They're not underrated. People just get past the amazing sound stage and realize it's still a Jag. I think it looks good and the sound is to die for but I still wouldn't buy one.
More cushy than a Porsche, more classy than a Corvette, more sporty than a Lexus, more rowdy than an Aston, more fun than a BMW. This thing truly is in a class of its own, and I love it.
Well, not 100% sure about some of that… my 2020 Aston Vantage in its most aggressive mode is pretty dang rowdy 😝 shouting and popping and snapping without needing a ton of encouragement 😂
Very well put. Same thought process here basically when purchasing a 2024 R. These are ridiculous cars. In a good way, and man do they ever draw a lot of attention. That could be good or bad depending on your goals.
Used to have a 2016 F-Type V8 R AWD Convertible (mouthful, I know). Had SO much grip, and felt phenomenally planted without feeling heavy. Was never really pushed 10/10ths, but certainly hard enough. Loads of confidence, and in 2016 the interior and tech was acceptable, though not that impressive now. Being a 2016, it crackled and popped like a maniac. I remember many a peaceful summer sunrise being interrupted by what sounded like an automatic rifle being let off in the village center… but no, it was the Jag. Miss it dearly.
I had a 2016 manual. Didn't have the V8 power, but plenty for a daily driver. Sadly it got rear ended, and they are so rare that finding another was too much work.
The supercharged V6 manual was (and still kinda is) one of my daily driver dream cars. Is it really that good of a car or do I have it on a pedestal it doesn’t deserve? For reference, I love Miata’s and have owned a few. Currently have a C6 corvette and am not big on tech BS in my cars. Sorry to hear yours got rear ended man.
Yup I had a 2017 R AWD Cabrio Also… I should never have sold it… I still think there is/was nothing that can match it. It was the ultimate spec for the $$
I currently have a '17 R and have had it for a year now. Still love it like the first day i bought it. Still turn around to look at it every day before i walk in the house
2018 SVR Convertible, here. Pops and crackles on command with the little trick the guys on The Straight Pipes showed us. Rides like a Grand Tourer. Corners like it's on rails. Punches you in the back when you stomp on it. Literally have to massage my face from smiling so much when I come in from driving it ... Guys like the noise, ladies like the looks.
My uncle's F-type spoiler went up and refused to come down. Jaguar Teleservice told him about the switch as if my uncle didn't know it existed. Jaguar service dept in Vancouver says it will be two weeks before they can look at it but if it's what they suspect, the part which malfunctioned will be 4-6 weeks out on backorder. But they still need to see the car before they can submit the warranty claim. So if you see a elderly Asian man parking his White F-Type with Red interior in Richmond and the spoilers up, he's not a douchebag (at least not to his nephew)
@@patrickdej2696 Uncle Kai has run the gamut of software resets. Shutting the car on and off. Disconnect battery and reattaching it. Don't want to do anything more extreme seeing that the car is still under warranty
I've owned a 911 C4S and an F-Type R. Very different driving experiences. Yes, the 911 is, overall, a more comprehensive package and better driver's car. But (1) 911s are a dime-a-dozen where I live and (2) the F-Type is a monster all the time; it doesn't have an 'off' button for its unabashed childishness so it's a blast to drive no matter where you're going.
@@jody024 : Disagree. It depends on your tastes. I have a Jaguar F-Type, a Jaguar XF and a Range River Velar (all JLR products) and they’ve proven to be very reliable l. The Porsche was well built, of course, but not entirely trouble free. If you’re looking for a smooth, polished experience then Porsche is the way to go (especially if it’s your daily driver). If you’re looking for something more exciting, brutish and (IMO) more fun then the Jaguar is the way to go. Plus, you only live once. Why buy the same car again and again?
@@jody024 Bore scoring. Coolant tube glue. IMS is rare, but the other two are not rare....just wait to see how bore scoring will kill the M96 cars.....it will. No, Porsches are not more reliable. That is hooey and I owned two of them.
@@jody024 F-Types are more than the sum of their parts - trust me. However I've never owned a 911 so I can't really compare, only a Boxster S & Cayman S; both were fantastic cars but I'd still have the F-Type all day every day. Oh & the worst out of action event I had on my three F-Types over 4 years was the head unit on the infotainment malfunctioning where I couldn't use he sat nav or phone. Jag had it for 3 days & I was given a F-Pace as a courtesy car. Nothing else was a problem except having to replace the rear tyres once every year. 😁
11:25 James shifts to Sport mode, Thomas glances at the shifter. James downshifts, slams down the throttle. Thomas: OMG. His heads get slammed back. Man I loved that moment
This is an absolute bucket list car for me. I will own one of these one day. I would much rather have one of these over a 911. Oddly enough I'd rather have the first gen because I think it looks better but I'll settle for one of these too
Oh damn the pepperage farms and the Amber Heard jokes. You guys are the funniest yet most informative auto review channel. Can’t get enough. Love these Jaguar F type because I own an 18 F Pace s which was the fastest until the SVR broke the scene. Keep up the great reviews.I like that AWD because I’m assuming Faster 0-60. Love the “gives up the rear end a lot faster”. Classic throttle house jokes.
I like how the Jaguar F Type R (SVR), Nissan GT-R, BMW M4 CS, Lotus Evora, BMW M8, and base Porsche 911 have similar $90-$110K+ market audiences. All of them are such beautiful 2 doors, sometimes with 4 seats. I hope they all sell very well. It’s interesting how different their buyer’s mindsets are from those that are “budgeting up” to the two door ~$50K Toyota Supra, Nissan Z, Infiniti Q60 RS, Audi TT, Ford Mustang Mach 1, and ~$60K base C8 Corvette/Porsche Cayman/BMW Z4/Alfa Romeo 4C/Alpine A110 world.

