this masterpiece was written by the Rev, orchestrated by Danny Elfman's people. the live version at LBC is amazing. the Rev sings the female part live. there is a making of video that shows what happened when they went into production for this song. A7X has many shades. i hope you explore them.

Absolutely my favourite Sevenfold track, just for being SO different. It's essentially Sevenfolds Bohemian Rhapsody. Mostly from the mind of The Rev, RIP.
It's almost, ALMOST a shame that the video is so good because people really seem to miss how much is going on musically, it's insane how this is composed and how well it's all balanced. So glad you guys realised just how good the melody and instrumentals are in this.

This song was actually written while the band had an extreme writers block. They holed up in a cabin in Big Bear and wrote the entire self titled album(I believe it was the whole album anyways). This song had major influence from Oingo Boingo and a band that Jimmy(The Rev) and Synister Gates had called Pinkly Smooth. Oingo Boingo is what inspired them for the orchestra adaptation in this song. They actually had a small orchestra record in their cabin in Big Bear. This song is a beautiful conglomeration of the entire band overcoming turmoil and pouring their hearts out into a record to save the band from falling apart.

  • @unclefoot
    @unclefoot Рік тому +97

Fucking AWESOME track. Funny enough, no one in the band wanted to take on the task of writing and recording this song when they were in the studio for their self titled. Jimmy (the Rev) wrote most of it on the piano and made up most of the lyrics for him and Matt on the fly. The orchestration was actually done by the oingo boingo guys and was HEAVILY influenced by Danny Elfman. The horrifying lyrics were meant to act as an insane (and darkly funny) juxtaposition to the peppy music.
The Rev was (and is) one of my all time favorite drummers and artists. He made that band really special and I haven’t been able to properly get into anything they’ve done since he passed away…
Also, Matt did indeed damage his voice. They had to remove a cyst and he lost a fair amount of his range. However, the cyst removal actually effected his singing voice rather than his screams. He went to a vocal coach named Ron Anderson (dude tutored Axle Rose, Chris Cornell and a bunch of other incredible singers) in order to get his range back up to snuff. But the choice to stop screaming was purely creative. If you listen to anything from Waking the Fallen and City of Evil back to back, you can hear the stark difference in his voice.
A7X is definitely worth checking out in greater detail. City of Evil and their self titled album are both masterpieces!!!!
Loving the reactions, keep ‘em coming!
    Cheers

M Shadows did not injure his voice in a way that affected his singing. It was a choice to switch styles and he will still perform those old songs in concert. Loved this. A7X have such a variety of music, and every fan has a favourite era. Some old schoolers still love sounding the seventh trumpet, City of evil is rightfully revered, Waking the Fallen and the White album are quality, Hail to the King and Nightmare have a notably more casual and commercial appeal with some of their songs and if I must say, some of those tracks are CRIMINALLY overlooked on those albums, and then there's the stage, which from my perspective is a wonderful and thoughtful evolution of their sound. There's also Diamonds in the rough, which I would also say is overlooked.
Would love to see you guys take a look at Almost Easy, something like The Stage, or a classic such as Beast and the Harlot. Damn, so much to choose from!! First time on this channel and I'll definitely be back for more, loved it!

Just because they used so many different instruments and the difference between a cheap pair and a decent expensive one is a stark difference. The cheap pair I can hear at most 3 or less of the different instruments and tracks layered over the song a more decent expensive pair I not only hear pretty much all of the instruments I can hear little details I didn't hear before with the cheap pair. Wild how everyone is so surprised when an avenged sevenfold song is good when they’ve always been one of the most talented musicians and song writers ever.

I'm sure it's been said but M Shadows had a plan from the beginning to make one album with all harsh vocals (Sounding the Seventh Trumpet), one 50/50 (Waking the Fallen), and the third would be all clean vocals (City of Evil). It's discussed in the DVD that came with this album.

This was always my favorite song by them. I listened to it when I was younger and didn't understand the words. I legit thought he said I got a heater for your fries at first UNTIL I saw the music video. Which was definitely a shock to my younger self. I didn't even realize what was happening in the video fully until I saw it again when I was younger. I understood all the murder stuff but I didn't pick up on him with her, you know what I mean XD

2 things: You definitely have to check out their "behind the scenes" style "making of" video for this song and then definitely have to check out the Live in the LBC video for it also

A7X is definitely not a one note band. Just about every album is different from the last. Nightmare and Hail to the King were fairly similar, but then the next one The Stage was a big change. They are not at all afraid to experiment with different styles and sounds.
Little Piece of Heaven is the song that got me hooked on them. I watched the video and immediately went out and bought all their albums. Any band that can make a ballad about necrophilia is alright in my book. But seriously, I liked the tongue in cheek dark humor of the video, and the song itself is just great.

You should check out So Far Away and Seize the Day if you want more of the “not heavy” side. Both fantastic songs.
