I had a side air bag blown in my 04 Jetta TDI, found a good replacement in the junk yard. One thing I ran into, was that I did NOT check to see if there was any junk in one of the tracks. I found an odd strip of black plastic, and tried to work around it. It kept it from letting the entire seat come out completely. So I pulled the plastic out with pliers... it was a black plastic pen, that matched the black carpet oh too well. Thank you for having this video out (and your other videos).
It's best to disconnect the battery first, that way the system does not know the seat wiring has been disconnected. So the light wont come on and no need to go to VW to have the kight turned off.
Nice one bro, I been looking to break my gti fir ages and I mean MONTHS but didnt have a clue (and was lazy)! Your vids just got me started, thanks bro! Shak.
Simply sign up, then put a link on all your vids. People, who sponsor you pay patreon and you access the cash. Simples. Look up Project Binky, they list all their sponsors at the, end of each bid. I guarantee you will make money, Brother, your vids help loads like me who like tinkering with our motors but need help to do the simple but not so obvious stuff.
This was really helpful. My passenger seat can't "get stuck", in a lack of a better expression, on the most laid back position, any idea why before I remove the seat?
I bought a MK4 03 gti 2dr. with a nice interior BUT out of a 4dr, stupid me, didn't even try to get in the back, No folding front seats. Would the tracks be the same would I need those as well to convert back.
Dude your vids help out A LOT!! I been wanting to swap my seats out for the longest with some leather ones from a donor car i have, i swapped out my 2.0 for a VR6 an the donor car has leather seats, i wonder though about the wiring cuz the seats are heated and my original car does not have that option i can wire some stuff up though if i need to, damn 2 screws an two nuts thats it?? Subscribed, your channel has much info on these cars thanks a mil
I have a question My golf mk4 gti 2002 Doesn't want to go into reverse but after going into drive and back to reverse it catches reverse it has the automatic box not the steptronic
Excelent video. I have a Golf MK4 with the same seats. When I drive in some corners or roundabouts I feel the seat a little loose. Do you know how can I fix it?
I'm having an issue with the passenger seat in my 2002 golf, it should slide forward and flip up but it doesn't flip up properly, or snap back down. Any advice?
Szia Megoldódott valahogy a problémád? Ma én is kiszereltem az ülést aztán visszaraktam (csatlakozót is visszadugtam) de kivillant a légzsák. Mit lehet ilyenkor tenni? Az akksit nem vettem le.
Mate, disconnect the battery before touching the seat. Especially on VW products as they have a tendency of igniting the passenger seat airbags at a stand still due to high resistance at the connectors. (Service bullitens to this effect) also It eliminates the possibility of a fault code being set.
i have a question i have an edition and my adjuster cable snapt of my undercarriage and no the cable snapped. can i change the undercarriage of my seat where the adjusting cable is still in the same position?
I have a 01 Bora and my passenger side door is like the bolt on the slider that allows the chair to move back and forth has snapped only on one side and the chair wobbles when someone gets out and slightly lifts going around corners if no one is sitting in it..wondering is it an issue whereby ive to get a entire new chair or what would you reccomend? take out the seat and weld it back on :/ saves an expense but seems a bit cowboy
Hey, if I remove the old seats and put new seats on which I attach the airbag sensors. Do you think there is going to be a light on the dash warning me that there are issues with airbag. I am not sure if there are any differences calculated by the car pc about the seats.
My vw golf 4 has the driver seat loose alittle bit from right aft corner, i notice this looseness when i get in the car & when i drive on a sharp curves, do you have any idea if its a matter of loose screw or the seat should be welded to fix this issue???
Hi, I have mk4 golf which has fabric seats but, heated in the front. I have managed to get hold of leather recaro seats for the whole car with also the heated fronts. Is it the same as this vid? I mean just unscrew, unclip cables and replace in same order? Thanks again.
hi is the air bag connettor the yellow and purple or the white one and wich ever one is the air bag connettor what the other one for as its only my air bag light what on thanks
changed out my gl seats to gti seats and now I do have an airbag light on the dash.. what do I do to get it back off.. I'm pretty sure I have all the connectors plugged back it.. please help
i dont mean to be offtopic but does someone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot my password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me!
@Ryder Shane I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
I just had a battery spill sulfuric acid all over my carpet, now its all gotta come out. Oh well I guess, as I'm gonna be racing the car anyway and putting racing seats in and all that good stuff but I am certainly not very happy about it. Helpful vid though even as easy as it is to remove them it helps to look stuff up so you aren't just tearing your car apart.
The seats of my MK4 r32 won't catch when I release the handle I can feel it clicking over the spots where it would lock up and stay in place but it just keeps sliding
You dont need to take the seat off, just pull it all front, then there is a system in the middle, and the stick which make the seat stable in position is out of oil or vaseline. so, 1st step) seat all the way front and up, 2nd step) u will see the middle system with a stick on RIGHT side all the way back 3rd step) take away the little holder of the stick, then pull it away from it and u will see the iron stick. 4th step) clean this stick, use vaseline and put it right back 5th step) try the system, it will work its this easy ;)
I have a question. I have a mk4 golf. I swapped out the factory seats for gli mk4 seats. My airbag light keeps coming on. Ya know what that might be about?
YUNG DUCK if you unplugged the seats with out disconnecting the battery, the Airbag ECU would have registered a disconnection in the ECU codes. It just needs to be cleared by computer.
SEAT NOT LOCKING INTO POSITION? In almost every forum I've seen they just say spray the heck out of every moving part under the seat (specifically at the locking mechanism). I suggest doing that initially, but it may not last. The problem is the grease has seized up and needs to be cleaned. Raise your seat all the way up and look at the release handle. Follow the handle cable around to the round pin mechanism. At the top of the mechanism there is a clip which is U shaped (that needs to come off) It is split into 4 fingers. Each finger has a bend in it that locks the pin on it the bracket. You have to pull the front side of the clips out from the front, slide the seat forward and pop the back side of the clips out. I did this with a few screw drivers. Once the clip pops up I used needle nose pliers to pinch down the black clips on the cylinder. Wiggle the black cylinder out. Once it was out, I sprayed into the black housing and sprayed the metal in. The grease was thick and non lubricating. I sprayed it well, wiped it off. Then resprayed and put it back. Works very well. This process took me about 35 min. The job is easy getting the clips off was the pain.
@Brandon can you direct me to a video or diagram of how to do this please? My passenger seat isn't flipping up all the way, or snapping back down properly. Thanks
I'm not sure you have the same problem. I was just talking about the seat lock that lets the seat slide forward or backward. Is that the problem your having? Or is it the actual seat tilt your talking about? The seat has 3 different adjustments (at least on my 2000 Jetta). 1. Slides forward toward the dash and back towards the back seats. 2. The back rest leans forward or backwards. 3. The whole seat lifts up as you pump the leaver. Which are you talking about? Or what are you trying to do? The article I posted on was the seat won't lock into place, it would just slide forward and back.
Yeah the seat slides forward and back ok... on mine when you pull the release lever, it lifts up, folds foward and comes up off the floor to give access to the back seats. The lever tension seems fine, the issue I'm having is it seems like the seat doesn't come forward all the way and won't lift up all the way and won't snap back down to the floor
I have the same problem as the other writer. The drivers seat stopped locking into the grooves/teeth. The seat rockets all the way back-alarming and I can't reach the pedals.
+Rae Patton I have this problem in the winter... WNY gets pretty cold but during warmer months I have no issue. Wish I had an answer for ya very alarming... should be a recall... or maybe we join the suing VW party :)
Thank you sir I'm still stripping away. Someone can use this for an alh swap. Dash is all out, harness is unplugged everywhere except going to the back. Time to pick at the interior :)
I'm pretty sure if you take the negative off the battery and leave it for 15 minutes before doing anything you'll be fine. Reduces the chance of the airbag going off whilst removing the seat too.
I had a side air bag blown in my 04 Jetta TDI, found a good replacement in the junk yard. One thing I ran into, was that I did NOT check to see if there was any junk in one of the tracks. This was really helpful. My passenger seat can't "get stuck", in a lack of a better expression, on the most laid back position, any idea why before I remove the seat?