The 2018 face-lift (Sport 400) is definitely the sweet spot for me for these. It's like the first Gen face-lift r8, the lighting elements clean up the front while keeping the nice lines and proportions of thr original concept
Except they all have yellow piping on a black interior & you can only get them in silver, black or white iirc with those tacky yellow 400 badges & slightly garish body trim - urghh. I had a silver one
I was literally just thinking this, 1 year later, looking to buy an F-Type. I looked and a 2019 SVR here is now at least twice as much as an R... That's not really worth it. The Rs are a crazy car at the price. They didn't get cheap though, just less expensive.
Currently have had a Italian Red '17 F Type R for over a year now. Still love it like the first day i bought it. I turn around to look at it before i go in the house every day.
My 2017 F-Type R was 550HP and AWD and was an AWESOME car to drive. I HATED the infotainment in the thing but I was able to keep up and run down 911 GTSs, M3s and M5s due to those combinations and my driving skill (slightly above average). The sound was HEAVENLY. The only model above was the SVT that my brother in law bought. MSRP was $118K as it had the full leather option interior and a few other things. I paid $85K for it late in 2017. LOVED it but unfortunately we lost it to an un attentive foreigner who was late for a round of golf who ran into the rear of it at 45MPH as we were stopped in a turning lane. I would probably buy another new one over a used 911 since it's the "last hurrah". Spoiler goes up when speed exceeds 85MPH
The problem is the old one (2016+) had an even better V8 sound, also had AWD and only had about 25 less HP. Honestly I don't see too many reasons to buy the new one when only the displays were updated and the lights which arguably look worse than before, and it only sounds good after 3500 RPM or so.
@@esthetics4512 @ESTHETICS😎 I guess it's about the same, but at all RPMs not just over 3500, and with lots of pops! It really stood out compared to American V8s and the AMG engines, I love it!
You guys are the best car reviewers ever. I’ve watched both channels for a while and I love them all! My father in law had a beautiful 68 e type and he let me take his daughter ( my future wife) to our 68 high school prom and I was in heaven. This was my first introduction to import cars and I was hooked.
I’ve been a huge fan of Jags cars since late 2010s and I gotta say, the best rendition of this car was the 2018 “face refresh” in the coveted SVR variant. Now _that_ was the F-Type in its prime; Gorgeous styling, commanding presence, and an engine note and exhaust pops that were 2nd to none. This version is “cool/okay” but nowhere near the levels of the aforementioned.
I got to spend a little time on the track in one of these pre-covid (I'm assuming it's a bit more refined now). It was a riot, and while I'm normally a RWD, the AWD system didn't bother me at all. When you weren't at the absolute edge it felt very RWDy to me.
That car is freaking gorgeous! I absolutely LOVE that color! And I disagree with the comments about the front end. I think it looks sleek and aggressive. Maybe a little too Audi-esque, but I really like it.
I'm torn, I do like the older face and I resisted this one to begin with but it has grown on me - it's just a shame that every other car has the same look now.
The best looking F Type is the mild-facelift update from 2018 to 2020 before they changed the headlights completely. Compared to the original model the headlights were updated to LED's and the front bar was tidied up a bit so it looks much fresher than the earlier models and doesn't have that same feeling of looking "old" compared to the new ones. I did have a 2018 V6 supercharged that I loved so I may be biased
I've recently had the itch to pull the trigger on the new Z, but every time I do, I remember I can get one hell of a used F-Type in the same price range as the new Z! Happy owner of one of the greatest modern sleepers: Jaguar XFR
Also no theory on gunshot exhaust. They software updated to eliminate it, part of the recall when they burn up o2 sensors and cats. New models come sound neutered
god that V8 sounds SO aggressive, I love how Jag has never bothered with lowering the noise with mufflers and filters, but I've only read negative things with the service/maintenance of these cars :(
Actually they did lower the noise and muffle it with the newer ones, and there’s a certain software version that will lower the exhaust note on the older ones
I love my 2015 V8 S Convertible RWD. It feels very solid with the beefy tires, and makes all the necessary pops and bangs from the exhaust. I wouldn't trade it in for anything. Perfect summer car to either cruise in, or take out for a fun joy ride.
What was the mileage when you first got it compared to now? Ima a corvette guy but the exhaust note on that car piques my interest… do they hold up well maintenance wise?
The pops and crackles are gone because the fuel dump demolished catalytic converters. Some F-Types would burn through two $4000 sets per 10K miles. They are a warranty item to 80K/8 years in the States.
Loved the looks of the old design. Brought be back to the years where I would cut out pictures from auto show brochures and tape them on my wall. I thought it had just the right amount of elegance and sports car presence. This one looks thoroughly anonymous--or like an AMG GT with less interesting curves.
I have a very low mileage minty 2017 F Type SVR and I absolutely love it. I have had the crank pulley changed, 200 cell sport cats and downpipes added, and a tune from VAP and it made an already fast car much faster. Above 3500 RPM it is a rocket ship. I went between the AMG GT and the SVR for a couple of months but chose the SVR as the ultimate F Type model rather than a more base model AMG GT. The SVR is a pleasure to drive anywhere, and I don't think it's overly stiff when you have the adjustable adaptive suspension setting at the softest setting. I think they are just beautiful and classy sports cars, and I do agree that the older style of headlights looked better than the new ones. The only feature I like better on the new F Type R is the front grill which lacks the crossbar the earlier style had. Some of the special SVR-only parts have now made it to the regular R model like the rear diffuser and the 575 HP tune, whereas before the R was 550HP. Anyway, great little review of a great car.
