Hi guys, sorry for my English, I'm French. I'm a fan of tornado and I discovered the channel a few hours ago. Never has a video made me feel so much emotion. Thank God you are alive, continue what you are doing, but stay careful.
On Palm Sunday in 1994 my family was trapped in a tornado/hail storm in our car on our way back from visiting family. This was really emotional to watch because we weren’t sure we were going to make it-I was 9 and my brother was 12. We stuffed pillows in the dashboard and held hands and prayed so we would be holding hands to Heaven. It all seems silly to someone to hear that story until you watch a video like this and it puts those emotions into perspective. Thank you God for keeping you all safe.

Riley(?) was apologizing so much at the end but my god, the way he avoided those power lines and poles AND the sparking electricity, and then managed to find a spot that ended up protecting them... This dude did an incredible job! His quick thinking saved their lives if you ask me.
@@TheOnlyIncognito he was following the instructions given to him, every extreme weather condition is unpredictable at times. They got the bad end of the stick, we shouldn’t be quick to judge, thank God they’re ok.
In my 20 plus years in the fire service I’ve did and seen A LOT of crazy & scary stuff, but nothing like this. When I saw those poles falling and the wires arcing, my heart sank because you guys had no way out and those were HIGH energy lines. I’m so glad that you guys made it out. Yes, the car, and other things are replaceable material, your lives aren’t.
@@-Astralized-I always thought the rubber of the tires grounded them therefore protecting them as long as they stay in the car. Don’t leave unless there’s a fire and you have no choice but even then there’s a specific way you have to do it. And don’t touch anything in the car or even touch each other. Just sit still keep your hands to yourself and call 911 and wait until they shut the power off. I worked for electrical company years ago and that’s what we were taught.
@@Trouble-Clef Thanks for the info, I need to research that topic more. There was an awful incident last year I think in Texas, where a woman got out of her car and died instantly, a couple kids in the back of the same car, who were family members of her saw it. I really hope her families doing okay.
That was really crazy to see. How high is the voltage on these lines? But what I don't understand is why the powerlines in the US are over the earth and with thin poles like that.
I’m sure it was frightening hearing him scream but at the same time it’s not something he can control. Not in that moment, not at first. I don’t know if you’ve ever been in a truly terrifying moment where you thought you would die but I can tell you from experience that everything becomes very surreal. You react in an almost instinctual way, at first. And for some people that’s the only way they react. For me, I froze at first. I couldn’t move a muscle. And you don’t think clearly because you have so much adrenaline and fear pumping through your body. So for me at first I was completely reactionary as opposed to me thinking about what I was going to do. But once I forced myself to calm down then I was able to think about what I had to do, and I did it. For those three men in that car during that tornado although it must’ve seemed like forever it really wasn’t that long of a period of time, but it doesn’t have to be when it’s a tornado. It can kill you pretty quickly. But I’m sure it felt like it went on forever. Every second that goes by seems like it’s minutes, and every minute feels like hours. So the reaction is instinctual. Had it gone on longer then they may have been able to calm themselves down but there really wasn’t time for that. I hope you never have to experience that kind of terror. But real terror is emotional, physical, and psychological. And you have no idea how you’ll react until you’re in the moment. And my guess would be that his screaming like that was due to the amount of fear and adrenaline that was in his body. And those two things go hand-in-hand. Fear does crazy things to you during the event, and after.
Grateful to you guys for having the courage to post this video. It shows that someone can have radars and maps and knowledge and still make a huge, fatal mistake. So glad you all survived. Definitely a teachable moment to anyone who thinks they'll be just fine jumping in the car to track a tornado. It's just too easy to...mess up. Thanks.
Forget the tornado, those powerlines were the real menace. I can't believe he got out of his car next to those wires to check on the damage. That's a wild stress response
i was scared about that to. especially after watching Rodalco2007's videos on step potential. those lines look to be HV feed lines. 500kv maybe. they would have come from a substation or switchyard, meaning wherever those lines where connected to would have experienced brownouts when the lines arced. the power would have only cut completely out when the tornado actually hit the lines and broke them.
Those poor babies I’m a mom and I can’t stop crying. I know they’re OK and it’s just a video but my God those poor kids. I’m so glad that they were OK.❤
yeah film makers should literally just drive into tornadoes instead of yet another CGI-fest that looks so fake. i mean they get tons of money & could probably even help with tornado research too, & build tornado-proof cars n stuff. Till then no one is safe yet. 🎉 So happy, you guys made it out of that!! 🎉
@@yeeaahBUDDY But it's not a one to one comparison. Thanking God for someone being alive isn't the same as blaming him for someone's passing, or whatever it may be. It's more about recognizing the good in life and acknowledging blessings, rather than pointing fingers when things don't go as planned. There's this belief in a bigger picture, where we're all part of a grand design. So, when life's going great, we're all about giving thanks. But when it gets rough, that's when we really lean into our faith for some comfort without necessarily blaming a higher power for every tragedy..

