this was such a fun video. good commentary :D
This is the first video I've seen of yours, and that intro 😆
Earned you a sub my friend haha
feking legend.
This playthrough is legendary, absolute madness to even attempt this challenge, but I learned not to doubt the tenacity of a guy that spent a decade grinding one category in this game. Thoroughly enjoyed the video as well! I appreciate the shout-out to the void-out in Jacques, that was a really cool little moment.
Why did you make this mod 💀
That's a legit question, I mean it has to answer to a theoretical "what if" scenario rather than being meant to be actually played
@@alessandrobozzi7085 I think dayo also mentions this at the end of the video, but you can change the difficulty settings of the mod. This kind of playthrough wasn't necessarily what I had in mind when I made the mod, but I included the hardest locations because I knew some people would appreciate the challenge.
To answer your question, I just wanted to let people experience the game in a fresh way. A lot of people know the gem locations inside and out. I hoped this mod would make them search the levels for that one last gem like the first time they played the game, and maybe even discover interesting locations they've never been to before.
Yeah, my favourite part was watching Dayo trying to find the last couple of gems in some levels, sometimes they werent even that hard to get to, just well hidden. Amazing having to look for gems again in Spyro 1 after all these years.
@@Peteguy100 Have you done the mod for the other games? 3's level designs and minigames would be pretty fun with a randomizer and hard challenge.
@@xaytana I haven't, and for the time being I don't intend to. For Spyro 3 there is a randomizer that I believe changes egg locations, and there's also Spyro 3.5 which moves stuff around but also does a lot more. Maybe in a year or two I might get to making a randomizer for Spyro 2 if nobody else has done it by then.
The dev hid his shirt somewhere on that purple mountain.
These kind of dedicated people is what keeps old games like these and gaming communities in General alive. I really appreciate it a lot
"When I got to Tree Tops, things got easier."
This video has got to be the first time that's ever been said.
i love the use of the mario 64 file select music when you're explaining mechanics and quirks in the programming, i'm glad pannenkoek has just made that the universal theme song for these kinds of things
"thank you Pete" is the new "thank you dark souls".🤣
In my day, it was “thanks Obama”
Thanks obama
I know these take longer as they take editing and voice over - but damn, I really freaking love these recent video walkthroughs you've been doing. Your dry humor and calm demeanor really soothes.
"I am not a baby anymore. I am a fully grown man, now! Still wearing a diaper, though, to get through the shit the game throws at me."
This way of editing makes this so damn enjoyable to watch, it's hilarious, I want morreeee
It's terrifying how much pete knew about this game to make this and equally impressive that you were able to solve it.
I should be studying. But instead I'm watching a shirtless guy do a challenge run on a game I played over 20 years ago.
study WHILE you watch a shirtless guy do a challenge run on a game I played over 20 years ago
optimal 😎
@@dmas7749 I tried but there wasn't enough blood flowing to the brain to study.
Tree Tops was my bane as a kid. I didn't know that you could stack super dashes, so that one island in Tree Tops that I could barely see was my bane. I could collect just about everything else, and with some clever peeking I could just about see "Gnasty's Loot" through the Dragon Head in the last world. I wanted it more than anything, but I couldn't figure it out. One time my brother managed to do it, he figured it out. He never told me how he did it, but he also never bothered to finish playing the file.
It took me until Reignited Trilogy came out for me to actually get around to trying my hand at it again and I actually got to see Gnasty's Loot. It was indeed glorious and felt like I actually earned it. Maybe one day I'll get around to playing the other two Spyro games on there. I probably should, but since I never had them growing up, I don't have that kindred spirits with those games the way I do the original. I dabbled with the second a bit and being told I could swim felt unnatural.
Spyro 3 was a good game from my experience, I would argue overall even more fun when I played it as a kid in comparison to Spyro 1 cause of the better bosses and the Minigames;
but as an Adult now I would argue Spyro was the better game; legendary music (although Spyro 3 music was good too), more complex levels and platforming, no annoying Minigames and additional characters/story;
not at least the whole glitchpicnic stuff, which makes speeedruns/mods interesting on this game.
So basically I like Spyro 1 more today exactly for the sane reason I liked Spyro 3 more as a child😂
Dude same! I didn’t complete some of the harder moments in Spyro as a kid so when Reignited came out and I could finally get things I never got as a kid was such a great feeling. One in particular is the MetalHead boss in Beastmakers. I never got 100% on that one cuz I could never figure out how to get the missing gems. When I discovered the secret hidden areas there a few yrs ago as a nearly 30 yr old, I was so happy lol. It healed my inner child lol.