I have a '17 SVR as well, and I'm considering a pulley/tune. Have you had any issues? Are you on 91 octane? The only reason I haven't done it yet is because I'm in the middle of nowhere. However, I'm moving to a metropolitan area (in Texas) and look forward to finding a tuner for this platform.
@@amathern The only tuner to use IMO is Velocity Automotive Performance in Canada or just search VAP Automotive Performance. They have been doing R&D on the F Type for a long time, and everything I have gotten from them has been really good, from the parts to the tune. They are also very helpful if you need it, they will answer or return your call every time (often the owner of the company himself), and they are close to introducing a full E-85 package for the F Type, the first of any of the shops that specialize in this model. I have had no problems at all with their products or my car since I went with them. The ONLY negative thing I can say is I thought the 200 cell cats and down-pipes sounded bad on my car, but some of that is probably due to the factory cat-back Titanium exhaust that comes on the SVR. Titanium creates a higher pitch naturally, and their downpipes made it too metallic. *WITH THAT SAID, they fixed that issue by making a custom set of downpipes and 200 cell sport cats for me that included in-line small-diameter resonators, and that made ALL THE DIFFERENCE!* *They sound GREAT!!!* *These custom-built resonated downpipes pipes are no longer a special order-only deal, they are NOW A STANDARD EXTRA COST OPTION you can choose on the website.* I would recommend getting the resonated version to any buyer, whether they are an SVR or R owner. They just sound better in tone, pitch, and volume than the non-resonated version. I had ZERO problems with the crank pulley and the engine and trans tune for two years. My wife even ran a 10.9 1/4 mile in it after running an 11.1 and 11.0 over and over again. I just installed their supercharger pulley last week, along with a new belt and some other maintenance parts. Its a great design for the pulley in that it uses a heat-fit stainless steel hub and a bolt-on Grip-Tec treated pulley that you can swap in minutes. The factory pulley is a single press-fit assembly that is tedious to change. I haven't had a chance to finish it quite yet, but just need to install the new tune for it and the trans tune they sent me. Hopefully this weekend I will get it done. That should make the car a consistent 10.6 to 10.9 car in the 1/4. As you can probably tell, I do A LOT of research on any car part I use before I try it, and I have no doubt it will RELIABLY make the car faster. That is a big thing with VAP, they do not want to tune your engine to run on the ragged edge where it might have a little more power but it is super-hard on the engine. Their tune gets the most they can out of the engine and SC without over-stressing it to the point of being unreliable or breaking parts on the car. I live in KY and all of the gas stations here have 87, 89, and 93 octane. I run 93 all of the time in this car, but will absolutely swap it to E85 like my HCREWB Challenger when the kit is ready that they are developing.
I'm looking to buy the 2016 F Type R coupe in black. I can't believe how affordable that year is. You can find a nice one from 50-65k depending on the trim, and mileage. I did my research and although the 2015 is nice, the 2016 is the first rear with AWD. This is truly a luxury GT-R for a much cheaper price.
Yep! The refresh sadly changed for the worse what was arguably one of the most beautiful cars on the road. Still looks better than the German offerings, but it's a Jag and the fashion police don't like Jags.
Just goes to show how individual this issue is. Most people don’t agree from what I can tell, but the front of the original design was the only aspect of the car that I wasn’t a huge fan of. I personally love what the redesign delivered for the front end. Most definitely looks more up-to-date and better. I do have the sense I’m in the minority on this though. The rear though? Pretty much universally loved from what I can tell. It’s the bomb. The diffuser on the newest iteration of the R is just what it needed to make an already incredible look that much more incredible.
5:33 no the reason the pops and bangs have gone is the original tune leaves the gas on on the overrun and it ruined the cats and Jag got sick of paying to replace them
Friend of mine who is a LeMans LMP2 driver has a fleet of personal vehicles including the 812SF, v12 manual Aston, etc... still prefers his 2015 Type R as a preferred daily drive. I agree the old one is much better looking.
Having owned an XF Sport Brake with the V6 Supercharged Jaguar is building some fun cars. The looks were stunning and with AWD plus 380hp surprisingly quick. Hats off to them
I have sold my 2016 F-Type to my brother last year and have changed to a F-Pace SVR with the same V8. Not the top speed, the way and the feeling is better than everything else. On each corner you can see a Porsche, Mercedes and a BMW, but a Jag not. Actually I look for a E-Type V12 to complete my Cars.
Love my 2019 R. Still has the exhaust note. So much fun to drive. The roads in Hawaii absolutely suck so a 911 just wasn’t driveable at all. I use a Porsche SUV as a daily driver and the F Type when I want to have fun.
I think one thing that is misses is that the F-type is having a massive resurgence on 2nd hand market. For the price of a used one, it hard to find a nicer and better performing car and for that reason its becoming a very desirable used car. Maybe more so than when it was new.
Actually, if the back spoiler is deployed on a Jag in a parking lot, you should assume it had an electrical malfunction that the dealer hasn't been able to fix after 3 visits in the last 2 months.
Great video! This car was fantastic when we owned the pre-facelift of it, it was an absolute unit! The reliability of the engine kills me, twice it has blown for me and once the SC. Keep that warranty handy! Despite that I miss it since switching to the C8, great car overall but the raw power of that F-type R was something else.
Had a 2016 R, pushed it hard for over 65k miles! Thankfully never had any issues. Most reliable performance car IMO. Funny thing is I borrowed a 2014 camry and it left me stranded lol
