I've been searching and searching looking for something to help me understand all the different ideas floating around on the internet about how to read and pronounce ancient Egyptian. It seems like there is a lot of conflicting and/or misinformation. This one lecture has helped me immensely, and I really feel confident that what you are saying is totally correct. Thank you!

Sharon you are wrong, the hieroglyphs has never been deciphered. These are interpretations based on the rossetta stone which was a Greek invention...given the Greeks lies about where they gained their knowledge it's sufficed to say these are also lies..keep researching

The idea that Ancient Egyptian is the universal ‘Ur-Sprache’ or “Mother Language of the world” (as is said at 5:30) because it preserved the full directional spectrum of reading conventions is simply ludicrous- and this from an Egyptologist.

Hey, you better take that back! I am a Kemeticist, and that is someone who is a practitioner of ancient Egyptian religion. This sacred language is, indeed, the holy mouth of Kemet, and there's nothing you can do to detour me from my ancestors. All I wish is to rediscover my divine family, and I'm not stopping at anything to behold them.

    • @dorianphilotheates3769

Uncle Vic JR - If you wish to commune with your ancestors through their writings, I would advise that you start off by learning to read hieroglyphic script (if you haven’t already) and get to know the language of Ancient Kemet - perhaps Coptic as well, since it’s so useful. Good luck on your quest!

Did you say there's 360 signs? That's 1 for each Egyptian day or "prophetic day" am I correct? 355 Lunar days, and 365 Solar days, was averaged (in ancient times and I suppose arguably) into a 360 day "prophetic year" widely used by Hebrews but probably among others as well.

  • @IDNeon357

I believe the "Ghain" or GH sound you ask for a Western version, the "Parisian R" is how it is described.
Like Baghdad, the GH is a "Parisian R".

I'm imagining Mel Brooks doing a comedy film on how those Egyptians came to write their language.
    Imagine if you will
A bunch of scribes, highly educated literates of the court, the Pharaoh and his council gathering around and testing every bird, animal (including human slaves), snakes, chickens, chicks, owls etc. and things like pots and pans, drums and arrows, water containers and so on.
More like the scene of the art critic in History of the World book 2.

Marijuana is described in an ancient book from Egypt as a healing plant, but I don't remember the name.
They would also sniffy sniff the water lily which would allow them to fall in trance and perform oobe
And they probably were consuming dmt, which is in the bark of their tree of life - Acacia Nilotica.
Also dmt entities' descriptions seem pretty familiar to the Egyptian gods, but in the end, no one can know anything for a fact.

All those "where did XYZ come from" questions tend to forget the fact that people have been moving around like crazy ever since we crawled out of the darkest Africa. We first moved upwards, probably went past Egypt without looking, then some came to Europe, others pressed on (some to the Siberia, some to the Americas over ther melting glacier, some to the plains of China and India, as well as the islands of Indonesia and Australia), while others stayed in the region of Mesopotamia, only to later (again, only for some of them) to come back to Egypt and kick start their own civilization. But it was all some 10,000 years ago, the only clue we have on their motions is their DNA.

Sir...narrator you are wrong and misleading the people the letter L was not initially used for the “lying lion” glyph by the Ancient Egyptians. They used R (which also uses the glyph for -the mouth of RA)and the lion as a symbol of RA's power and strength. The Greeks changed Re to Leo and then English calls it Lion.

    • @rbruce92
      @rbruce92 7 років тому

Some of them can be used in a similar manner to our letters. Some are digraphs, others are syllables, others can be read as words alone. Many are there for clarification if the context is uncertain (as in our words "hoarse" and "horse", or "they're" and "there").

There were a couple of Arab historians (I guess you could call them Egyptologists) who allegedly managed to interpret correctly at least some of the hieroglyphs, although not enough to actually translate the entire thing. What I don't understand though is why the Demotic script was so difficult. I mean, it was used all the way until 452 AD, in the 9th century the Christians in Egypt might have been long accustomed to using the Greek letters but I refuse to believe their language could have been so radically different from just a few centuries back and all knowledge of the Demotic was lost and nobody could give them at least a slightest clue as to what the Demotic meant. And if they had cracked the Demotic, dealing with the hieroglyphs would have been much easier.

You make me sad for humanity. A google search would had done it. The famous tablet containing hieroglyphics along side known languages allowed the beginning of the translation of hieroglyphics, known as The Rosetta Stone. Vowels were not typically included in their writing however, making their pronunciation difficult to reconstruct.