On of my earliest videogames memories, I loved Spyro and finally had beaten it 120% when I was like 11 while I started playing with 7 years😂
Happy to see there is so much love for this game still with the whole mod/Speedrun community...
23:19 "hes losing his mind" *proceeds to do surfer dance*
Great editing on this vid. Loved watching this progress
Wow, UA-cam’s algorithm working it’s wonders again, every so often it shoots out a gem (pun intended) new subscriber here my man! Great content 🤙🏻
SAME! most of the time it pisses me off, but this time, a win
First time seeing your channel but I’m genuinely astounded at everything. The amount of work it took to do this, the editing, your personality, all of it is just fantastic man!! Subscribed and hyped to see more!
I have a real appreciation for videos that feel like they were edited by an insane person
I appreciate how you describe all the tricks and glitches you use as someone new to all the information about this game
Oh no I smoked that shit now I am trapped in 23:07 break time forever man
*Dayo beats main category records*

Dayo: "hold my beer"
Great video. Awesome editing and commentary. Insanely cool mod. I loved how you explained all of the glitches. I’m a long time Spyro 1 fan who is just recently getting into the speedrun community and this video was perfect youre goated
He's only gone and done it!
Neat mod. by Pete, and to Allie for knocking the edit out of the park!
I love me a good challenge run. I hope this video blows up in the algorithm Dayo, because this might be your most well-edited video to date.
:]
the king of all challenges fr 🔥🔥🔥
Great work on the video!
@@DrShemp thx Shemp!! 😄✨
"I'm just a shirtless man with a dream"
You just perfectly summed yourself up.
Wahoooo amazing absolutely amazing!!! This is the best and I love how you articulated all your tricks and techniques throughout this game to finish Pete’s challenge!
Omg he said " I just won't to say " and didn't go on to play a add. What a legend !
This was a really cool video and the edit was so enjoyably smooth to watch. It's so nice to watch you enjoying the game this much, even after you've played it for such a long time dude
Saw LumiLaura on Ludwig's Fast50 event and then got recommended your most recent WR and recognized your name from watching a couple of your vids a few years ago and thought "Oh yeah, that dude's the goat." This time, I'm finally hitting that sub button after spending basically a whole week watching your content and tuning into the livestreams.
I really appreciate the effort you put into making these crazy challenge videos full fledged walkthroughs as well. Some of this tech I have never even heard of, let alone thinking most of the techniques were TAS only! Very entertaining and I look forward to more of these!
Beautiful video ! That challenge was REALLY crazy to watch 🔥💪🏻
We out here for this content drop… harder than this challenge, not gonna lie.
imagine combining this with the spyro starts super heavy mod and every gem he gets lighter.
Rest assured the ape escape music earned you a sub (Plus the phenomenal video, you have great energy and I can't wait to binge your other stuff!)
I've just discovered your channel with this video.
I love that you credit your stream viewers idea by showing their messages and explaining how they help you 🤘 Love the energy, the vibe and the hype, and love the authenticity 🤜🤛
Aaaand as a bonus the level of skills is on point, even tho you seem to surprise yourself 😂 Subbed from Québec ✌️
Oh and, congrats on that unbelievable achievement 🤘🔥
Edit:
I know what it is, you give a Michael VSauce mixed with Moonwind from Disney's Soul© vibe 😅
Dayoman, you’re absolutely incredible inspiring all of us thanks again :)
Incredible run and so fun to watch! Love the editing, had some good laughs!
I swear Dayo has to be one of the most aggressively likeable and charming people I’ve ever seen. I cannot watch a single video or clip of him without smiling.
Dude, so stoked to have found your page! Really loved watching this challenge!
Solid work, wow, thank you. Well edited, nice commentary as always
Watching you do this over multiple days was such a joy. Every victory had me cheering! 🎉
Peteguy should have put more chests and gems underground in the secret level to make the difficulty of the secret level as hard as the others, even inside the towers where it was possible to pass from underneath.
For the rest, Peteguy did a sublime job and you did a sublime execution and great tenacity.
"Unable to be touched from below."
Phrasing.
Amazing job! Huge congrats!
Awesome video! Massive kudos to you for the dedication here!
This is ridiculous, you could have a whole damn checklist of required proxies purely for this mod. Good shit.
Incredible video, Dayo! I love that you take the time to concisely explain the in-game mechanics behind some of the methods you used to reach places. Very well done!
