I was 7 when this happened....saw the tornado and didn't even understand wtf I was looking at. Was like a mile or so away from it...it's crazy how it took years to clean up and rebuild downtown...I moved to Michigan in 04 and remember how some parts were still blocked off and damaged.
@@bigrooster6893what do you mean it wasn’t downtown? It went straight through downtown. Tore up several skyscrapers including Bank One Tower and the Cash America Building. The video is the beginning of the tornado as it was strengthening and hadn’t gotten into downtown yet.
We were on our way home from Fort Worth in two separate cars. My husband pulled into a shopping center, but, since I was a Yankee (from Michigan), I forged ahead, trying to reach our house in Azle. In the same shopping center where my husband was taking cover, a young man who worked in one of the stores ran outside to call home and tell his family he was safe. The public telephones in Texas are often like a phone on a parking meter post with a little cover over the phone itself. While the young man was on the outside phone, a hailstone the size of a softball (3.5" in diameter) came from the sky, hit the young man in the head, killing him. Meanwhile, I was still (stupidly) trying to get home. I saw a hail stone hit my windshield. The windshield actually bowed in when the hail stone hit. I'll never forget that day.
@@D-Loccsta817Tx 5 people did die..but only two from the tornado directly. Two were swept away from the flood waters and the other died from his injuries from hail.
Sharde Wormley I was in rowlett one week before I was going to move Kaufman county then in 2017 I was on I20 while the whole canton tornado outbreak was happening
I was a valet parking cars at Del Frisco's that evening and got off early that day. So I went to the Black Dog Tavern (a basement bar underground) and had a couple beers. Then I saw the weather report on the telly and knew I couldn't leave so just waited for it to pass. When I was able to finally leave, the streets looked as if they were paved with diamonds (glass).
Crazy! I was two but my mom remembers that day! She has never experienced a tornado especially since she was from Mexico. We live off beach and Lancaster, and our crazy enough has sort of a view to downtown. My aunt drove by and my mom was sitting out side the porch because the clouds were really dark. My aunt screamed at to in her car for shelter. That part I doesn’t make sense to me. But she said she was admiring the clouds lmao not knowing that was a tornado haha
Well, sorry for the late reply, they had a whole batch of ACA sirens back then, ACA Howlers, Allertors,P-15s, Thunder Bolt 1000S, Sth-10s, SD-10s, so the reason they didn’t sound that moment is because this was more later after the 3 minutes the sirens sounded, The sirens have a 3 minute timer on them so they will shut off after 3 minutes.
I was 18 working in the petroleum club in the tallest green glass downtown building it was scary but what was worse then the entire building swaying was trying to run down 40 flights of stairs as the building rocked back and forth like we were on a boat with waves
@@JamesClark993311 I mean, some people do remember when they were infants(most people's memories start a 2). It's just rare, but not impossible. If you do remember, you do. People will just doubt that so be ready for it lol.
I was 9 and was right off Henderson. Scariest. Moment. Of. My. Life. I have to take anti anxiety medication now when tornado watches are issued 🌪️
I still want to see a tornado with my eyes im so fascinated by weather
Drama queen diva...
I too was 9, I lived just South of I-20 off Bardin and Matlock. I had PTSD for years from this.
I lived off of Lilac and Henderson and remember this day clearly. Can definitely say it left me traumatized for awhile. 😂 I was 9 too!
You sound like an addict
I've heard all about this tornado as I lived in the area, and seeing it on camera is absolutely amazing and terrifying

Wow, if this would have been a stronger tornado and not a low end F3, this could have gotten truly horrific.
It wasn’t downtown.

Geeze, I knew someone died by getting hit by hail, I didn't realize it was him trying to call someone by going outside!!! My goodness, that's sad.
Proof that downtown areas can get hit
This isn't the first time
I hope that nobody got hurt or killed during the tornado warning in 2000
Injuries but no deaths which was amazing 🙏

I was 15 when this happened softball size hail broke all windows out of our house. Tree fell on roof was the scariest day ever.