I've love Jaguars for 60 years. A friend let me drive his restored '74 E-Type back in the early 1990's - and it was awesome. If I ever win the lottery, an F-Type will land in my garage. There's always a faster, better performer, but cool is cool.
Really not that hard given that 911s are everywhere. To the point where they are no longer special at all. Speaks to how great of a car they are to be sure, but there is something to be said for rarity for sure. These Jags, especially the most modern variants, are pretty epic in terms of the overall package (looks, handling, power, sound, reliability). I own a 2024 R and there is no doubt in my mind that the current misinformation around reliability makes people scared to buy them. The hit or miss dealership experiences adds as well I suppose (there is certainly some truth to that). Add in the relatively higher depreciation compared to other options and it becomes a low volume vehicle despite its chops. It's a shame. The true appreciation for these cars will come later.
My GF owns one of the 2014 XKR-S GT sold in Canada. I’m a Porsche 911 fanboy but her Jag is in a league of its own. Such an amazing driving experience.
I very much agree with the opinion on the styling, when I first saw the new design I was not overly impressed and immediately looked up the much loved old design to compare. Suddenly it looked old even though it always looked great.
As "dated" as the gorgeous original front end may look, I think it would've been more profitable to stay truer to it's design and keep a wider range of engines available, with at least 2 options so that us poorer folk could have a hope and a dream of one day being able to afford one, even if it didn't end up being the full bore V8 big cat that we all want. With such a drastic change to the front end (while still good looking), I feel like anything that has the orignal styling will be worth significantly more than used examples of this design once they become "old".
Everyone save those with a new car in hand prefer the older car....silly move. The older car was unique..this is audi/mazda ish. Not bad, but not special. Look how great Porsche does with their "old" headlight with LED's....they could have done the same sort of evolution of the old front end....
I just bought one of the last ones, with a huge discount, instead of 162.000€ I had to pay 116.000,€ inkl. Taxes, 575HP 5.0l V8, nothing else like that available in the EU for that price
Have a 2016 with awd, v6 S. Better looking and the gauges actually are sort of cool with differing fonts...very track car. Amazing, beautiful, fast, sounds F1, all one could need on the street....the R has "too much" power and one has to always watch it...the 400 is about as much as you can use safely all day every day. And the 2016 had the hugging adjustable side bolsters.... I added wireless carplay and now it is just perfect. Way better looking than a 911 and can take a big suitcase for long trips with easy... Best sleeper supercar out there. Oh, CPO for 2 years when bought in April for under 40k usd.....the best deal out there by far. Colors to get for long term: green, dark blue, silver. Done. It gets a lot of love from everyone. 911's don't get love. Nor do caymans/boxters. If you buy used well, you are way, way ahead. Had a 996tt track modded with ohlins. Prefer life with the F-type. Not heavy feeling. The only thing I wish it had was better front corner visibility - but as you go hard the car shrinks and feele more and more nimble. Under 30mph it feels big. Repeat, under 40k out the door with 2 years of warranty. Deal of the century. Likely not cheap to keep but wow what a car. Not everyone has one too....and I like that. No, it is not a track car. It is the car you get after you tire of the track car and realize you want a car to drive long, winding roads with on the way to something special (and every day). The F type makes grocery shopping a cool experience. 1 year later. No issues at all. More reliable than my subaru's, porsches, and volvo's. 2 years later. Still, no issues. Tuned to 550hp on e85 and 475hp on 93 ....usually in normal gas mode and it is wonderful....just about 500hp, utteryly reliable, and under 40k. Tune and metal coolant pipe preventive maintenance and fluids and no issues. Lovely car.....way more reliable than a 911....and frankly way more timeless looking. I plan to keep it.
Maybe I have bad taste, well, yeah that’s more than likely. But i like this front end more. I always felt like the F-Type had something off about the front end, and this Facelift fixed it for me, I do think it could look MORE like the previous gen, but the new headlights? MAN! they’re sexy.
So I'm guessing you find the headlights of a Hyundai sexy too? The new headlights look so generic and blends in with every other car on the road. There's nothing unique about the new face.
Still extremely pretty car. But I just see R8 in the front now On an unrelated note, it's great to see you guys back in Ontario. After doing so many brilliant reviews in the US, i was worried we were going to lose you guys to the Americans, as you guys have had some amazing success lately. You're both national treasures!
Fun fact..JLR pulled the pops and bangs starting 2018 to reduce warranty claims related to the cats and o2 sensors…although they say it’s because too many owners were complaining about the noise.
That camera angle showing the dashboard is awsome. I haven’t seen you use it before in extra throttle house, but i think many people would prefer to see that angle some time during the review. It’s usually neglegted in many car reviews; only the ‘autotop nl guy uses it. I’ve watched pretty much all of your vids btw. Thank you
Price is a really good deal, considering that we are living in a world of $100,000 Ford trucks!! I remember people saying they couldn't afford a $60,000 to $80,000 BMW or Mercedes but look where we're at now...$80,000 Dodge Rams/F150's/Silverados
Couldn’t agree more, these are actually pretty obtainable used, and with the styling of the 2018 and older models along with the factory pops and bangs, I would absolutely love to own one some day after college and hopefully med school. A guy at our church drives a dark red f type R and it’s unmistakably beautiful.

