It's so simple if you're screen is working finely you just have to buy touch glass digitizer from any site at so lowest price and then you can replace the glass from any local mobile repair shop

I cracked my screen with a bat on accident not knowing that this was hidden beneath the blanket since I was testing something very stupid. It has A LOT of cracks, I mean a lot.
I shattered my screen yesterday and my mom paid 200 dollars to get it fixed and today we picked it up and the screen was perfect and so nice and looked brand new. 2 hours later (right now) I dropped my phone in the road and the screen shattered. Again. My mom said she would NEVER fix my screen again bevcause it was really expensive.
Wow Matt I really Appreciate what you just showed everyone. Unfortunately I cracked the screen on my stylus phone and I plan on getting a new screen ASAP.
Mr Perks. Don't use metal spudgers to work on the battery or connectors. You run the risk of shorting the battery and damaging it. Also the capacitors will hold a small charge after the battery is disconnected. The metal on your tools can complete parts of the circuit, sending unwanted power where it could potentially do damage. Always use non conductive tools when repairing electronics when you need to touch connectors or other circuitry.
Also replacement screen / glass / digitiser modules can be bought on ebay for around £22 (for the Sony) and are easy to install. I had to do this for my brother in law a few weeks ago. The replacement glass was going to cost £17. The extra £5 and less work option of the complete unit was a no-brainer. As to the issue of 'cheap copy', the build quality of the replacement unit was just the same as the Sony original. Also the digitiser was the same model and manufacturer as the Sony original. I did enjoy the video however. Please keep up the great work and high production values.
Thanks for the tip. Regarding the screen though, it really does matter that it's original. I later repaired a Z3 compact and bought a replacement screen + digitizer on ebay for roughly £20 and, while it worked ok, the screen area was smaller and the colours were very drab and dull in comparison to the original (brightness was fine though). I'd personally leave the cheap replacement screens well alone, but the official ones are much more expensive.
While you are correct that most modern batteries have a protection circuit that helps keep the battery itself from suffering short damage (usually) the major concern with using metal tools is that you can make contact with the battery connectors and other connectors on the Logic board, which can cause permanent damage.
I'm just advising folk to avoid using metal tools around circuitry. A £500 phone is an expensive risk to take, when if you use a plastic tool, you remove almost all of the potential for damage. Feel free to use whatever tools you want. As to the original screen over the cheaper replacements. The title of the video is fixing a phone on a budget. I was just making suggestions based on my experience with budget replacement parts. I found the replacement part to be of good quality, no difference in screen size or colour quality. Perhaps I got lucky with my purchase or you were unlucky. I suppose it's a mileage may vary situation. As far as a budget repair goes, the cheap all in one module was a relatively easy fix and saved an expensive phone from the rubbish bin.
Thanks for all the likes guys! Regarding the screen , it really does matter that it's original. you know how you can buy film scratch protectors..... the leather case for my phone came with one which was HARD plastic, its stayed on well and i swear i would have broken my screen many times over without it (landing on tiles/cement face down)
DIY Perks I bought a non genuine 4K screen for £40 for my Z5P and i haven't noticed a difference between OEM and Non-OEM.. There is no dull spots and the screen performs just as well as it did before with the original. I guess that even some knockoffs are good but it is very hit and miss.
Well they say you get what you pay for and while Sony phones are not cheap they are some of the best. They are water resistant and have good cameras. The Xperia Z5 Premium was the first smartphone to have a 4K display. I have an Xperia X and the 1080p display already looks really good. Never mind Samsung, I don't like AMOLED screens. They are defective from the moment they are manufactured and that is because they burn in and that is why I will never want an AMOLED screen or super AMOLED. No Xperia I ever had has an AMOLED display and that is how I like it. I have one non Sony phone with an IPS display and that was left on for a whole 24 hours with the screen on just sitting there. It did not burn in. Now if you had done that to an expensive new Samsung phone it would very likely get an image *permanently* burned in. I think I would almost cry if I paid all that money to see it damaged so soon. Either that or I would be a very grumpy person for a while.

Shorting out a lithium phone battery, especially one that is fully charged is a really bad idea. There is a scary amount of potential energy bottled up in one of those that can easily give you a nasty shock, burst into flames or even explode. Remember the battery in the Galaxy Note 9? All lithium batteries have the potential to do that if mishandled.
I use xiaomi phone's battery for small electronic projects and testing circuits on breadboard, I charge it using solar panal and many times have by mistake shorted it or put a really heavy motor. Seems like it has some sort of cut off/short circuit protection mechanism. It is still alive.
Very few people post hacks that do not work. Kudos to Matt for trying it on camera and for when it failed not editing that out or publishing the video at all.
I've worked at a phone repair store and be very careful to apply to much heat to the back of the phone, heating up the phone too much can cause in some cases the battery to explode. Keep your finger under the heat and if it feels to hot stop the heat and leave it for about 30 seconds. Be careful in general with this.