This was amazing. What an accomplishment. I enjoyed this entire adventure and look forward to more in the future.
I'm so glad that Pete was there to help out on occasion.
Amazing video with some sick editing, love to see it!
Cungrats on your first 100k video ever
I appreciate your dedication and commitment. Kudos to you! You earned a sub 😊
Ayy Dayo I wrote this comment without finishing the video... I just finished watching the video. Holy crap you didn't pull your teeth out and made it to the end lmao. Awesome job.
P.s. shirtless is the way to go my man 😂
Good choice of music! The hype-fusion music works great for your format.
How funny would it have been if he just left Tree Tops as-is from the original game lmao.
Spyro was the very first game I got to play as a kid. This video brought me back to that time, blindly exploring each level and being excited or relieved when I finally found everything. Not only that, but this run goes places in the game I've actually never seen before. Shoutout to PeteGuy for setting this up. Modding is a lot of work. Great video, and an awesome way to find your channel.
As someone who has played the original PS1 disc I got for my fifth birthday more times than I can count, this fascinates me. For one thing, "voiding out" isn't a thing in the original, which kinda sucks, because I got softlocked several times as a kid. But for another, the idea of exploring the areas that aren't actually part of the game speaks to my childhood self on such a fundamental level. I don't think I could ever actually do this, but watching it brings me a kind of joy that I just can't describe. Like, I feel like a kid again, when I didn't know these levels back-to-front, when the game was still a mysterious world to explore and discover things about. Thank you for this, sirs, player and creator both. :)
Thanks for watching. All of the techniques that i show in this video are possible on the original ps1 disc, invluding void outs. (Really a more accurate term would be "flop timer respawn")
@@Dayoman But…there were several times, as a kid, where I softlocked by flopping and wasn't reset, Spyro was just left floating in his flop animation until I reset the game (and I would spent several minutes waiting). Are there certain places where that just can't happen? It was typically when I flopped right above a liquid hazard, does that not void out?
@@Wandergirl108If we entertain the thought that you're not just experiencing a false memory (which I at least have plenty of regarding this game), then there is one way I can think of that could cause what you described. You'd have to be in the zombie state, and by far the most likely way for that to happen is to touch a dragon while in the death animation, i.e. getting pushed into a dragon by an enemy attack while sparxless.
In the zombie state if you fall on water you will indeed get endlessly stuck in the flop animation. I don't think you're technically in the flop state, because you can still void out in other ways while zombied, but it looks the same.
@@IikkaFrestadius That HAS also happened to me - I discovered that glitch by accident when one of those little guys in the Dream Weavers homeworld kicked me onto Lateef, and I love doing it every time I get there now (I didn't know there was a technical term for it, I always called it "ghost mode glitch"); and yes, one time, when I was done doing everything I could do while ghost moded (or zombied, or whatever), I tried jumping into a liquid hazard so I could properly die and continue the game, and that did indeed softlock me.
I do also have false memories of this game, I can confirm that too - for instance, my childhood memories say that the bottom of the secret area in Dark Hollow is about two dozen complicated platforms all placed in a vast stretch of liquid hazard, which of course it is not.
However, there is one instance I very clearly remember because of how upsetting it was, and you can tell me if this is possible. I was in Wizard Peaks, trying to get that one egg thief that runs around a pond; rather than chase him, I glided across the pond and flamed him. I didn't QUITE make the glide, and flopped off the edge of the standable space, right above the water, and my game softlocked there. I was upset because I hadn't saved in a while, and think I went to get my parents for help, and we all just stared at Spyro falling forever, the game never voided out. I DO think I got the egg around the same moment I flopped, mind you; could that have caused the softlock?
I don't know, I'm thinking of getting the game out and trying one of the intentional void-outs shown in this video to see if it works.
@@Wandergirl108 I haven't heard that egg thieves could cause a softlock like that, I even hopped into the game and tried to get it myself for a while. It is possible to get zombied in Wizard Peak though, on the dragon on top of the supercharge ramp as well as the dragon next to the exit level vortex, so it's possible you were already zombied when you went for the egg thief.
I grew up with this trilogy as a literal toddler onward and seeing folks still find new ways to appreciate it is so nice
This was incredible to watch! I don't know how I missed it for a month, but oh well, better late than never.
Though most of the tricks are ridiculous TAS level things, as you said, I do like the one dragon in Twilight Harbor which you have to reach by looping across the supercharge ramp. I can almost see reaching that one pipe as intentional level design if the devs had thought of it, and there was an appropriate reward they could put there for the few people who could figure out how to reach it. An easter egg, perhaps.
