I live in Fairwood and I LOVE IT. It’s truly an amazing neighborhood from the beautiful trails to the convenience to everything. Thank you for the list.
Raised in Bowie's Kenilworth section from age 3 until I moved to Arizona at 22. Been back to visit many times. Unfortunately, the entire area has turned in to a complete rat race. No going back now, but to see it today makes me extremely sad. The community (as a whole) has definitely gone WAY downhill and will continue to do so as the Levitt homes push 60 years old. Some parts are unrecognizable. Kenilworth Elementary is terribly dilapidated and in need of a major renovation. I took my girlfriend for a visit and nostalgic walk around Foxhill pond and you can't even walk on the pathway for the sheer volume of dog feces. Smells terrible and the pond is nothing but a swamp now with a little open, muddy water in the middle. I used to work for Park & Planning, Landscape Development Dept., and their quality of care for the county's parks has become abysmal. I only have one friend left in Bowie and is the only reason I would ever enter the city limits again. Too too bad for a place I loved so much! What memories, but unfortunately only memories. The REAL Bowie is gone and now only a shell exists.
I have been a resident of Bowie for many years and lived in the O section off Race Track Road. I totally agree that it has changed over the years, but nothing really stays the same. Yes, those Levitt homes are aging a bit but many of them have had upgrades that have raised their property value as well as providing much-needed facelifts. Think of all that Equity! As an avid runner, I have run on many of the trails and I share your concern with their upkeep. A couple of years ago, I participated in one of the Planning Commission's meetings that allowed some residents to weigh in on some of the upcoming proposed changes and upgrades to the Trails and Parks in Bowie and surrounding areas. I am hopeful that some of what you saw as an Eyesore will be affected by the recommendations. I can assure you that you are not alone in your perceptions, but I am more Hopeful that Bowie will stay nestled in its woods, parks and trails and find a way to savor some of the Memories that we once enjoyed more scenic.
Levitt homes are a disgusting reflection of Bowie's history. I'm fine with them aging. And I'm fine with you leaving. No need to live where you're unhappy, anywhere USA. Bowie or not.
Please do your research and drive around at night before you make an investment. There have been a number of car vandalism in Fairwood. Criminals follow money. Also, the New Carlton metro center has many homeless people roaming the area. Scary at night.
There’s a punk in Bowie Maryland going around snatching and robbing old ladies (my mom) dog if anybody know of a guy who all of a sudden has a small black dog please contact me this dog means the world to my family and me