Thank you Matthew. You didn't use a computerized voice and four images off he Internet to sucker us in. You showed your failure, proving you're just like us: human. I really enjoy these "real" videos with 'real' people. 😀👍
It's not really his failure. Trying to separate the glass from the LCD is EXTREMELY hard. At my job we just get a whole replacement lcd with glass together it's so much better faster and it's actually not hard to keep the repair cost low
Here’s a tip guys never use a metallic tool to disconnect connectors from the motherboard, this can quite possible short out that part of the board if not the whole board. Glass only repair is very tedious and quite frankly not worth it unless it’s something you have the tools for already, it’s very easy to damage the lcd panel. I always get the screen assembly and swap it out saves time and may cost a bit more but definitely worth having a solid screen that’s been quality tested.
@@Will-sv9mf not sure if you mean off as in turning the device off or disconnecting the power source. In the first case, that’s false, hitting the power button doesn’t change the fact that current is still plugged into the board. If you mean disconnecting the battery then possible yes, but there’s still a chance that a capacitor still has pent up energy and therefore a chance of shorting (pretty slim if you do the repair careful, but the risk is there). In any official repair training, a spudger is always the tool recommended to use when disconnecting directly from the motherboard. Obviously because it doesn’t conduce electricity.
@@h0udinl No, he is not correct. Capacitors won't store charge forever, if you leave phone alone without battery for few hours there will be 0 chances of shorts.
OMG!!! You ordered that from ebay and at arrived the next day???? Where do you live?? Gosh I live in australia and it takes 1 week to 1 MONTH for something to arrive! :(
In UK we get next day delivery if available from ebay, amazon and many other online retailers. You can oredr from Next until midnight and it will arrive the next morning. The UK is very small compared so maybe that helps.
I remember when I used to be able to see little things like that without specs... ;-) Nice video, glad you got grandpa's phone repaired for him :-) I've never had any luck at all removing those broken screens either, well done :-)