Sometimes that’s all you can do. Something just takes over in you sometimes in situations like that and you just start taking control. Sometimes you have to because no one else is
That was exactly correct from a survivalist standpoint. Staying in that car means that a secondary tornado could finish you off. The first thing you need to do after surviving disaster is assess whether another one is coming, and how to prepare for it. They confirmed they were out of the tornado, and that dude instantly moved on to checking for the next one. It was a perfect response to a horrible situation.
This video is INCREDIBLE. You guys had some guts putting it online. Being in utter terror for your life in a situation like that is a deeply personal thing and it’s good you all supported each other so well. I have watched a lot of stormchaser, tornado chaser stuff but this one will never be topped for showing what it is really like. I fully expected the car to lift in the air, do you think it was because there were four men holding it down it was too heavy? Or is the main strength of the circular wind just above the height of the car? You guys, I have so much respect!
You guys have a good group of personalities. The dude screaming was the group thought and it was necessary/understandable. to stay in focused and alert about the current situation but hold fast to any opportunity available to leave. And the guy who said it’s time to be proactive now, absolutely right on the nail. Focused and sharp on what the situation was afterwards. You want friends like these two plus the other guys who held it down as well. These differences bolster the group as a whole. I have no need to emphasize a danger I haven’t experienced. But thanks to you all, we got footage of a real life experience, so I’m educated, happy for yours lives remaining unharmed, and the footage y’all provided. that’s what I’m talking about. two birds Please don’t do it again. But thank you from the deepest pockets of my soul.
This. People dont realize just how good it is to have a friend that when you do crazy stuff si always willing to say "We can stop and turn around" because that friend will be the one to save your life one day
You're so right. My personality is similar to the he driver. I'm ok before and during a dangerous situation. I'm actually pretty brave. But I'm also the one who'd be affected by PTSD afterwards.
It's a good comment but I don't want anyone losing their cool and screaming for a magic deity at that point. If that deity is real he can go save one of the 10,000 children who will die today from starvation. As happens every day. I've made my bed and will deal with it. Or the 10 year old who died in this tornado. The poor father lost his wife as well.
I do auto body repair and let me tell you, if that car was facing any other way and if those seats were protecting yall someone would’ve had their head or throat cut wide open from all that debris flying at the car. That front window would’ve failed and someone could’ve been killed. Thankfully you guys are okay and learned.

They checked the rear and front windows for the power lines. Without either side present, there was extremely little risk of them being in the blind spot that was left
@@andrewnotrealname848 @3:33, just before the worst of the storm hit, you can see powerlines/poles hanging over the wet roadway. @4:14 you can see how close the wire is to the car. Even if the storm blew it further away, power lines can energize the ground up to 35ft away from point of contact (about the length of a full-size school bus). @6:45, I can see what LOOKS like wires extending down the side of the road. If the vehicle was in contact with an area of charged ground/water, stepping out like he did could have electrocuted him. The safe option would have been to stay in the car. IF he needed to exit, he should have jumped clear without touching the car and the ground at the same time. Land with feet together, then shuffle away with feet close together.

