Class A amplifiers can add harmonic distortion to the sound you hear through speakers.
Class A amplifiers operate in a linear mode, where the output transistors are always conducting, resulting in a more consistent and predictable harmonic distortion pattern. This distortion is typically:
1.⁠ ⁠Even-order dominant: Class A amplifiers tend to produce more even-order harmonics (2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.) than odd-order harmonics (3rd, 5th, 7th, etc.).
2.⁠ ⁠Low-order dominant: The 2nd and 3rd harmonics are typically the most prominent, with higher-order harmonics decreasing in amplitude.
3.⁠ ⁠Symmetrical: The harmonic distortion is symmetrical, meaning that the positive and negative half-cycles of the waveform are affected equally.
The resulting harmonic distortion can add a warm, rich, and smooth quality to the sound, often described as:

•⁠ ⁠Smooth and velvety
•⁠ ⁠Rich and full-bodied
Class A tube amplifiers and Class A solid-state amplifiers differ significantly in their harmonic distortion characteristics, despite both being Class A designs.
Class A Tube Amplifiers:

•⁠ ⁠Tend to produce:

I have this amp and it's bright, clean and accurate just as described above. If you want warmth you can pair it with warm speakers, a warm cartridge and a tube phono preamp, and still get benefit from the clarity and detail that it offers.
