Guardian Forest and High Charity are my absolute holy grails of cut Halo content, and I would absolutely LOVE to get a faithful restoration of them, even if it was just partial.
Wow, besides the cut guardian level, I had no clue this was Bungie’s original plan/idea for the game. This makes sense because I remember how people working at Bungie would describe the game in the forums on Bungie’s website back during the game’s EARLY development. And THIS lines up with the grand scale/“epicness” they would describe. This is much more accurate to what I envisioned/anticipated. I remember on their weekly update postings they’d put out every Friday, they mentioned how most of the earth levels were directly connected and how vast and expansive the game/levels were going to be along with having a drastic increase in the shear size of some of the battles compared to the previous games. I get why they made the cuts and decisions, but my god, this would’ve been fucking incredible.
I would've loved for seeing some Scandinavian area done, to see where Mjolnir armour was made, or tested, sort of a poetic thing, as produce and test a product made in place where name originated from. And I imagine a lot people would've loved having big forest maps, where elites or brutes would stalk you around, having open fights, but also tight spaces thanks to the trees. Could have so much potential
I remember an old Bungie guy said they cut the Forerunner City because “we didn’t want to humanize the Forerunners” I’d say the Terminals did that on its own, but I digress. This bandage has been torn off now. You know what this means? If the Leak saying 343 (which has fully new Staff) is remaking Halo 1 to 3, they can finally Add this Cut Forerunner City and the other Cut levels! The Books have made Forerunner Living Spaces sound amazing: Rooms that are Larger on the Inside, Doors that Teleport you to Rooms with no doors, Programmable Metal allowing for full customization. Warden Eternal reveals that Forerunner Ancillas basically see Master Chief and the Spartan 2’s as being the Equivalent to Warrior-Servants. As Warden Eternal refers to Chief as a “Warrior-Servant” while he refers to Agent Locke as merely a “Spartan” Knowing this, when Chief walks into a Forerunner Loving Space, it could “come to life” and Consoles, Furniture and maybe AIs could just appear out of thin air, and disappear when he leaves!
@@def3ndr887yes I’m sure 343 will say “ok fuck all our work, let’s add back the thing solely people who hate us want.” Besides Humans and Forerunners are still the same species in a more fleshed out way.
@@def3ndr887 i mean some people worship the human forerunners thing like a Religion, so the “Orthodox” Comparison fits. It’s their Great Journey. But all the stuff I mentioned about Forerunner Living Spaces was made by 343. Bungie didn’t really make anything of that sort. Besides they already recanonized Humans and Forerunners being the same species, they just evolved in a different way. They aren’t going to just remove all the work that they made.
Well the city gave away that humans were forerunners, Look at how similar the structures are too the earth ones. Also the terminals were written by frank who doesn't know anything about halo lore and thinks halo 3 ended with a truce with the covenant
@@jurassicarkjordanisgreat1778 Frank is an original Bungie dev so i think he knows plenty. It did end with a Truce. In this very video he said he would have Glassed Earth entirely if it weren’t for the Arbiter. And Forerunner structure’s really doesn’t look like human stuff.
Honestly if they were to actually make a Halo 3 Anniversary but with these extra environments and enemies and missions and whatnot interspersed between things so we have a remaster of the things we got while also getting the cut content along with it I would…..well I would have a lot less of a social life I’ll say that. The guardian forest and forerunner city areas just look so goddamn cool and that whole high charity sequence sounds awesome and let me just say if the sequence with the Stratosentinels looked half as cool as it does in my head just based on the description it would probably be my favorite thing from any video game.
Halo 3 and RS are my tied GOAT games. I really hope we get a Halo 3 remake, according to the original ambitious specs, at some point in the future. We got OSRS, anything is possible!
So tsavo township was probably a complete level that was in between tsavo highway and the storm. In the cutscene for the storm you roll up with a bunch of hogs and marines so you were probably suppose to fight through an industrial town, get reinforcements and then the storm starts
0:52 wow bungie used this halo 3 concept for destiny 2 final shape, seeing the big bad enemy at this very far away tower in the distance where the final fight will be and we have to traverse the world to get to
Halo 3 is my favorite game in the series and it introduced me to Halo in the first place and hearing how the game was originally supposed to be makes me pray that if it were to get a Remake I would love for all those concepts and ideas to be implemented!