Cheers, Dayoman! I admire your dedication to Spyro.
Spyro 2 is by far one of my favorite games of all time, and I'd love to see this mod done for that game too. Great job man, you killed it!
Loved being a part of these streams, one of the most fun events we've had on this channel
Loved this video dude. This video could have easily been 1.5h, but you summarised it perfectly. Well done on the achievement too!
I've never heard of you before but this challenge and your presentation of it was incredible! I look forward to sinking more time into your content. :)
As always, a god damn mad man (and maybe my favorite edit so far)
36:00 Just seeing the level from this different of an angle is magic to me. Like there was a Spyro 1 level I've never played before. I haven't heard about Spyro 3.5, but I've got to check it out now, because clearly there's a hunger in my heart for more of the original trilogy.
The editing of this shirtless guy flipping around in the Spyro environments is so sublime
this shit is nuts, speedrunners and challenge streamers are like modern day jesters
Wow what a video, amazing!!!
Great editing and you also got the perfect voice the give the commentary!
Love these challenge runs man. This was a lot of fun to watch. Great vid homie!
Dayo! These videos are amazing and so much fun to watch. Keep doing the great work you do man.
Please consider changing the transition effects as they were a little hard on the eyes.
0:48 aaannd now im hooked.
yo shoutout to the breaktime break, honestly I needed to stretch my legs real quick, thank you for the reminder.
You’re an absolute legend for doing this completely legit.
Gives me classic Simplelflips vibes. Shoutouts to you.
Your soothing voice in this and every vid. Could fall asleep to it. ❤
holyshit dayo hadn't been around your channel for a while and I come back to this type of edits?? so good! need to catchup on all your challenge runs! keep being awesome dude, fucking love you.
Thanks for including the music you used. The song at 16:00 would have driven me insane trying to remember the name of it.
FYI it's Unreal Tournament 99 Soundtrack - Foregone Destruction
An amazing accomplishment and well edited video!
You and your passion have long since earned my respect. But here's another one for the record...
This was a really cool run featuring a lot of niece interactions which represents game knowledge. And I think that is exactly how content should expand it's lifespan.
Your videoes always inspires a lingering curiosity for what gameplay could become if developers invested time into re-discovering genres.
You absolutely insane madlad. Well done. I am in awe of the sheer stubborn willpower that it took you to pull this off.
First video I’ve seen from yourself, popped up in recommended, 1 minute in and I can tell I’m gonna like this, liked and subbed!!
well done brother, proud of you, tree tops were truly cursed. Hope there will be more mods for spyro 2 and 3
Amazing videoo!! Keep going!
calling it now my man. lotta subs to come. if i like it then ik everyone else will
What a watch! Great work, both of you!
"Death Abuse" is such a crazy term lmao
As someone who's never watched or played this game, this video was well explained and easy to follow. Nice vid, and nice run!
When UA-cam recommended me this video, I didn't know what to expect, but I don't regret clicking on it one bit! Lots of fun tech and glitches, and some great music too, the moment I heard El Dorado from Ace Combat 2, I knew I'd found a gem worth a sub!
dayoman (algorithm friendly)
This was fun to watch. Congrats Dayoman!
You had more patience for this than the total amount of patience I will ever have my entire life.
Absolutely legendarily insane mind blowing odyssey. Just when I think you can’t blow my mind breaking the human limits of playing my all time favourite childhood game, you pull this madness. Mad love Dayo, stay batshit brother
The editing done on this video is insane! What a banger!
My Sweet! Excellent video and challenge! You will always be my most favorite! ❤️
23:06 nice relaxing lyrics on top of (the greatest) R4 ost
Who ever would have thought that all those years in the 80's and 90's nerding out in front of a 80 pound 15 inch tv would lead to creating videos that other people would enjoy.
God tier video. I was waiting for this!
Also, letter H for Hayoman and for Hard 120% mod conquered 💪
Loved all the streams of it. Hope to see another challenging runs like Spyro 3.5.
Really cool commentary too!
GG Dayo!
Dude the editing on this is sick
dayo never disappoints
edit: lmao holy shit break time
Awesome video, and this Spyro the Dragon Mod is so cool.
The reveal to be shirtless was hilarious. Then I saw you were still shirtless during the playthrough. As someone who has never seen you before this video, I'm so ready for whatever I just signed up for.