Problem with the new f type is the main appeal of getting an f type was the sound and looks. And both have been dulled down, you'd buy an f type over a 911 because you wanted the amazing looks and the ridiculous sound which it now lacks

Probably went into the dealer for repairs immediately after this video. Great car, as long as you have a Porsche to drive when this one spends WAY too much time in the shop. My son used to work at our local JLR dealer and told me that the reliability of these things sucks. Most Jag dealers stay alive on shop profits and not on the miniscule sales.
So fun fact my dad has daily driven his 2018 ftype r for a year and has never had any sort of repairs. What is costing him the most is replacing the tires frequently. Also he is surprised by the fact that he can get nearly 30mpg on the highway. So, it has been a pretty great purchase so far.
C5 corvette is a fraction of the money, has a 200,000 mile engine and can be fixed with on the shelf autozone truck parts and a hammer when/if it does break and has pop up headlights. 911s don’t go to 200k, aren’t DIY friendly and parts are hard to get and very expensive
Factor in confirmation bias. Ask any dealer mechanic if he thinks the cars they sell are reliable. By definition, all they see are problems. That's true for ALL brands, including Porsche.
@@kurtbilinski1723 Absolute nonsense. My 991 C2S has had only normal maintenance for 8 years. Brakes and tires are pricey, but modern 911's are very reliable.
That interior is the same as my 2014. The digital gauges are new, to save a few thousand bucks. The Jag has 11L displacement under boost, the Vette has a tiny 6.2L. The F will easily gap a C8 by 50 car lengths off the line.
Same. Never a big fan of the previous front end design, with the lower air intakes sticking more outward on both sides then the headlights it just doesn't look right. The new one to me is a perfect blend of understated elegance and aggression, and it actually matches the rear end design better than the old one. Love it!
Different style cars. Ones built for precision, the other is built for fun. Doesn't mean a 911 isn't fun, it just doesn't evoke feelings like a V8 F Type. Certainly had fun with my 991 4S vert, but the car generally felt more clinical than my 18 F Type R. I'd have loved something that perfectly split the difference of both down the middle, but nothing in that price range exists like that.