The reasoning for scrapping the Forerunner City level, to keep the mystery of the Forerunners, is yet another example of how well Bungie understood Halo and 343 just didn't. Shoving a ton of Forerunner and Promethean lore into our faces in Halo 4 and 5 took away so much of the mystery and legendary status that Bungie built around the Halo universe's past. And 343 still haven't learned, because now they've added yet more mythical universe history lore through the Harbringer and then immediately blew their load by showing us its design and powers...and then promptly letting us kill it. Jesus.
I sincerely want them to bring back the menu screens. I miss those menu screens. They were only possibly outdone by valves evolving main menu screens that changed through out the game but the loading screens. I still remember having a copy of halo 3 that was having issues running and noticing the halo finish building right after I installed it trying to get the game to run. Halo 4's loading screen felt disappointing in comparison as halo 3 acted as a clear marker. also I knew so little about halo that I actually thought the pillar of autumn was in halo 4 . I feel embarrassed about the misconceptions I had
I like it. Bungie's last ride with Master Chief. They should've made the campaign as large as possible. I always thought Halo 3 was just cut content from Halo 2 with some filler and culminating in the defeat of the Covenant and the flood. This is amazing, thanks for sharing
I don't think it would be possible, the halo 2 uncut used alot of stuff that was already developed in the betas. it looks like a lot of this stuff never made it out of the concept phase.
It was really short and there were really poor character interactions, with a lot of wasted potential. It’s sad because game 3 didn’t even have the same time constraints as game 2, so even with all the time and money, there are big points of it that fell flat. It kinda just goes downhill as the story progresses and that’s disappointing. It’s a great game but there’s entirely too little of it, and the fates of half the characters feel really…kinda ridiculous :/
@@faefiercevulpine6990i feel the same way. I personally think 3 is the weakest of the trilogy halo 2 is better in nearly every way other than visuals imo. Especially when it comes to story and writing.
The campaign that we got for halo 3 was perfect, a monumental task that bungie had to prove to all of us, and still came on top, and is the best game bungie ever created!😃
@@alexanderrobins7497I mean to be fair Halo 3 is just the end cap that was originally meant to be the final act of Halo 2’s story, albeit heavily changed from the original vision back in 2004. Halo 2 established so much lore and added so much depth to both sides with the dual perspective that it would have been insanely difficult to live up to that while going back to just Chief’s perspective. I think it did well in serving as a climactic finale to the trilogy despite not having nearly as much going on as in Halo 2
@@theaverageclownhole3369 I understood that at the time too. Apparently another reason was because Joseph Staten left Bungie for a while after the burnout from Halo 2, then returned mid-way through Halo 3’s development. Some people like Marty O’Donnell were unsure if he would even return.
Thank you, HX. My goodness this would have been glorious and…all time on the list of game experiences. Yeah, if they have remaster they need to retro the story with all of this.
The things i'd do to be able to live those moments again... It had been like 3 years and Halo 2 ended with the biggest cliffhanger/plot twist in gaming history, then Halo 3 came out and i was 13 and having the time of my life finally playing "the final chapter" 7 years after i first played Halo CE. What the hell happened to the world after like 2010 that suddenly made everything "uninteresting"? Is it social media? Is it just what happens when you grow up? I just miss the Halo 3 days.
