    cant believe you let the caliper hang on the line like that. broke my heart. and probably weakens your lines.

    wow, just wow; I can't believe all of the bad techniques used in this video (I skipped around to 8 min and then stopped) and it all started with the brick and stone "jack stands". if you are looking for advice in changing/removing pads/rotors, please seek another video. I'm sad I wasted my click and now it's off to another video...

    You might want to consider adding the fact that it's important to open the brake fluid reservoir cap when depressing the cylinder on the caliper and also VERY, VERY important to LUBRICATE THE GUIDE PINS and DO NOT OVERTORQUE THEM. Not a bad idea to check the boots and bushings while you're at it. Not doing so is a prime way to seize the calipers. The MK4s are notorious for encountering this problem on the rear calipers and the fronts aren't unheard of for the same...

    Hey man, I recommend decreasing the volume of your music. It is far overpowering your voice. It is a bit of a distraction.

    Another way to get that screw loose, is to use a wide hammer and gently tap & turn the screw driver at the same time. This will loosen the screw & also help not to strip the screw head. I've owned 6 different VW's all the way back to MK2 and it works every time. :)

    4'50'' the flex hose is damaged that way. Don't let the caliper hang only by the flex hose. Use a hook and hang the caliper to the shock absorber spring.

    Video ends with the guy that refuses to install retaining clips maybe because it's too difficult. People: don't waste your time uploading tutorial videos that are absolutely wrong. And people: don't waste your time seeing this useless tutorial videos.

    The 2 most annoying things when I was changing VW breakpads... The stupid clip and the stupid sensor thing. Took me forever to figure it out
    Gonna be changing my rear break pads soon and hopefully it's less hard. I think the only tricky part will be the piston cause I think the rear ones have to be rotated while it gets compressed.
    But other than, once I got the 2 hard parts done, the other side only took about 10 minutes.

    Hears a tip bud see before you losen the calliper push the calliper piston back with a small pry bar until it's as back as it will go and then losen the brake calliper pins until they come out of the dust cover because when you used a screwdriver you could of wrecked threads in the pin and that's a mistake you don't want to make bud and when you take the brake calliper hub carrier off use a braker bar because the bolts can be very tight and more leaverage the better when you get the carrier off you use a impact Phillips screwdriver to help to losen the screws don't use a blow torch if you make a mistake it can be a bad one and when you use a blow torch you are heating the hub and your wheel speed sencer is bolted on to the hub and if you melt that you are fucked but you are learning and I may say well done for trying bud Iam a experienced mechanic and I have done hundreds of pads and discs dude but well done for trying dude

    • @jmhall918
      @jmhall918 9 років тому +2

      xboxgeak If you're an experienced mechanic with hundreds of brake jobs done, why are you watching How To videos on UA-cam? Also, this is called a period. It's what separates the end of one sentence from the beginning of the next. Magazines and books use them as well. Crazy right?

    • @calliemagnuson8975
      @calliemagnuson8975 8 років тому +1

      He was only offering constructive advice that is good advice. As he stated good job trying and I'm sure all went well. As others have stated about the brake lines letting them hang is a huge no no that I did get away with in the past. You don't want to end up like me 500 miles away from home with your caliper dragging cause the internal part of my brake line split causing a disaster. The 5 seconds it takes to hang it on a wire is time well spent. I'm not sure about the blow torch comment I'd like to see propane heat an assembly that large to the point of melting sensors on the back side. Impact screwdrivers are less than 10 bucks anyway and would be your best bet.

    Complete bollocks, this should be removed from UA-cam,1, Don’t use a blow torch.2, Never let the calliper hang by the brake line.3, Remove cap off master cylinder before pushing piston backIf you are going to show a remove and replace pads and discs video show all the steps required.The only thing you get with rushing are “ mistakes and baby’s “

    Guys, so I put new pads and discs on my Jetta but the pads seem to be way too thick. To where both pads touch the disc even with the caliper piston all the in and as a result also, the spring that goes back on the end no longer fits. Any ideas?

  • @bertmollar
    @bertmollar 9 років тому +1

    its a 7mm allen for the guide pins. not a T45 torx, although that would probly work. you also must have a different carrier on yours. most vdubs i work on you cant get the rotor off without removing the carrier

    • @r.t.7925

      +Bert Alan might be because it,s a GTI - when i went buy the pads , they had two types bigger and smaller

      on the 'basic' model golf you have a 7 mm fastener, but the GTI has a different brake design.

    • @john-bjorn
      @john-bjorn 5 років тому

      I have a VW MK4 GTI -99 and it's 7 mm allen for the guide pins on mine.
      I also cannot get the brake disc off without removeing the "carriers" or whatever they are called. But I wish I could though!

  • @stefanvariyski5901

    So the question is : Is a3 8l (tdi engine) the same as MK4(gti) for that procedure? When u push the piston back, does it come back by itself or after u step on pedal, or i need to do something more precisely?

    Brake discs and brake pads you mean.. not rotors lol. also a good idea to smear copper grease on the threads of screws and bolts and wheel nuts. It'll stop then from seizing