So if you see a elderly Asian man parking his White F-Type with Red interior in Richmond and the spoilers up, he's not a douchebag (at least not to his nephew)
awesome!
Your uncle sounds like a cool dude 😅

I've owned a 911 C4S and an F-Type R. Very different driving experiences. Yes, the 911 is, overall, a more comprehensive package and better driver's car. But (1) 911s are a dime-a-dozen where I live and (2) the F-Type is a monster all the time; it doesn't have an 'off' button for its unabashed childishness so it's a blast to drive no matter where you're going.
Well..... Porsches are more reliable and yes, the better driving car. There is no reason to choose a Jag over a Porsche.

This is an absolute bucket list car for me. I will own one of these one day. I would much rather have one of these over a 911. Oddly enough I'd rather have the first gen because I think it looks better but I'll settle for one of these too
DITTO!
yeah they really fucked up the headlights on this gen its such a bummer
I think the selling point of any car similar to a 911 is if they have a larger engine. The V8 is absolutely the reason to get this over a 911.
If you want the loud hey look at me motor this is for sure the one. If you're a guy who wants amazing quality and an iconic shape you get a 911.
Same I love the new lights
Oh damn the pepperage farms and the Amber Heard jokes. You guys are the funniest yet most informative auto review channel. Can’t get enough.
The value proposition of the c8 corvette is that it competes with all of the cars you named above

The 2018 face-lift (Sport 400) is definitely the sweet spot for me for these. It's like the first Gen face-lift r8, the lighting elements clean up the front while keeping the nice lines and proportions of thr original concept

I was literally just thinking this, 1 year later, looking to buy an F-Type. I looked and a 2019 SVR here is now at least twice as much as an R... That's not really worth it. The Rs are a crazy car at the price. They didn't get cheap though, just less expensive.
When I fill mine up - I consider it like when I visit the amusement arcade card refill station. I am just buying fun. FANTASTIC car.
Currently have had a Italian Red '17 F Type R for over a year now. Still love it like the first day i bought it. I turn around to look at it before i go in the house every day.
I still do that with my 07 XKR. Somehow they still haven't ruined those truly classic lines.
@@life_of_riley88 I agree. Timeless beauties
Working at JLR it's great to see these honest reviews guys.
I do like the look of the old one better but that v8 sounds amazing.
The problem is the old one (2016+) had an even better V8 sound, also had AWD and only had about 25 less HP. Honestly I don't see too many reasons to buy the new one when only the displays were updated and the lights which arguably look worse than before, and it only sounds good after 3500 RPM or so.
@@iSOBigD old one is better looking plain and simple

