You know if you think about it this whole scene is actually very brilliantly done. The building is supposed to be heaven. The elevator is the second coming which is why it's out of order because he's not ready for everyone to come up yet. So you take the long way or live out your life which is the stairs. It definitely was a gamble, but he explains mid=movie that Bruce's powers were restricted to one section of the city he lived in, because God knew Bruce would make too much of a mess otherwise. Makes you think about the gamble God takes with the small influence each of our individual free wills wield over our immediate surroundings. I LOVE this movie -- the more you think about it, the better it gets.

I was very young, maybe 10, when I watched this movie first time. Something felt unusual watching God mopping a floor.
I later understood the sheer significance in this - God is trying to say that in doing the most mundane and humble of tasks, using nothing but physical strength, he who manages to find peace, is god unto himself.

Jesus said “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the last of all and the servant of all.” Yes God humbled Himself by: becoming a man(Jesus), born in a barn, worked as carpenter, didn't have a home, washed His disciples feet, healed and served others, was beaten/ridiculed/spit on and killed by His own creation to save them from their sins. It always gets me in movies - even comedies, how often characters don't react even remotely appropriately to Magic/miracles/phenomena. Often they may make a shocked face and then just carry on as if the impossible did not just occur right in front of them.

You know that old trope about meeting a divine being, but they can't handle seeing their true form so the divine being takes on a form they can perceive without their head exploding? I feel like anyone who has seen this movie would see God as Morgan Freeman. Who's with me?