Oh my... this original Halo 3 campaign would've really been something else! I doubt we'd get any of this in a remaster, but mods are always on the table for these kind of things. I mean, look at SPV3 👀
Glad you've flushed these levels out. For the past several years I've been sketching ideas for my hypothetical Halo game. Mine would follow a team of Spartan IIIs like noble team after H3 but, before H4 in the outskirts of UNSC space. The game would open with my Spartans, "Gallant Team".Who would be inspecting the ONI listening site, Ellipsis Station just above the world of Periphery IV. While abourd Ellipsis Station they are informed by the stations crew that they went radio silent when ONI probes detected Covenant ships passing in the vicinity once an ancient foreign object was recovered and accidentally triggered by ONIs agents. Soon after this revelation a Covenant fleet appears in space above the planet and are engaged by UNSC forces. While engaging the "Covenant" forces onboard the station you start to realize theses "Covenant have seemingly never encountered humans before!? While enacting Cole Protocol on Ellipsis Station and the grounside site, Tycho Station, you learn they are the "Ascendent". A sect of the Covenant that have been forcefully expelled by the Covenant for blasphemy against the High Council. Later the player discovers through playing as an Ascended Elite known as "Thovu the Faithful" that the leaders of the Ascendent known as the "Sublime" hate the Forerunners and believe them to be the enemies of the ones the Sublime worship. There's more but, suffice it to say learning about these cut levels a couple of years ago inspired me to work elements of these levels into my game concept. Now I just have to get into programming and modding. 😂
A couple years ago my mother-in-law visited the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Voi, as part of a Conservancy group as she is an environmental attorney. I further cemented the fact to her that I wasn’t worthy of her daughter, when I started nerding out over the fact of where she was, and what she was close to in Halo.
Halo 3 is a game that makes me feel the same way Fallout: New Vegas does, in that it’s one of my favourite games of all time but god damn do I wish it got another year or so of development time cause with more time it could have been substantially better.
I feel like the cut earth levels were warranted since I never thought the levels on earth (besides the storm) were nearly as interesting as the once’s on the Ark. Also I would have kept Guardian Forest and Forerunner city except they would be combined or they would both take place between The Ark and The Covenant. Stretching out the city section would completely destroy the pacing of the Covenant’s final section because Truth is about to fire the Rings so there is no time to explore the city. I would keep High Charity how it was.
i for one am a buzzkill and say i totally understand bungie. even now when i played sierra-storm i was all time thinking "soooo... when does the story start?" you spend half of the game doing really mundane enemy elimination. having more of that with the same lousy prophet speeches and so on wouldnt have helped at all. the latter part of the game however is really rushed and i dont think the things in this version would have helped at all. you see flood on earth for 1 level and then during just 2 levels in space you resolve the coventant alliance and truth story, 2 more and flood is finished too. dont even get me started on how the sinister mastermind Truth from halo2 now has absolutely no game and dies like a wimp, or how little gravemind does to stop you despite having all the flood at his disposal and knowing where you are in high charity and halo. the end part of this would probably have helped the game though. more setup, truth with powerful moment, more sensible change from ark to cortana and some more. compared to halo 1 and 2 its just weak. every level in halo 1 is important for the plot and lore, and 2 is downright epic with the coventant feud so i dont think adding these to a remaster would be anything but "oh, cool extra content, i guess"
I really hope if they do a remake of the first three games, they take it further and implement these ideas. Imagine spending more time seeing the space battle against truths fleet with the big sentinels. That got me thinking about the cutscene in halo wars 2. Man there's so much potential.
Interesting about the ripping out of guardian eyes and using them as weapons. They ended up recycling that concept in Destiny by the players (guardians) doing that to some Vex units.
Bungie DID manage to incorporate one multiplayer map section into a campaign level. Rather small but it’s there (ONI: Sword Base/Sword Base from Halo: Reach). If none hadn’t already noticed until now, now that I bring this up.
Not just one...pretty much every level! (Though I've always wondered if it was designed campaign first or mp first) You have the first covenant encounter area from Winter Contingency, Oni Sword base interior + exterior and the Package's AA towers and underground base, Nightfall's dam and water pump station, Tip of Spear's Spire, Exodus beachhead, (nothing from New Alexandria), and the shipyard + pelican landing pad area for PoA
@@justinnyugen7015Marcus Lehto said that he designed both the campaign and multiplayer maps consecutively, and it was a real design and technical challenge.
After watching your “we need to talk about halo 3 anniversary” vid (aug 18?) I could not say why you would ever want a remake without the fleshed out floodvoi+ship and the whole guardian “episode,” when it would show so much of the awesome scale of what a forerunner ARK could be… love the videos, it’s the primary way I get through my cardio!
Just when you thought Halo 3 was already awesome, then you find it originally was going to be that and even more. This reminds me a lot the Half Life 2 beta, many of the cut ideas are absolutely amazing and it's disappointing they were cut, but in the end we still got an incredible game. We definitely need Halo 3 Uncut.