The problem is, the front end now looks like every other car on the road. It has lost its unique look and just looks so bland and generic now (face).
I'm torn, I do like the older face and I resisted this one to begin with but it has grown on me - it's just a shame that every other car has the same look now.
The Supercharged V6 ones also sounded great. Very vintage Jaguar noise. This has always been a great car!
Where does Jaguar get their v6s from tho ?
Very F1. Have one...prefer the v6 banshee sound to the burble mustang big block sound. Just me.
I definitely preferred the V6 to the V8 tbh
@@josephmachado6081 same, it also pays respect to the e-type. V6 and Exhaust tips down the middle

This is such a great car. I wish Jaguar got the hype and attention it deserved.
I feel the same way, I have a Ftype V6 S and I prefer it over my M4, so much more fun. I am not a track guy so I feel right at home in the Jaaaaag.
Unfortunately the Internet loves to slag on Jag so that doesn’t help.
You're missing the big picture
Less attention means it depreciates quicker and we can buy them for cheaper if going for second hands

This one looks thoroughly anonymous--or like an AMG GT with less interesting curves.
looks like the new 400z. not sure what that says about it whether its good or bad considering the 400z is brand new.
Such underrated cars.
FINALLY🥳🥳 love this car.
Btw, just bought a kia stinger and absolutely love it. Time to tell everyone on the planet until I start talking to trees.
I have one of the 1,000 or so Manual transmission F-types sold in America. LOVE it.
I have a 2016 awd R , just got my down pipes tune and pulley from vap. Heard great things about products looking forward to it!
The AMG GT is pig ugly so you made a good choice. It looks hideous.
Hats off to them
I’ve owned one for years and love the car. I rarely see one on the road which is a bonus to me. Sadly they depreciate horribly which I expected.

That noise...........luv it. Worth the price. Reminds me of the original C55 I had a chance to drive in the early 2000s.
They really messed up the headlights on this most recent model
I have sold my 2016 F-Type to my brother last year and have changed to a F-Pace SVR with the same V8. Not the top speed, the way and the feeling is better than everything else. On each corner you can see a Porsche, Mercedes and a BMW, but a Jag not. Actually I look for a E-Type V12 to complete my Cars.
“It’s not a hellcat, more like a purgatory cat” 😂😂😂
Love my 2019 R. Still has the exhaust note. So much fun to drive. The roads in Hawaii absolutely suck so a 911 just wasn’t driveable at all. I use a Porsche SUV as a daily driver and the F Type when I want to have fun.
I think one thing that is misses is that the F-type is having a massive resurgence on 2nd hand market. For the price of a used one, it hard to find a nicer and better performing car and for that reason its becoming a very desirable used car. Maybe more so than when it was new.
Perhaps it’s like the Maseratis & people don’t trust used Jags engines & their reliability?
Actually, if the back spoiler is deployed on a Jag in a parking lot, you should assume it had an electrical malfunction that the dealer hasn't been able to fix after 3 visits in the last 2 months.
Great video! This car was fantastic when we owned the pre-facelift of it, it was an absolute unit! The reliability of the engine kills me, twice it has blown for me and once the SC. Keep that warranty handy! Despite that I miss it since switching to the C8, great car overall but the raw power of that F-type R was something else.

I've love Jaguars for 60 years. A friend let me drive his restored '74 E-Type back in the early 1990's - and it was awesome. If I ever win the lottery, an F-Type will land in my garage. There's always a faster, better performer, but cool is cool.
Man those upshifts are lightning quick and crisp. Just bam bam bam. Love that. Also I think this car is more special that a 911 cause it's more rare.
I have the 2014 V6 red. Still love it.
My GF owns one of the 2014 XKR-S GT sold in Canada. I’m a Porsche 911 fanboy but her Jag is in a league of its own. Such an amazing driving experience.
F Type design (regardless of year) is timeless
I very much agree with the opinion on the styling, when I first saw the new design I was not overly impressed and immediately looked up the much loved old design to compare. Suddenly it looked old even though it always looked great.
Great James humor in just the first 50 seconds. I can’t wait to finish the whole piece!
It's like they tried to fit it with Audi headlights.

MAN! they’re sexy.
exactly the same - find this so much more stunning
So I'm guessing you find the headlights of a Hyundai sexy too? The new headlights look so generic and blends in with every other car on the road. There's nothing unique about the new face.

