Very impressive accomplishment. I trail run on the AT quite a bit in Virginia and it can be great and frustrating at the same time. With the rocks and the constant focus that you need to not injure yourself it can wear on you. Anyone who can do that for days on end is a mental giant. The fact that the human body can even handle that is amazing.
I mean it when I say you became one of my biggest hiking role models when I heard about you. I cried because I was so excited and inspired. I nanny and I taught my kids about you. I bring up your accomplishment to everyone I can. You deserve all the praise you’ve gotten and more.

Your accomplishment/story kind of reminds me of basic training in the military (in a good way) for myself and most others but it was more than likely less stressful than your adventure. For the first couple of weeks, you hear whimpering all night, everyone regretting their choice, people talking about just quitting, grueling physical running and exercises, blisters and pain, 2 minutes to eat, etc for 80 days. Fortunately, we had our TI's who were there to make us not only men and women but, after the fact you realized they were your support crew who helped you make it through! I've felt what you feel and it will take about a year to decompress but you'll do it! You are a very strong woman!
Congratulations! Your Story of attempting, then Thru hiking and finally setting the FKT is even more inspiring! Your humble approach and acknowledgment of your Support Team is awesome! Iceman personally helped me at a difficult time during my 2018 Thru Hike as a nobody, and here he is helping elite athletes such as yourself! You are so correct that the community is what sets the AT apart and makes this trail so wonderful to experience! Finally, Give yourself Grace as you transition through your post trail celebration! I saw myself in you as you spoke of your struggle with Brain Fog which is as big a part of post trail depression as torn up feet and depleted body mass! Once again, congratulations on your personal achievement and your new task as another great champion of the Appalachian Trail. As Ode says,you and your support team are true Appalachian Royalty!