I was thinking how the disciples panicked in the storm as Jesus chilled in the same boat. He delivered you, too. Thanks for sharing such an emotionally brutal experience with us. It's a reminder that life is so brief and so fragile.
A couple observations. When the one guy said to drive into the ditch and the driver said no, that was a very stupid move as not only would being at lower elevation have lessened the impact of the wind and given some protection from flying debris as well as moving them further from the downed power lines. Second when the storm had passed when the first guy stepped out from the vehicle directly onto the downed power lines he was fortunate that the power company had cut the power to that grid or he would have been cooked from the inside. Easily the worst part was that guy screaming, it's hard to believe no one in the vehicle didn't strike him to shut him up. If you're going to chase danger face it like a man not a hysterical woman.
@@larak5468 that’s what I was doing too. I think they were just in so much shock that they couldn’t remember the lines going down/couldn’t process it at the time.
very lucky they weren't electrocuted when they stepped out of the car.....lucky in so many ways. Always stay in you're car when downed power lines are contacting the car or near the car. Unless of course the car is burning and you have no choice. How you leave the vehicle is crucial though as if you touch the ground and the car simultaneously, you will provide a path to ground and be electrocuted. You must hop out of the car with both feet and keep hopping with feet together until you are faaaar away from the downed lines. Easier said than done....but best to stay in the car until help comes. Damned lucky!
Had those powerlines not fallen, you would have been able to get away. And that was an absolute gut punch for me. I felt so hopeless when that happened. I can't imagine how y'all felt when that happened! I'm SO glad you guys are okay and here to share your story.

God had a purpose for your life! What an amazing testimony
Except that God made the tornado...

Why can’t they drive over the lines
@@MrMasterDebate the car is made out of metal. if they droven over that then i dont even know what would happen to them...
That was really crazy to see. How high is the voltage on these lines? But what I don't understand is why the powerlines in the US are over the earth and with thin poles like that.

Him screaming and yelling "PLEASE", would have Frighting me even More!!
Fear does crazy things to you during the event, and after.

i was scared about that to. especially after watching Rodalco2007's videos on step potential. those lines look to be HV feed lines. 500kv maybe. they would have come from a substation or switchyard, meaning wherever those lines where connected to would have experienced brownouts when the lines arced. the power would have only cut completely out when the tornado actually hit the lines and broke them.

