Hey y'all. Hope you enjoy the new episode. As always we would love to read your comments. What are your thoughts on Monaco? Have you been to the Italian Riviera yourself? How often do you change your plans while cycle touring? Hugs Arev and Mathias
I lived for two months in Riomaggiore, Cinque Terre, and often took the train from La Spezia north to Genoa and stopped in the towns along the way. Genoa has amazing gelato (Pisacane among many), pesto at Pesto Bene, and things like ectopus sausages in popup markets at the pier. There is also a coffee shop called Espressino that is my favorite. The open air market in La Spezia is fabulous, and a litter wine shop named Gheme in Riomaggiore is a favorite for learning about the DOP wines there.
If I see a place I like for the night: I sit down and wait for about 30 minutes or an hour. Maybe I have dinner or read a book. If I then still feel save, I pitch my tent.
So amazing - I'm a Warmshowers host and Guillaume and Marit stayed with me in Port Angeles, WA! So nice to see them still touring and that you got to meet them last year!
While we believe the two are still on their way (probably Mexico) we met them before you hosted them. The Monaco episode was filmed end of 2021. However, editing those episodes is a lot of work and takes even more time. We did not manage to do it at the start of our journey and so we are roughly one year behind (and falling more behind all the time) 😅
@@AmazingWorldBikeTour That you two are video recording your adventures is epic enough. I can barely take digital photos and get them on my blog within a few months!!
Good day to you! I am a senior rider on HONDA motorcycle from Japan. I am enjoying camping ,touring and upload video. Your cycling video is so nice! Awesome! Full supported ! Have a nice day my friend!
Arev and Mathias jan!!! Huge greeting from Montreal!!! Սիրում եմ ձեզ!!! If ever in this end of world, i would be very lucky to meet you guys and bike few days with you!! Be safe !!😊 Gugo😘
European Counties are Amazing for Bike Travelers, especially in the Mediterranean which Weather wise its nice even on December. Of course great people, Hospitality, and gorgeously sceneries , Ohh Yes :) Food :) Guys ..Great work :)
Glad you reached 500 likes because I really enjoyed your video as I exercised on my recumbent exercise bike. I’m 77 years old and thinking about doing a UA-cam vid calling it Ogab, foe Old guy on a bike. I hope to prove that even old guys can pedal long distances!
Hey Paul 👋 thank you so much. Awesome that you keep yourself fit and in an adventurous and curious mindset! We met a few cyclists in their 60 and even 70, so we are optimistic that you can pull it off, too. Unfortunately there already is a channel named Old Guy on a Bike, but that won't stop you 😉
Great discription of Monaco. There was no place for a backpacker like me to put her luggage, no place to sit and when I wanted to have a drink (not that expensive for a Norwegian) at the pier, they looked at me like "oh no, she's coming this way. Look busy!" . I ended up at the hop-on bus just to have a place to stay until I could get the heeeck out of there😅. Horrible place of which I will never return.
That sounds very similar to our experience. In the meantime, we found a country much worse, though it will take us quite some time once we reach it on UA-cam 😅
Hello, you are gorgeous again. I am watching you with great pleasure. Thank you very much for taking the trouble for us too :) I want you to never end while watching your video. Take care of yourself. We love you. Love from Turkey/Bodrum :)
Yeah, well, it wasn't an easy choice. If you watch the other episodes you might understand that we wanted to get to the south quickly though. We've had plenty of rain and did not want to freeze the whole of December.
wonderful I will be following you round the coast next month, i will have to look up that warmshowers queen, superb. Now you have put the idea of the ferry in my head 😄
Arev/Mathias ... excellent eposide ... it is not very often you can cycle in three countries in a single day!! We look forward to seeing Sicily, as circumnavigating the island by bicycle is on our to-do list. Thanks so incredibly much for the unexpected shout-out. Cheers, Penny and Barry (Ottawa, Canada)
Sounds great! The next two episodes will be about our time in Sicily. One thing we learned: plan as much time as you possibly can. The island has so much to offer!
5:53 - ahah! I thought it was strange how you followed the coast down low into Italy. We followed the only road through and it climbed WAY up high to the Italian border and beyond. No beach-riding across that border.
Well, the EuroVelo is not really developed from the moment one crosses the border. It was early December, so we did not feel like going over the Alps :-)
@@AmazingWorldBikeTour agreed, it is fairly poorly developed there. But we did not go over the Alps, but the slightly higher coastal road Ave Aristide Brand that becomes Strade Statiale 1 in Italy. Traffic was OK there (in June) as most people take the Autostrade.
In this case we left them in the cheap room we had taken in Palermo. On other occasions we would either take them with us, or ask someone to watch over them, or one stays with the bike while the other shops and sometimes we just trust into humanity.
I live in Imperia and every morning i take a walk trough the harbor at 11.30 before work, it's always nice to see it on video, i hope the new cycling route section will be ready for the next year.
Well you missed a very important part of the world tour skipping Italy, basically the greatest part of Unesco places, but I can get that you're looking for a warmer climate. Many people underestimate the the winter in Italy, for example Milan is at the same latitude of Clermont Ferrant, that is at the center of France. And most part of Italy is mountains, so yeah, it would be challenging.
Well, for us it was fantastic in Germany and France. We were hosted through warmshowers in those two countries over 10 times. We had amazing hosts every single time and many unique experiences you don't get otherwise. In Italy 🇮🇹 it was not so easy to find available hosts, but we still had two very special hosting experience we are very glad to have! Definitely worth trying it!
Really enjoying your films, they're so thoughtfully made and capture the atmosphere of the places you have been to.. Good luck with your journey. Stay safe.
I just cycled 110kms in 2 days and am pooped so you guys are doing great. I often change routes but yes, do what is best for you and makes you happy and so you can complete the whole trip.

