Wud up Shawn...? My name is Drummer, I am so glad I came across your channel...Brother, I have a 11pc SS Blue/Olive set of these fine American craftsmanship drums....One of,or the greatest thing my PoPs had given, blessed me with...I have had them since about 89...my Dad found them in a second hand music store.I really didn't know at the time ,how valuable and rare they are ....especially to me.Anywho,I have restored them ,totally disassembled, cleaned every screw,lug,etc...reassembled, new heads and modified them from the original stands, original mounting brackets..to being able to be rack mounted...without drilling any new holes, using all the original holes, machined by Ludwig factory in Chicago,USA...But have always wanted to put drum hoops on the bottom of these awesome drums...Wandered if I did put hoops on the bottom, would it make them sound better, than they already do...So,instead of me writing a giant book..Shawn, would you kindly give me a call, anytime...so I can use your knowledge, expertise on what I should do,etc.. I am 53,live in BFE New Mexico(MST)..with my PoPs Currently setting them up in my private studio... Have had a Ludwig SS kit since high school. 4 concert toms, 18 floor, 24 kick. Sounds ridiculously amazing. Used it in every band I've played in for 50 years.
That tom definitely sounded better after converting it to double head. Concert toms are very limited range depending on the material it’s made of for sure. Great job in the conversion!
You do great work, man! It sounds awesome. My first kit was a chrome Ludwig with concert toms, though I'm pretty sure it had chrome wraps over wood shells. I'll have to dig up some old photos.
I use a Drum Dial to tune my drums, I found one on Craigslist for 15 bucks so I just went ahead and bought it. when I used it on my kit and got everything completely uniformed in tune man in made a huge difference, I have a pretty good ear for tuning but I thought even though my drum sounded good that they would have been close but a lot of the lugs were not even in the same range I found out with the drum dial. So my rack tom is set tuned to 74/74 top and bottom but when I first used it I had lugs that were like 68,68,70 but it still sounded pretty good but once they were all 74 it was 👌.
I'm a firm believer in do what works for YOU! If a dial, bot, whatever gets you the sound you are after go for it! My preference is by ear but that's just me.
wow Shawn! You did a beautiful job. Quite the craftsman. Really enjoy your video's. Nice work as always. Keep those vids coming. What a great hobby, you're living my dream.
Thanks man, we are! The summer just kinda got away from me. More videos to come as we head into winter and I have more free time! Hope you and yours are well also!

Yeah, they all seem to have little scratches. Once polished out can't really see 'em! Great video as always! Thanks!
I do have a converted 10x14 concert tom. Sounds great!!

so is there already a bearing edge cut on the bottom of the concert tom?
Yes they are a rolled and formed flange/edge. Impossible to do otherwise. Thanks for watching!
do you have an orphan ludwig floor tom for a project i am doing?
I don't have any for sale at the moment. If I come across one I'll let you know though!
