As someone who teaches people how to drive trains, you’re pretty spot on.
“Bro just go when you need to go and stop when you need to stop” thanks for the $150,000 a year for my skills.

In all seriousness, what the hell is the reason for train drivers getting paid hella money?
Like what am I missing? I assume it’s probably like a year or so to learn, but what makes it so lucrative? The responsibility?
The only thing I see how it is like that is you’re responsible for millions if not hundreds of millions of cargo (don’t know if they ever ship like gold or something). Other than that, it seems like learning to drive something (albeit probably complicated) shouldn’t be so crazy in pay.
I’m from the states btw. Any insight into this?

You want to know the real reason?
What other jobs are there where you're guaranteed to eventually kill someone? People jump in front of trains on a weekly basis.
If they don't say why the train is delayed, you know why it's delayed. If it's a line fault they'll say. If a train breaks down, they'll say.
      When it's a jumper it's just a delay.
So yeah, you go when they say go. Stop when they say stop. And try to close your eyes when someone jumps on the tracks.
      Ez money.

@@GeoJesse horrible roster is one of the factors. I'm working night shift tonight. No idea my start time, but it will be somewhere near midnight. No idea what time I'll be home either. Somewhere between 5am and 1pm tomorrow.
I wouldn't put up with that for $80,000 a year.
Also one of our big trains carrying a full load is worth something 25 million dollars. The assessments to get a job have increased a lot over the years they won't just let anyone drive anymore. Back before the 80's if you could read and write you could be employed.
Driving the train is actually the easiest part of the job. Learning everything else is the hard part.

Gen Z need to take the Hotel Nightshift in the middle of nowhere pill.
I'm 28 do three hours of hotel laundry, 1 hour of breakfast setup and the other 6 hours I do fuck all other than work on my personal skills and watch films and shows and use my time outside of work to sleep and catch up with family. You want this position here are the steps:
    1. Get a Hotel Porter job, carrying bags and shit
    2. Be responsible for like a year to trick them into thinking you're responsible
    3. Make friends with the current night porter, usually an old geaser
    4. Express interest in wanting to do nightshifts and bring it up whenever possible
    5. Old geaser needs a holiday, volunteer to cover, manager who woupd have to cover thanks his lucky stars your there to fill in because he likes his sleep schedule he's developed for the past ten years
    6. Do the Nightshift, if anyone asks say its hard work and look exhausted to trick them
    7. Enjoy the easy life and the permanent ability to put nights on your cv and only apply to easy night watch jobs

I'm 21 and I was fired from a job at 18, at that time it really sucked and I was angry towards the former bossman for a while. However in hindsight it gave me a different view on how I should conduct myself at the past jobs I've had since and now. I put a whole lot more effort into work and I ask more questions if I am unclear about something, before I was just smoking bongs before work and putting the bare minimum effort in... who would have thought that getting high before work was a bad Idea right? smh, I would blame the circumstances in my life that "compelled" me to do such a stupid thing. Though it bloody sucked being fired and I felt a lot of shame... it taught me a lot. The only complaint I have about that whole situation is I wish the former bossman told me I was being let go at the end of my shift, not the start of it... I wouldn't have been moping around that whole shift otherwise lol.

The irony of this is that in all the schools I've worked at over the last 8-odd years, "resilience" has been, if not literally one of the school's key motto words (e.g. "School name: resilience, kindness, curiosity"), a HUGE part of the curriculum next to maths and literacy. Maths, literacy, resilience, and then all the other subjects come after.

Ive only failed 1 interview because of a drug test which is my fault entirely (i was their first chouce😅). The only job ive failed at i got accused of stealing a chainsaw and then the person accusing me antagonsed me at work about it. Boss took their side since i was new. Which i unserstand but that person accusing me wouldnt even do their job properly. Getting the wrong parts for trucks every day. Not just once a week. Everyday.

Sometimes rejection is criminal and rather than complaining about the system. More fun to make a complete mockery of the system and pursue retribution relentlessly or at least until Peter Costello and Nick Falloon are brought to justice.

I seriously think it takes a lot of strength to avoid mental gymnastics and just face the truth. I think all of those Reddit Incels are always making up stories of why they can’t root because in the end they don’t wanna face the fact that it requires actual effort and rejection to get laid.

The list of people who get nostalgic for the 80s:
    1) Straight White guys who wouldn't have been openly and bruitally discriminated against.
    2) List over.
There's a reason as to why self help books are not 80s themed kid, it was not a time we should attempt to emulate if helping people is your goal. The discrimination was astonishing looking back, actual hate speech and open racism was seen as a bit edgy. You need to give your head a wobble and listen to people who were actually there because it was mostly brown everything, bad haircuts and bigotry.

I see the truth in your words, however as someone older or/ the same age in America, understanding from being one of those nasty people with chemical imbalances. Almost like being the same as times being a "subhuman" homeless person in hyper capitalism and sloppy self help, that you get used to, avert your eyes, or try to help...the help being a bullet wound and a lobotomy with a bandaid. You make good points but all I can hear when in America just dealing with the system and the flaws those without the depth of understanding the human condition enough that don't actively becoming unapologetic lunatics used by economic "leaders" kind of come off to me as you being a cheeky cunt(i normally like this) with a different way to frame the false promises of the American dream and pull yourself by your bootstraps. Love either way because you talk about the building of mental fortitude. Gaining the building blocks to rewire your mind. I don't understand this generation war of identity other than it being groups of people who fight, submit, or become a part of the problem in America. Hope it helps whoever needs it.