Similar approach here a lot of the time. In winter though with the very short days it does not always work out like that.

We would even argue that the Mediterranean coast is most enjoyable in winter 😉

Thank you so much, Mesut! Cok güzel!
in taking a ferry from Genua you missed the best part of your world tour: Genua - Villa San Giovanni
Yeah, well, it wasn't an easy choice. If you watch the other episodes you might understand that we wanted to get to the south quickly though. We've had plenty of rain and did not want to freeze the whole of December.
I felt the same when I was in Monaco for an afternoon.
We imagined that it wouldn't be the place for us, but were still impressed by the feeling. Fortunately Italy is so close ;-)
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching, TK!
Very good thanks
🤗
🤣the micro espresso!
Well, water is getting short, so better start saving early 😅
Nice bike touring video
Glad you liked it!
Well done! Thanks for sharing your adventure.

Great video mate, enjoyed it. Look trimmed mate
Glad you enjoyed it!
Didn't get the "Look trimmed". What do you mean? Video? Beard? Something else?

Thanks Jack and have a great trip 👍
As far as we know she is in Taiwan now.
But Siciliy is a great place 🙃
So glad i stumbled upon your channel! Have safe travels and thanks for sharing your journey!

Ein anderes super schönes Video!!!
Geht so einigermaßen 🤣
Great journey, lots of memories for rest of your life. 💪🏻
You bet! And time on the road feels like ages as so much new stuff is happening all the time!
I am already looking forward to your trip through Sicily. I can recommend the spring there. Gorgeous colors.
We can imagine! Spring might be the perfect time. We did it in December and still, it was not too shabby either 😃
Interesting, they use true bikes not electric bikes. We could take the distances cycled by them as a reference for our future trips.
The endurance builds up over time. Depending on the conditions, we ride between 15 and 150km in a day 😅

@@AmazingWorldBikeTour we rode through that rail tunnel near Ospedaletto to San Remo that you showed. It was AMAZING!
That looked like a fun trip! The open lock was hilarious!😂😂😂 and the pool noodles to keep the cars away!😂😂😂
Imagine how hilarious it would have been with a proper fence 🤣
Apparently it is pipe insulation, even lighter then pool noodles! 😀
That donut was really small, are you kidding me :D?
One biter would be on overstatement 🤣
When you went into the market , where did you park your bike securely?

Very cool! Italian Riviera was very enjoyable to cycle in December. For season an ongoing cycling road all the way would be great though 👍

Main arguments apart from warmer weather were that we will probably have an easy time to get to Italy from Germany later (after our tour).
Great videos! Very genuine and interesting, a perfect demonstration of what cycling touring is. Hugs from Portugal!