I lived and worked in Shenzhen, China. There are small 2 square meters shops literally on the street where guys cut phone screens and repair glass. They use proper tools and vacuum chamber. You literally come and wait in cue and watch how your phone is fixed. They are so experienced and skilled, need around 15 min to fix a phone like new for 20-30usd including touchscreen glass. Cheers! S
In this day and age with the limited resources this planet has and the horrendous labour conditions used to extract rare earth minerals, all phones should be easily fixable, using all these glues and adhesives to make these phones very difficult to repair is ridiculous!
I know what you mean. It should really be modular. Each component should be easily separated and replaced as and when. Phones were easier to repair. Now, most of them are sealed units. The drive to sell the next best phone is what these manufactures count on.
Sony phones are like that in particular because of the water resistance. The adhesives help preventing water from enter and damage the components. Being a sealed unit really helps with that. While I agree with you I don't see the point in the something like the fairphone since many of this phones are easy to repair without being modular and the average consumer don't want to have the trouble to DIY anything.
I did find this video very very interesting. Because the phone that you fixed is the same with my smashed up phone that i can no longer use cause the screen doesnt touch. Well, this video is helpful even if i havent applied what i learned from it.
I just broke mine today, it still works but the screen is crack. Luckily my parents are chill. But I honestly feel sad and guilty, since this is a pretty expensive phone.
When replacing your glass, you should always apply a strip of tape to the glass before disassembling your phone. Tape will hold all broken shards of glass very well. Not any tape, box tape should do the trick. 😉
Remember that this process is extremely difficult and doesn't work on most devices. It's generally better to replace the entire screen despite it costing a bit more. Also, on iPhones, you need to take off the screen first and not the back. The back is basically impossible to remove.
I was recording my bowling action with my camera set in my bed.I threw the cricket ball at full pace and it hit my phone. The glass shattered. The worst thing is my phone didn't even age a month after purchasing.Press F to pay respects.
Hey Matt! great vid, but i have a cool tip for you - if you want to precisely control the temperature of your phone while reparing it use the heated bed on a 3D printer :) i fixed 3 phones and two e-ink kindles without using a heat gun or a hair dryer. Just set the bed to 70 degrees, enough to soften the adhesive, but won't damage your battery (too much :P i usually replace the battery aswell). Take care buddy, really enjoying your work :)
can definitely second that, destroyed my screen once by dropping against the edge of my coffee table. replaced the screen, put a tempered glass protector on it, then stupidly dropped it the same way again, dented the protector a little but it survived.
Like it that you showed the fail and then presented the solution. Authentically presented beautifully. I think you should go on to do other things with broadcasting hosting maybe get a few travel trips in-ha for pbs fare or presenting - becaue you got whatever *it*is. Yeah, ya got *IT Factor*! Nah ya can't teach *IT Factor*.
Great video! However, if your touch screen didn't work from the start, doing a glass only repair wouldn't have solved that. You would've been stuck getting a new lcd assembly anyways because the digitizer is part of that lcd. Also, normally it's much more worth it to just purchase an LCD assembly and install it instead of saving a few bucks and attempting a glass only. The results from a DIY glass only will look nothing like a stock LCD assembly would, and replacing an LCD assembly is SO much quicker than doing a glass only repair.
You could turn off your phone with emergency shout down. You just need to hold down power/lock button for longer time, approximately 10 second's. Dont use OTG cable next time 😄
My iphone 7 fell on the ground & I immediately checked the screen for damage.I thought scratched but it turned out to be a really long pubic hair.Lucky this time!
Okaaaay ! I could not understand anything because .. basically i was just adoring the way he was talking ... :P too charming and such honest eyes . Guilty!
It quite clearly states in the title of the video, and the description, that this video is an attempt. Nowhere does it say tutorial. 🤷♂️ The world still owes you nothing 🤣
Was a very heroic attempt at replacing the digitizer... to be honest that was the best and also the worst era for Xperia devices... It was the best designs at the time, with great features, but also the worst when it came to durability. I had the Xperia Acro S before and it is still on working conditions in the hands of my 9 y/o kid... then I had the Xperia Z1c and Z3c and both had shattered displays with the digitizer broken... Now I currently have the XZ which is built like a tank and has, so far, survived to several drops without protection. Great old video
ADM .PL that glue between glass and lcd is used to improve picture quality. Not much to do with 'designed not to be repairable'. But i could say that about rest of the phone.
It is repairable, this was just a cheap way of doing it and he took the screen out incorrectly. Taking the glass off the LCD takes 1 minute at most providing you have the CORRECT EQUIPMENT.
ZGreenZ - sorry a curved screen is specifically installed to cause your phone to break more often and the water seal and screen are designed so its hard to open. The curved screen servers nonother purpose abd gets in the way if functionality. Sure its designed to not be repaired
Ye this is old as heck video, but as a person who works with phone repairs it was kinda cute to see. One of the reasons for them to glue it like that is, in one way to to stop people from switching either the LCD or the glass. Mostly because ppl would still try to claim warranty if they succeeded. Which is void when opening up your device yourself. It is also for productions sake as failrate for phone LCD are generally high. Especially with curved AMOLED that many phones use today. Also a tip for heating things up. as most of phone electronics can handle 80C you can put it in your stove. The adhesive wont however like it much and seperating layers becomes much easier. You should also use a bit of alcohol (isopropyl 99.9%) so eat away at the adhesive.

I always get the screen assembly and swap it out saves time and may cost a bit more but definitely worth having a solid screen that’s been quality tested.
not if its off
@@Will-sv9mf elaborate
@@Will-sv9mf not sure if you mean off as in turning the device off or disconnecting the power source. In the first case, that’s false, hitting the power button doesn’t change the fact that current is still plugged into the board. If you mean disconnecting the battery then possible yes, but there’s still a chance that a capacitor still has pent up energy and therefore a chance of shorting (pretty slim if you do the repair careful, but the risk is there). In any official repair training, a spudger is always the tool recommended to use when disconnecting directly from the motherboard. Obviously because it doesn’t conduce electricity.
@@jorgenunez5669 your 100% correct even if it’s powered off capacitors still hold charge

