    Just buy a 2022 YZ250X, add a Smart Carb for elevation and call it a day. The New KYB suspension is unreal, and the cable clutch is smooth and very responsive. Other than electric start you don't need to do much else to compete with a KTM.

  • @fernacticus
    @fernacticus 2 роки тому +5

    That seems very odd to me. When you fitted the stator plate I did notice that it was fully wound. That means that it is intended to charge the battery. I think some parts were missing from the kit. An electric start kit without the ability to charge the battery would be useless unless the battery was huge!

    • @SuperNomad14
      @SuperNomad14 2 роки тому +1

      They make the that kit for the YZ125 exactly like this - with no charging feature. They say a good battery can start the bike up to 200 times. I do not believe that. But at the end of the day these kits are sold for bikes that have a kick start anyways. The E-start hence is more like a back-up feature for tricky situations or such where the rider is very exhausted.

    I had a 1999 WR 400 that I put about 3000 kms on over the last 4 years on very rocky gnarly trails including several competitive enduros, all without electric start. It has a compression release on the camshaft that makes kick starting very easy. The only dead bikes we come across on the trail all seem to be orange in colour for some reason. I now have a 2009 and a 2010 WR 450, and I will say I do like the magic button. A YZ 250X with a Rekluse clutch is on my acquisition list this coming spring but I’ll take a pass on the E start kit. Too much added weight and complexity. I have a couple of challenging enduros on my bucket list and at 63 I’m finding lugging the big girls through the woods all the time can be a bit of a pain in the arse. Great video! Thanks for the effort! And remember. Orange is just a colour, BLUE is a state of mind. Cheers, from North Eastern Ontario Canada.

    A simple multi meter would tell volts at the battery when the bike is running to determine if it's charging, as well as measure the volts on the battery. A battery tender lead is a must have so that you don't have to remove the seat to charge. A maintainer will keep that battery 100% between rides. Lithium battery tender $40 US. :-)

    • @stevestuart-smith533
      @stevestuart-smith533 2 роки тому

      Two starters have failed, they don’t seem to like hard enduro when you get them hot. I suspect it’s something to do with clutch drag as it gets hotter. Also had the stator pick up small bits off the starter gears as they wear in and that courses ignition to miss fire. I covered the gears in grease to capture the fragments after it happened twice on long rides. I machined the sprag centre down to give it more clearance which helped. Waiting on a 3rd 2013 ktm starter now all which I have paid for because they don’t take any responsibility for anything. I want it to work so will keep persisting till I iron all the bugs out. Definitely not a KTM Killer. Fortunately for me I have a KTM to ride in between fixing my YZ.

      @@stevestuart-smith533 Sorry to hear that Steve. In a days trail riding I would only hit the starter button 6-10 times so nothing like hard enduro use. As far as I can tell my starter is just a generic chinese model. My 2018 kit only came with the mechanical bits, no wiring loom, relay, button, battery or battery box. Ash was spoilt with a full kit! I'm a sparky so the wiring was easy enough. From past experience I wanted a flush mount switch for the starter button so it couldn't be easily bumped while the engine is already running so brought cool switches from china, I made billet switch housings and they have been faultless!!
      Do you have a cooling fan? It's a must IMHO.
      I have a thermstat in the radiator and a manual overide switch on the bars for the fan so I can turn it on before I even get to the big muddy hill. I brought off ebay, oversized radiators NZ$150ish, a 100mm spal fan for about $100 it is the fan that KTM use, the t.stat also ebay $10, a chinese tap for the t.stat thread $25, weld a 6-10mm thick flat piece of aluminium to bottom tank of left radiator so can tap the thread for t.stat $40. I made mine big enough to also fit a temp sensor for the trailtech vapour gauge. Say goodbye to overheating. I don't like the in hose sensor things as it's just another potential leak. A constant breeze from a fan onto the starter must help along with lower engine temps. Good luck mate and Merry Christmas.

Got my snap back!! Best gains was the clutch plates being so close to the crank, steels pack was something like 476grams and the aluminium plates were 176grams. Sprocket also was noticable. @@njmxjunkie3128 .....Believe me the electric starter with the one way sprag made of steel and the steel starter gear add plenty of flywheel mass onto the 250X I think probably gearing is in need of changing.

    Does your ‘21 wr250 struggle to start in gear some times? I find mine needs neutral to start 90% of the time.

      It's a fueling issue not a cranking issue. You need your dealer to put some different settings in the ecu that you can't do yourself with the app
