If I recall correctly, Rick Moranis went to the same middle school as Geddy and Alex. During last year’s book tour, Geddy liked to mention that this song did better on the Billboard charts than any Rush single ever did.
Battlescar with Rush and Max Webster was another collab from this era. Very different in style, it's a blistering bluesy rock epic with both bands playing together in the studio.
One of the best things about Rush is that they never took themselves too seriously. They were always able to have fun in so many different situations where they just had the innate ability to relax and laugh at themselves and each other. That's a unique quality to have as famous as they were.
Wow Beauty eh... this was a radio hit up here in Canada back i think it was 81 82?? i do remember this playing on radio. fun and yes they did Bob Doug's 12 days of Christmas. funny guys SCTV was hilarious. good to see you back,
Great reaction! This brings back so many memories. I grew up in Northern Vermont about an hour from the Canadian border and about 2 hours from Montreal. We used to get at least 3 Canadian TV stations on our cable TV including one in French so I was very familiar with Canadian culture. Plus I was a hockey player so we played lots of games in Quebec. Doug and Bob Mckenzie were big when I was in college in Maryland and totally got their parody but authentic in so many ways portrayal of Canadians. My senior year of college my roommate, who was from southern Indiana went back to my hometown with me for spring break. We made a beer run to Canada for some Brador and my roommate was blown away by the way that Canadians actually talked like Doug and Bob. I was like, of course they do as far as their vernacular goes. He couldn't stop talking about it for days. Great memory!
I turned 11 when my parents bought me this album for my birthday in 1981(Coming this Friday for the 55th time by the way...), I still have it. I always laugh so hard when listening to it... You got to watch their movie, "Strange Brew". Being Canadian is so much fun... So, like, take off to the Great White North Beauty Take off, it's a beauty way to go Jeez Take off, you hosers
Their 12 Days of Christmas was on the Dr. Dimento Christmas album. The McKenzie brothers were mainstays on the sketch comedy show "SCTV". You need to see their movie "Strange Brew".
Besides everything else, Geddy, Alex, and Neil (or Dirk, Lerxst, and Pratt) showed us that laughter, and having good fun, is so important in our lives. They never took themselves too serious. When other bands were fighting each other in heavy ego trips and whatever, these three guys just played awesome music, and had fun doing it.
Bob &Doug’s origin is pretty hilarious in itself. When SCTV was a new show, Canada had passed the Canadian Content law, which stipulated that a certain percentage of tv and radio programming had to be Canadian. This was essentially done to prevent American programming from completely dominating Canadian tv and radio programming. The government came to the show and informed them that they were going to be required to have more Canadian oriented content on the show as well. The show runners said something to the effect of: “Look we’re a skit comedy show… what do you want us to do sit around wearing tucs, drinking beer and saying eh?” Stupidly, the govt. said,”Whatever, as long as it’s Canadian, we don’t care.” ….and thus a classic sketch was born.
Welcome back! glad you had a good time in Mexico with your mom, Happy Birthday to her. This thing was hilarious. you gotta find Bubbles with Alex . its too funny . great reaction. keep em coming.
Rick Moranis, who went on to do Ghostbusters, and Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, and Steve Shutt, who is in the NHL Hall of Fame as winger with the Montreal Canadiens, were both classmates of Geddy Lee in the 70's. Talk about some fertile creative ground!
Okay, since you're going down the rabbit hole, check out Battle Scar by Max Webster. The three lads played alonside the band and Kim Mitchell on this track.
I've got the single, on vinyl. That picture is the single's cover, if memory serves (I've not seen it in a while!). We Rush fans bought anything and everything Rush-related, back in the day.
OH... Red. you really gotta hear Battle scar by Max Webster and Rush... Together both bands Off of Max's " Universal Juveniles." album. Max was another great Canadian band, very interesting sound they had. hard to pin but its got rock, some jazz country rock Canadian. very unique in my opinion. they did break the charts. Million Vacations is one if my favorite albums from them.
They all have and had a great sense of humor and humility. Alex took part in a few episoned of Trailer Park Boys. One of witch he tied up and kidnapped.
Hey RHN, Awesome !!! Now you have to check out the trailer park boys. Watch the episode where they kidnap Alex Lifesone. It's pretty hilarious. Cheers from Canada eh !!!! 🇨🇦 And also check out Max Webster and Rush playing Battlescar. It's from the Universal Juveniles album.
Hoser: a trash talk term for calling a hockey player or hockey team a loser. This one has been around for a while - before the Zamboni was created, the losing team had to stay behind and 'hose' down the ice following the game.
I loved this, and you are into Bob and Doug ❤❤. Did you see their movie, Strange Brew ???💯💯💯 #redheadedneighbor #bestreactor #redsarmy #beautifulfuncountrygirl #heartofgoldwithmetalinhersoul #bobanddougmckenzie
It's always fun to go back and re-visit these guys, especially when you 1st realize that "Hey! That's Dark Helmet!" or "Hey, that's Lewis from Ghostbusters!"
The album shot to number one from coast to coast to coast, and Geddy received nothing in royalties. Rick asked him to come down and cut a track, and Geddy said sure!
"Like... are we rollin...." head phones and on vinyl, a classic... "I'm in one ear.... and i'm in the otherrrr..." You know you are in good company when you can throw out, "ten bucks is ten bucks..." and you get a laugh back... - Take off eh!
Another joint venture you would LOVE was Rush and Max Webster doing Battlescar. Vocals with Kim Mitchell and Geddy, (who hits some of the highest notes ever recorded). Here's a link to an excellent cover from about 3 years ago. Its about the treatment aboriginals over the years. ua-cam.com/video/LwZ4T4HvvME/v-deo.htmlsi=e3pqoH-X7nVZcArd
Great reaction!!! ♥ ♥ ♥Psalm 16:11 “You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Rush, our music is serious, the rest, nah, lets laugh a lot 👍 got to listen rick mercer report 2 8 minutes funny skits 1 with alex,1 with neil ,red you won't recognize neil,so funny, laughing telling drummer jokes 🤣
Funny thing about Geddy's vocals though in their early days before they evolved some of his stuff was a little shrill on the top when they were a little more raw as the band... so I'm kind of with you that. It's not my favorite era of Rush just some of the earlier stuff just in general. I basically love everything from 2112 on the stuff prior some of it I like some of it I'm not a huge fan of