Not sure it was a mistake or miscalculation ? I’ve seen a video from Reed where a tornado changed direction unexpectedly. Just glad they’re ok though. ❤
Wow. I didn’t realize they rolled until I read your comment and watched it a couple more times. Unbelievable.
They are blesssed that them lines didn’t smash them wow
@@bettywhite6672late response but what video was it?
This moved me to tears... Jesus was right there with you 🌪️✝️
That powerline trapping you was so scary then the tornado heads towards you, I'm glad that you and the others are safe afterwards
That was the scariest chaser footage I’ve ever seen and heard. The screams and the roaring winds…just…wow. I’m so thankful that you guys are safe! Praise God!
Hearing the screams of "Please" and "Dear lord" had me in goosebumps. Please stay safe, im glad you guys made it out alright.
Tanner Charkes, I just watched you on TV when you helped that old couple in Iowa who had their house blown apart by a tornado. You area very good man TC! I also watched you and your buddies get blown over in the car. Wow! Take care you guys!
I've never white knuckled so hard thru tornado footage. Absolutely intense. Thank God you guys are safe. Thank you for posting such an emotional event, as I know the decision to share it wasn't an easy one.
same here !
Right with you!!!
Couldn't have said it better
I mean.. .god is the reason the tornado is there in the first place?
@@nacsEverything can happen because of the sin of the world. The reason why there was suffering because of sin. Aren't you also forgetting that the devil exists? The devil works in this world to let people stray further from God.
I’ve watched enough tornado videos to know that if one guy is scared and the other two are sayings “dude it’s fine! We are totally safe” it’s definitely not fine and not safe. 😂
Praise God for His mercy and for giving His angels charge over you! He is a very present help in times of trouble 🙏🏻So grateful you all are ok
Dude you coulda died from those downed powerlines when you got out as well. You got lucky, glad you're okay.
I was saying out loud 'Don't get out of the car! You survived the tornado don't get killed afterward from the power lines!!'
Replace lucky with blessed. It’s a blessing that they lived through it.
It wasn’t luck, it was a blessing they made it through. That was a bit stressful to watch.
Had those powerlines not fallen, you would have been able to get away. And that was an absolute gut punch for me. I felt so hopeless when that happened. I can't imagine how y'all felt when that happened! I'm SO glad you guys are okay and here to share your story.
Definitely a smart move to put yourself in that situation and then act so surprised when something like this happens. "holy shoot" ☠
@@ralphonzodrawls9191fr
If the power lines hadn't fallen, they might have run for the ditch, which would have made things much different in a terrible way
2:50 they were legit seconds away from being crushed by the power line in this segment😭😭
Yo Tanner, this is some insane footage and story. Lots of people tearing you apart for this, but it's an incredible learning experience and shows humility to share it for others to see. Thank you for showcasing it.
we always can learn, even with our mistake
This was so incredibly intense. It's a miracle you guys made it through that. After it was gone I felt the wave of relief, I cannot imagine what you guys felt. Glad you're all okay 🙌
They called on Jesus to protect them and he performed a miracle.
the first video i saw on tic tok cut out during the tornado and i kept doing reseach to find out if they survived or not. found this video, i am glad that Jesus answered their prayers and pleas to save them.
I get so emotional watching this I know what It feels like me and my house were in the direct path of an EF3 tornado back in 2021 and it’s the most traumatic thing ever. I’m glad you guys are okay and I thank you guys as a team for being great people and forgiving of one another.
was it the one in Illinois in June of that year? I was in that one too if it's the same one. Right in the heart
What kind of damage did your house sustain?
@@shaanchaudhry5719 needed a whole new roof, new garage, new fences, new siding, new gutters, somehow no broken windows. But the biggest loss was our 100 year old Maple tree fell over and smashed my Toyota Corolla to pieces. Completely totalled it.
@@hal312Damn that’s insane!! We got an EF3 in central Louisiana in 2019 which is highly unusual to get a tornado of that size. It stayed on the damn ground for over an hour. Luckily my house was ok but unfortunately my place of work and several areas of town got a lot of damage. Very sad to hear about your damage and especially losing that tree.
We're stuck" sent chills down my spine
This is my absolute worst fear! Hearing you cry absolutely crushed my soul! Our Lord definitely answered your prayers & cries. What a miracle that you all survived!!!
Wow, that was intense. So glad you guys are ok. I can't even imagine how scary that was
this made me cry, I can’t imagine being there in the moment. so glad you’re safe. that’s absolutely terrifying
Yet EXCITING though, best ride ever 😂
Idk these guys… but I also cried here.. it was so intense…
Snowflake
Cried laughing. Happy they are ok
I also cried watching. I'm impressed they were able to speak after that, I would be in a total state of shock for hours.😢
Thank god your okay
So thankful that you guys lived to document this. Thank God he protected you. He had mercy and said, “I’m not done with you yet.” This video is giving me 2nd thoughts about going storm chasing
Teared up not gonna lie, this was really intense, I can’t even imagine how you guys must’ve felt. Glad y’all are okay 🖤
Same. Hearing them cry out to God for protection and help was so primal and heart wrenching.
Praise God He kept you safe. I’m very impressed by the faith you expressed during what happened to you. It’s rare to find a storm chasing group that doesn’t cus during something like that
Hahahahahaha
Lmao
You could not be more lame.
Christian 'faith' is a terribly fragile thing, and I don't see them as having any real faith at all. Seconds after the power lines fell, they started desperately screaming for their sky daddy to intervene and save them. If they had genuine faith, they would have been a LOT more calm in the face of danger.
Let me guess, if they had died it magically wouldn’t have been God’s fault lmao
You guy's really had the holy spirit with you guy's the whole time, respect to the heavenly fathers.
4:40 The way he was begging was haunting😳
People in jail hear that all day
@@youflaw3285 I did 10 years straight and I only heard that one time from a man who's mother died 1 day before his release date. That dood was legit begging for his life
Screaming out like that isn't going to do anything.

@@Whocares158 They're still alive and well. I mean, who's to say for sure?
The guy screaming may not be cut out for this after all.
Yeah. One guy out of four, though. I think when they were looking for people to bring along, 25% isn't too bad. And at least now they know who not to bring next time.
yeah that guy is soft. nobody wants to die hearing your girly screams bro.