I have to get this off my chest. H3's (*20*) year anniversary is literally around the corner! 343 has a monumental title like The Master Chief Collection and we're not utilizing it to its fullest potential, WHY!? Make H3 Anniversary, Put split-screen co-op in H5 and Infinite like it always should have had, add it all on MCC. then you have your entire player base all in one place and you have more time to develop the next main line Halo. I mean am I the fucking crazy person here???
@General83 hopefully. After all that coverage about a soft reboot of Halo CE. That just seems so dumb to me. But what do I know I guess. All I can do is cross my fingers for H3 anniversary at the very least.
It will be garbage if 343 Incompetencies is making it, just like every thing else they did compared to Bungie’s (and Creative Assembly’s) Halo Games. Let Certain Affinity and/or ID Software make it instead.
The only thing realistic locations we got was the galaxy in the background of space, indicating that somewhere deep in space the planets or rings exist but a solid theory easter egg because in 1 mission a ODST comments about the galaxy but was cut off like he knows something that we don't.
My dream Halo Game is a full remake of Halo 2/3 put together as originally intended wit most of the cut content reinserted & the rest can be reused for Future installments like Halo 7
3:20. It seems more likely to me that the name “Rebel Base” is a reference to Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Crow’s Nest as it is has a somewhat similar theme to the Hoth battle anyway: base has been discovered by the overwhelming enemy force, time to evacuate it while holding off the enemy as long as possible.
The ground shots of forerunner city look a tad mass effect inspired specifically halofied ilos tbh. Though if 343 decided to finally take a break and create a stand alone side story tangentially set on the ark post halo wars 2. A set of spartan 4's come across the forerunner city and with a team of onboard scientists ply it's depths and networks for some tech to re engineer into existing unsc tech etc etc.
Fuckkkk. And everyone thought the cuts from halo 2 were bad. This game would have been so much more epic it’s crazy. Every one of these cut levels sounds like the same tier as the ark and the covenant. My lord
The Halo 3 we got was still incredible, but I wish they were able to incorporate these concepts into the final game. The complete lack of a proper fight against the Gravemind was a little disappointing, and I also wondered why Guardian took place in a dense forest canopy not seen anywhere else in the game.
Has anyone at bungie/343 ever cofirmed the name of the replacement ring... I've heard people call it 08, I've heard 04B, and the one from halo wars 2 was 04C
I don't doubt that someone in the community could build this out in the MCC. The amazing community is the one aspect of Halo that has endured all of these years 🙌🏼
you know, it'd be pretty cool if they were to remake Halo 3, instead of changing the direction of the campaign, have a small elite side squad venturing into remade cut levels similar to the arbiter missions of H2
there are some different ideas and changes and things in a super early halo 3 alpha, the first campaign playtest build, sadly the data was so fragmented that the missions couldnt be saved at all, but the main menu was able to be saved and the video cutscenes, most of it used concept art, someone actually uploaded all these too on youtube, lots of small things were changed and the strato sentinel makes a surprise appearance
I think the Rebel Base level is just referring to Crow’s Nest. I pretty sure its a just a Star Wars reference and not a reference to Innies. But thats just what I got
I don't know about you but forerunner city is exactly Ilos from mass effect 1. You finally discover the truth of the protheans by experiencing their desolate lost city

Halo 3 is the first halo game I played when I was about 9 years old. Played it over and over again and can’t believe we haven’t got a remake yet
I fell in love with the game when I was 7, I remember getting Halo 3 as my first game on my birthday. Not knowing It’d be a part of me today
If forerunner city was to ever be made in a halo 3 remake, damn. My body would levitate so high you’d need the space station to retrieve me.

“Microsoft’s profits have betrayed us…”
@@daveyjones7391 “Fool, he ordered me to do it.”
i feel proud knowing my city was in the game
As Warden Eternal refers to Chief as a “Warrior-Servant” while he refers to Agent Locke as merely a “Spartan”
Knowing this, when Chief walks into a Forerunner Loving Space, it could “come to life” and Consoles, Furniture and maybe AIs could just appear out of thin air, and disappear when he leaves!