Yes, I remember reading that in his book.
Battlescar with Rush and Max Webster was another collab from this era. Very different in style, it's a blistering bluesy rock epic with both bands playing together in the studio.
Oh yes Max Webster with rush totally cool song. Gary McCracken and Neil peart on drums. Awesome.
💯

This was a thing back in the day. People here in TEXAS started calling each other hosers! 😆 “Take off!” 🍻 ☃️
Good day and take off....ehh. LOL LOVE these guys and your reactions to Rush!!!
This was a #1 hit off a #1 album in Canada. The song and album were #1 for the whole month of Dec. 1981 in Canada.
Wow!! SCTV and Rush. Add some bud and you just described my pre and early teens!😂
Wow Beauty eh... this was a radio hit up here in Canada back i think it was 81 82?? i do remember this playing on radio. fun and yes they did Bob Doug's 12 days of Christmas. funny guys SCTV was hilarious. good to see you back,

Alex was on an episode of the Trailer Park Boys. Funny stuff. Must do a reaction of that one.

Take off, it's a beauty way to go
Jeez
Take off, you hosers
The whole album is great, and the movie is even better.
love Strange Brew!
The boys all loved SCTV, the show that the McKenzie Brothers were on. Also, Geddy knew Rick Moranis, who plays Bob McKenzie, from school.
Thanks for doing this Geddy , oh hey no problem I mean 10 bucks is 10 bucks.😂
A Canadian classic! Bob & Doug's Christmas album - we had it on vinyl growing up.
I have the vinyl album, CD and cassette. Love it. That album was a big part of my youth.
Man o man it’s been a long time since I heard this, originally on the Dr. Demento Show. Love it! Thanks Red!
Takes me back to the early 80’s and listening to this album around the time of Moving pictures.
Their 12 Days of Christmas was on the Dr. Dimento Christmas album.