QuickPro Studios the UK like me....
Wow, they don't even have amazon in Oz :( just, ebay :(
The UK is tiny compared to Australia. First class post is next day if the item is posted before noon.
Yeah i guess so...
In UK we get next day delivery if available from ebay, amazon and many other online retailers. You can oredr from Next until midnight and it will arrive the next morning. The UK is very small compared so maybe that helps.
I remember when I used to be able to see little things like that without specs... ;-)
Nice video, glad you got grandpa's phone repaired for him :-) I've never had any luck at all removing those broken screens either, well done :-)
He is much more intelligent than many if the UA-cam so called reviewers. I don't want to call out their names, but he is far more capable of explaining things than those self proclaimed pro reviewers.
Cheers! In this day and age with the limited resources this planet has and the horrendous labour conditions used to extract rare earth minerals, all phones should be easily fixable, using all these glues and adhesives to make these phones very difficult to repair is ridiculous!
Nick MG i agree with you.. but without glue, if the phone fall, it will open apart itself, and it shouldn't do that..
I know what you mean. It should really be modular. Each component should be easily separated and replaced as and when. Phones were easier to repair. Now, most of them are sealed units. The drive to sell the next best phone is what these manufactures count on.
Something like the Fairphone is better.
Just buy a brick, or don't drop your phone.
Easy solutions :D
Sony phones are like that in particular because of the water resistance. The adhesives help preventing water from enter and damage the components. Being a sealed unit really helps with that. While I agree with you I don't see the point in the something like the fairphone since many of this phones are easy to repair without being modular and the average consumer don't want to have the trouble to DIY anything.
I did find this video very very interesting. Because the phone that you fixed is the same with my smashed up phone that i can no longer use cause the screen doesnt touch. Well, this video is helpful even if i havent applied what i learned from it.
What a lovely, fantastic video. 10/10 I couldn't recommend it enough to anyone tech interested.
i’m so sad! i just got a new phone and i dropped it like a month after i got it! ughh i’m gonna be in so much trouble when my parents find out 😭

Eric Ding cool thanks, will do!
I've done 2 repairs, one worked and the other (like you) I ended up damaging the screen with too much heat. It's definitely a learning experience!
Get a heating pad that’s the best to use to remove a broken screen
This video shattered my hopes... Thanks
Me too.. i was hoping for a cheap solution. Guess I'll have to change my phone...AGAIN.
The person whose job it is to put the dab of heat resistant glue on the screen is doing the devil's work.

Sony users know that if your phone fall from your office table will be alright but if it falls from 5 cm it will not have screen anymore
The sad sad truth
When replacing your glass, you should always apply a strip of tape to the glass before disassembling your phone. Tape will hold all broken shards of glass very well. Not any tape, box tape should do the trick. 😉
yep true
Just saying, maybe this guy can help fix my shattered phone screen lmao. Who else watching with a cracked screen on an old phone?
Remember that this process is extremely difficult and doesn't work on most devices. It's generally better to replace the entire screen despite it costing a bit more. Also, on iPhones, you need to take off the screen first and not the back. The back is basically impossible to remove.
It's possible with oca machine

Buy a tampered glass screen protector for it aswell, costs like 1.5€ from china.
I was thinking exactly the same! Saved my phone several times and a replacement is £6 next day from Amazon.
Yep, the tempered glass screen protectors are great.
And for my inconvenience I had an spelling error, meant tempered glass screen protector*
can definitely second that, destroyed my screen once by dropping against the edge of my coffee table. replaced the screen, put a tempered glass protector on it, then stupidly dropped it the same way again, dented the protector a little but it survived.

"Fixing the phone on the cheap" proceeds to crack the LCD, and does exactly what every other person would do, replacing the screen.
This ends up varying from phone to phone as my Samsung's digitizer is in the glass, but my HTC's is in the LCD itself
yall nerds i can understand then do you speak dumb so i can understand?
The digitizer is in the front glass on Sony phones. On most Samsung and Apple phones, the digitizer is bonded to the LCD/AMOLED.
I agree, however LCD with Digitizer for Samsung 7Edge still cost close to $300.
I was taking a shower last time watching my phone then my phone fall but I found this how to fix a smashed phone

You could turn off your phone with emergency shout down. You just need to hold down power/lock button for longer time, approximately 10 second's. Dont use OTG cable next time 😄

I just shattered my screen but this is too complicated for me
designed NOT to be repairable
If designed to not be repairable, all the internals would not easily clip together.
I can’t believe all of the shattered phones I see. Why can’t it be made with a durable soft plastic?
+Geena Lyon I wonder the same thing myself!
Because plastic can scratch easily.
Because u will not change ur phone with a New one if it dosent break
I know right...totally unexceptable with today's technology. The first start up to make a comparable durable phone has my business for life!

who else watching in a completely unshattered screen?
😆
I have a had a smart phone for over 20 years and have never broken a screen, it's an expensive and useful piece of kit, so look after it
Ye this is old as heck video, but as a person who works with phone repairs it was kinda cute to see.
