- Today I am driving one of the wildest Jaguars ever made - the D-Type inspired Project 7. The first creation of Jaguar's new Special Vehicle Operations department (SVO), the car combined a savage 5L supercharged V8 with classic looks to make something rather special. But, is it special enough?

Also, yes, all these ultra-expensive speedsters are silly in terms of pricing. The only one I ever wanted was the 991 Speedster. And of course the Project 7, but the Project 7 was not silly in price.
There was a guy with an f-type at the navy yard I worked at. It was crazy loud and sounded amazing.
EDIT: I thought the guy had some sort of upgraded exhaust system. This video has me doubting that assumption.
I once heard one at a stop-light. The first thought that sprung to mind, was that this sound was designed to sound like it was not designed. Too good to be true in other words.
No, I've had three...this is standard fare on all V8 & V6 models (with different tones to the respective exhaust notes). This is the case on all but the more recent models where legislation has blunted the sound somewhat! Get the revs above 3k then lift off et voila - more pops & crackles than a bowl of Rice Krispies.
Yeah Jaguar V8s sound absolutely incredible. As you say, they sound like they have aftermarket exhausts, when stock. The only other car in recent years to have this effect IMO is probably the Hyundai i30n, absolutely brutal sounding things in person, with stock exhaust
it's a gorgeous car, but in the British racing green I think a brown leather interior would have looked pretty damn special. Also, that car, with a manual gearbox (especially a gated manual, because they look phenomenal) would have been the stuff of dreams

A worthy review James. Knowing Harry's content well and being a huge Jaguar fan (I used to work for them, so I guess that would be natural) I had hopes you'd enjoy it. I'm glad those hopes were realised! Always a good day when I see one of these beauties. Still somewhat out of my price range and likely ever to be so, but I'm glad there's people like Harry and David who have them and are good enough to let them be seen.

As the chap who introduced David to the P7 and P8, it was good to see it had the same response when you drove it, very little commentary when your on the throttle and smiling face as you come off it.
What an appropriate car to review on a British jubilee holiday. The V8 F type should be celebrated while we can. Never a track car in any form but somehow just a joy on the road.

Too bad they "outdid" themselves in the last year and will not continue the run. A vehicle being discontinued is not something I would want to purchase unless it was for collection.

There's a blue Project 7 at my local JLR dealership down the road from me and now I appreciate what that car actually represents. Looks great in British racing Green.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who hates alcantara steering wheels. Horrid stuff always feels like the last persons sweaty, oily hands, and quickly looks like it if you are constantly coddling it too.
No the leather was standard, the Alcantara is a option.
That's my dream car. I always use it in any video games I play if it's available. Totally in love with it. Out of my price range unfortunately.
I think if it had a tan interior it would definitely feel more special inside and compliment the British Racing Green paint

This thing sounds incredible. Such a shame that Jaguar, makers of some of the best sounding, affordable cars is going full electric.

There are channels that come and go from everybody's recommended list but the British car content on my feed has consisted of Harry's channel and yours for a long time now. I'd love to see you doing some sort of special trip as he does with one of your lovely cars (the f12 :P)
I have tried to do road trip content before but unfortunately the views just aren't there to justify it

Looks like your camera was so amazed at what it was filming it fainted.
Oh yeah and Harry is great. Discovered his channel a few years back due to another Jag, a yellow XJS V12, think it was a 78, could be wrong about the year. I absolutely adore those. I was never big on the E-Type but my rich Aunt had one when I was a kid and I thought they were just beautiful things. I like the Pontiac Fiero GT as well. I'm a sucker for flying buttresses.
Great video James and with its nod to the D type and limited production numbers, prices are probably only going to increase. But if like me and a few folk on this thread, you don’t have deep enough pockets to own one of these and want a piece of Jaguar history, bag yourself a 5.0 SC XKR. Unbelievable vfm and you’ll own some Ian Callum design genius. It’s an every day driver and has more power than you’ll ever need on public roads and you’ll never tire of that V8. And, to untether the latter, had mine remapped (no other mods) engine and gearbox by those clever guys at DMS Automotive in Southampton and it’s now 634bhp/576ft lb torque. It’s in Kyanite Blue, turns heads everywhere I take it and leaves most cars in its wake. Yes it’s ageing now, yes it’s not a D Type or 911 blah blah but for the money, it’s a ridiculous amount car. It is my daily driver and makes me smile every time I look at it. Suffice to say, it’s not for sale 😂. Ps James has reviewed the coupe and soft top versions of these as I’m sure everyone on this thread knows.

The Renault Spider, that mid engined one with the Clio engine.... Bet those command a hefty price now of you can find one though.

I had a bit of a chat with one of the first owners when he brought his example along to a meet in Bristol at the time.
He absolutely loved the car, but was utterly frustrated that after 6 months they still couldn't get the top to fit so that it stopped the rain getting in.
He said his was the car they tried all the fixes on - hopefully it eventually got sorted and the good news spread to all of the other owners :)

So they stiffened up the half of the suspension that makes the car feel quick around turns and more or less left the half that you sit on, maybe just bumped up the numbers for the sake of it.
That's just genius. They really knew what they were doing here.
And I love short, steep windscreens on convertibles, I still think that considering the existence of the Targa, the Speedster should just be the default 911 cabrio.
Stiffening the rear would have made an already skittish car a deathtrap for road use. The changes to the suspension geometry (mainly the extra camber) allows you to run a much stiffer front end without compromising grip but I'd imagine it's not the most pleasant thing to take over a big speed hump
If they "really knew what they were doing" it wouldn't be a last year run being replaced by electric.
I prefer the look of this over the Project 8. The P8 looks like a Ford Mondeo to me.

The hood/front clip here is about as good as it gets. Sort of Maserati-ish.

Fully manual seats is all anyone requires. If you have more then one driver electronic would be good. Just set it and forget it. Cheerio.

Used to think these were a bit naff tbh but they've really grown on me. Something a bit special and different.
Sounds very nice, but I don't understand the styling as to me it does not manage to capture the look of the D-type at all...
Rather it looks more like a regular cabriolet with garish fake race decals and a silly wing. (does any cabrio look good with a wing?)

I think you'd be best off saving the extra money and buying a normal F type S/R with the V8
To be fair, most of the super expensive cars you're comparing the project 7 to have 2 differences 1) they come from more expensive brands and 2) more importantly, they're not just roofless, but windshieldless. So not rhe same thing. This is more like a Boxster Spyder.

The PS4 are bettered by now by the likes of Bridgestone and Pirelli. Hence the new PS5. Replaced my ps4 tyres with Bridgestone potenza sport, cheaper from my tyre shop and much better balance, eliminated understeer on my q2 guila that the ps4 didn’t, even after tyre pressure tweaks.

I like the nose stripe and the BRG body color but the roundels on the side are just ...yuck.
If it *was* a racing car and had to have your race number on it then fair enough but as a street car it just looks pretentious and a bit to try hard for my taste.