On an unrelated note, it's great to see you guys back in Ontario.
Bastards, 2 years of asking for this and 1 month after i sold mine. Miss it, but too many mechanical issues to trust out of warranty imo.
And I'm retarded and bought a 2nd one
I have an ftype R and love it!!
The 2018 facelift was the best iteration of this car visually. Still looks modern.
Thank you
Hard to beat a rowdy V8. Especially in today's vehicles

No replacement for Displacement. Add a supercharger for punch when you want it RIGHT FRIGGING NOW. lol.
@@scottcrawford3745 that car has a supercharger
I ❤️ my 2015 Jag F type convertible
Price is a really good deal, considering that we are living in a world of $100,000 Ford trucks!! I remember people saying they couldn't afford a $60,000 to $80,000 BMW or Mercedes but look where we're at now...$80,000 Dodge Rams/F150's/Silverados
Couldn’t agree more, these are actually pretty obtainable used, and with the styling of the 2018 and older models along with the factory pops and bangs, I would absolutely love to own one some day after college and hopefully med school. A guy at our church drives a dark red f type R and it’s unmistakably beautiful.
The 2 reasons I won't buy one are the following:
1st Most important the Crossmembers under the car Rust within 4 to 5 years 2 years if driven in the snow with salted roads. Parts are made in India and they skipped on some rust proofing Platings and or Coating
2nd No 3rd Pedal 6 Speed Manual Transmission. I would buy it in Pearl White with a Blue Haze. Great Review 👦🏻👍🏻🏁🏎
Mine is from 2015, none of the issues you speak of, had a ramp inspection and 0% rust. Been driven with winter tires in winter as well...so yah, pretty reliable if you ask me.
@@robertcalinescu78 Awesome, now I wonder it could get the 3rd Pedal 6 Speed Manual Transmission, and handle for the the Parking Break
🙋👍🏁🏎 option without a custom conversion cost. Hopefully, next year
Problem with the new f type is the main appeal of getting an f type was the sound and looks. And both have been dulled down, you'd buy an f type over a 911 because you wanted the amazing looks and the ridiculous sound which it now lacks
💯
Still looks better than any base 911 Carrera ,still sounds really good, before the exhaust was obnoxious now it is what it should have been from the beginning ,much more symphony than shouting which i prefer
@@anandpushkar7510 yeah I guess its preference, most people prefer the obnoxious sound because it's unique. It's a good GT car still
@@STRENGTH444 i agree , personally I would like to enjoy my car but not by disturbing the people around me , a cold start on those old f type V8 wakes up the entire neighborhood lol
@@anandpushkar7510 A car for grownups now. Yup.
I recently purchased the new F Type and just love driving it. Its a real beast and a head turner.
@@Iamthestig42069 A fraction of the price and a fraction of the cool factor and performance.
I'm glad Im not the only car geek who has become mystifyingly obsessed with depp/heard
Lmao the Amber Heard joke
The V8 S and the R went on sale in Jan 2014. Both carried the same power plant but with different ECM programs.
I’m buying the 911 over this 10 times outta 10.
And I am not.
Nice to see Thomas rocking an Omega SMP. Great choice! 👍
why Thomas looks like Blake Shelton? he looks a bit american
Its the clothes and his iconic hair
That interior is the same as my 2014. The digital gauges are new, to save a few thousand bucks. The Jag has 11L displacement under boost, the Vette has a tiny 6.2L. The F will easily gap a C8 by 50 car lengths off the line.
Maybe Im weird, but i actually like this front better than the old f-types front
I do too I was kinda surprised they called it unattractive compared to the old one
Same. Never a big fan of the previous front end design, with the lower air intakes sticking more outward on both sides then the headlights it just doesn't look right. The new one to me is a perfect blend of understated elegance and aggression, and it actually matches the rear end design better than the old one. Love it!
Yes! 🙌🏾 finally a Jaguar review. I have been waiting patiently. I hope you do an actual F-Pace review since they redesigned them last year. 🤞🏾
Don't think it has a chance against the 911 - in terms of driving dynamics, comfort, quality, performance ...
By quality, I'm assuming you also include reliability.
I love the 911, but it's just not as fun as a top-trim F-Type (although still very fun).
A Jag review! Been waiting for this. Keep up the stellar work gentlemen. Cheers from North Carolina.
Ok…….Now buy the 911.
No no no no
No thanks
The mega pint of wine joke was great! 😂😂😂
big fan when they first came out. the V6 on full chat sounds 👌
Best first minute of an ETH so far. Love it.
Ohhh yessss i have been asking for this at least it got an extra throttel house review
Thomas rocking that Omega SeaMaster Professional on a Nato strap... Are you into watches as well?
