mrs. Cole (Jennifer Tilly) on the witness stand, Fletcher (Jim Carrey) proves that her prenuptial agreement was invalid.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
An attorney who tells the truth for 24 hours straight? This has got to be the movies! Fletcher Reede (Jim Carrey) is a lawyer obsessed with his career, and he's devoted his life to bending the truth to his advantage. This habit has broken up his marriage to Audrey (Maura Tierney) and isn't doing much good for his relationship with his young son Max (Justin Cooper). Fletcher repeatedly promised Max that he'll be there for Max's eighth birthday party, but when an important assignment comes up at work, Fletcher calls Audrey and makes an excuse so flimsy that even Max can see through it. When it comes time to blow out the candles on his cake, Max makes a wish: that his Dad could go just one day without telling a lie. Suddenly, Max finds himself physically incapable of saying anything that isn't true -- which, given the divorce settlement case he's just been handed, is going to make his next day in court very interesting indeed. While designed to show off a warmer and more likable side of Jim Carrey's personality, Liar Liar still revels in the broad physical comedy that made Carrey a star in Ace Ventura, Pet Detective -- which makes sense, since both were directed by Tom Shadyac. Both Carrey's fans and foes will get a chuckle out of Swoosie Kurtz's tongue-in-cheek insult to the film's star in the blooper reel that runs under the final credits.

I liked that they portrayed the husband as a seemingly decent guy who genuinely loved his kids. It would've been so easy to make him a stereotypical rich jerk, but then it wouldn't have been such a wake-up call for Fletcher after he (inadvertently) took the man's kids away from him. He, a lousy father, spent the whole day in fear of losing his own son, and causing his worst fear to happen to a better father was the last straw for him.
yeah they made Jim do more after the cliche win, that really made it even more interesting.
Which is why the “I HOLD MYSELF IN CONTEMPT! WHY SHOULD YOU BE ANY DIFFERENT?!” hits so hard and so deep.
I love Jim Carrey acting in this scene. His energy is unmatched. I don't think there a many young actors that can pull this off.

I met Jennifer Tilly and one of the questions I asked was what was it like to work with Jim Carrey. She said his energy was amazing, she went to work knowing she was going to be laughing through the majority of it because of him. She said he has a talent that only comes around once in a generation when it comes to comedy and its a talent that can never be taught, you have to be born with it and he definitely was born with a comedic talent like no other.

Even if the marriage contract at the time was also void because she was a minor without parental consent, we also know that she was born in 1965, hence this very long cohabitation would have been codified as a contractual common law marriage, hence, the state law of equal property would then seem to apply. Obviously, this is a slapstick comedy, so the whole thing is just a discussion for the hell of it. I absolutely love this movie...it is hilarious on so many levels!

To be fair, Fletcher recognises it’s his fault for “corrupting” her with his lies, as earlier in the film it is him who convinces her to take the case as far as they do (half the money) as she wants a settlement at first. Fletcher recognises the bad he’s done, bursts out in objection and is put in contempt of court.

The system is biased towards the wife. They actually address the unfairness when she tries to go for the kids too and Jim Carrey gets upset.
And a major buzzkill when the kids clearly want to stay with their father.
The husband's still a creep; he must have maybe 15 years on her, judging by looks. What kind of normal 32 year old marries a teenager? Thinking that she was 18, that doesn't make it much better.

She would be answering for a crime she commited as a minor and that's already a lighter sentence. Plus, it's been years anyways since she commited it. As for the marrige laws, they're there because usually the wife takes care of the kids and home but in cases like this with rich people who have maids it does get unfair.