Great video, gives confidence and inspires. one thing, does the airbag light go out after you re-connect it or does it need obdII to clear as a fault?
If you do it with the battery disconnected you should be alright as long as you reconnect it once you're finished
Can you please make a play list of just things you've done on diesel cars? Love your vids. Keep it up man
is your car a 3dr or 5 door?
Dude your vids help out A LOT!! Remove the negative terminal from the battery before working on airbag equipment

I'm having an issue with the passenger seat in my 2002 golf, it should slide forward and flip up but it doesn't flip up properly, or snap back down. Any advice?
Very good video. I adjusted the driver seat on height and my airbag light came on. I will try to take the seat off and plug back the connector.

Hey, if I remove the old seats and put new seats on which I attach the airbag sensors. Do you think there is going to be a light on the dash warning me that there are issues with airbag. I am not sure if there are any differences calculated by the car pc about the seats.
nice!!
same for golf 4 variant, 1999?
My vw golf 4 has the driver seat loose alittle bit from right aft corner, i notice this looseness when i get in the car & when i drive on a sharp curves, do you have any idea if its a matter of loose screw or the seat should be welded to fix this issue???
Thank you, about to head to the junk yard. Have a small hole developing in my driver's seat. Drives me nuts 😀
What does the large spring on left side under seat do? I have two Jettas and they both came off!
Hi, I have mk4 golf which has fabric seats but, heated in the front. I have managed to get hold of leather recaro seats for the whole car with also the heated fronts. Is it the same as this vid?

I just had a battery spill sulfuric acid all over my carpet, now its all gotta come out. Did you disconnect the battery before taking the seat out?
I don't remember to be honest, but you can do it if you want to.
Thanks your videos are very helpful
Do you have a video on repairing heated seats?
No sorry
The seats of my MK4 r32 won't catch when I release the handle I can feel it clicking over the spots where it would lock up and stay in place but it just keeps sliding
Great video buddy thanks, I could see everything you did nice and clear, nice one. :-)
Glad you liked it, i hope you have subscribed
I'm used to unplug the battery before unplugging the seats so that the ECU doesn't throw airbag fault codes.
my seat wont lock down it eaither goes all the way forward or all the way back. what is causing this issue?
You dont need to take the seat off, just pull it all front, then there is a system in the middle, and the stick which make the seat stable in position is out of oil or vaseline.
so,
1st step) seat all the way front and up,
2nd step) u will see the middle system with a stick on RIGHT side all the way back
3rd step) take away the little holder of the stick, then pull it away from it and u will see the iron stick.
4th step) clean this stick, use vaseline and put it right back
5th step) try the system, it will work
its this easy ;)
Thanks man! Just what I needed
Yes it is
What is that bracket at the front of the seats called please, the one attached to the car not the seats
So what if the seat is completely stuck all the way forward, and the lever to move it doesnt work
Dynamite!
I have a question. I have a mk4 golf. I swapped out the factory seats for gli mk4 seats. My airbag light keeps coming on. Ya know what that might be about?

Ok sweet deal and thanks a lot. Do you know if autozone does it? Or will I have to take it to a vagCom or dealership
i think autozone can do it
YUNG DUCK u
Thank you from Norway.