I’m heavily orthodox in terms of Halo lore and I’d would love to see human-forerunner recanonized especially in that forerunner city
@@def3ndr887yes I’m sure 343 will say “ok fuck all our work, let’s add back the thing solely people who hate us want.”
Besides Humans and Forerunners are still the same species in a more fleshed out way.
Halo 3 uncut when?
4 seconds no views? Bro didnt fall off hes just ahead of the curve :) love you bro
Jesus.
We have a fan made "Halo 2 uncut", we need a Halo 3 uncut next! Restore all this cut content!
Vengeful Vadam needs to make a Halo 3 uncut
I don't think it would be possible, the halo 2 uncut used alot of stuff that was already developed in the betas. it looks like a lot of this stuff never made it out of the concept phase.
Although I love the Halo 3 story, I always felt like it was very short.
I loge how instead of a Chieftain they show a Brute Honor Guard with Truth and Miranda here 21:30
The campaign that we got for halo 3 was perfect, a monumental task that bungie had to prove to all of us, and still came on top, and is the best game bungie ever created!😃
The story felt so flat compared to Halo 2, but the gameplay and environments were pretty good.
@@theaverageclownhole3369
I understood that at the time too.
Dude you do such a good job breaking down and explaining such an expansive and complicated missing part of Halo, keep it up!
👌🏻
A level based on blood gulch😮😮😳😳! My oh my! If only we got that!! So much stuff they cut out😮!
The time limit was the thing that killed it :( I would have gladly waited how long they needed to make this
i for one am a buzzkill and say i totally understand bungie. even now when i played sierra-storm i was all time thinking "soooo... when does the story start?" you spend half of the game doing really mundane enemy elimination. having more of that with the same lousy prophet speeches and so on wouldnt have helped at all. the latter part of the game however is really rushed and i dont think the things in this version would have helped at all. you see flood on earth for 1 level and then during just 2 levels in space you resolve the coventant alliance and truth story, 2 more and flood is finished too. dont even get me started on how the sinister mastermind Truth from halo2 now has absolutely no game and dies like a wimp, or how little gravemind does to stop you despite having all the flood at his disposal and knowing where you are in high charity and halo.
the end part of this would probably have helped the game though. more setup, truth with powerful moment, more sensible change from ark to cortana and some more.
compared to halo 1 and 2 its just weak. every level in halo 1 is important for the plot and lore, and 2 is downright epic with the coventant feud
so i dont think adding these to a remaster would be anything but "oh, cool extra content, i guess"
Tbh hoping that one day halo modding gets to a a point where someone manages to add these sections into the game.
As long as it fits properly within the story. A lot of things were cut for brevity’s sake, like the back to back floodvoi and floodship levels.
A bunch of modders should get together and recreate this campaign near 1 to 1 it would be epic
Bungie DID manage to incorporate one multiplayer map section into a campaign level. Rather small but it’s there (ONI: Sword Base/Sword Base from Halo: Reach). If none hadn’t already noticed until now, now that I bring this up.
Not just one...pretty much every level! (Though I've always wondered if it was designed campaign first or mp first)
You have the first covenant encounter area from Winter Contingency, Oni Sword base interior + exterior and the Package's AA towers and underground base, Nightfall's dam and water pump station, Tip of Spear's Spire, Exodus beachhead, (nothing from New Alexandria), and the shipyard + pelican landing pad area for PoA

18:38 and there comes 343 with Halo 4, the didact, and a whole ass trilogy of books to give everything away about the forerunners
Flood infected scarab omg
Every cut content video makes me happier about the possible remake of the the series
Yo! We need a Halo 3 original vision cut NOW!
This would have been a spectacular mission cinematic wise for halo 3. I really wish they kept it in!!
That scene you had of the scarab blowing up, how come no one mentions it? Seeing the missile strike the turret and then it supernovas is just perfect.
If there is more people with the same idea maybe 343 will listen.
@General83 hopefully. After all that coverage about a soft reboot of Halo CE. That just seems so dumb to me. But what do I know I guess. All I can do is cross my fingers for H3 anniversary at the very least.
MCC already has a pretty large download as it is. I've seen Mint say that's why they can't really add 5 to MCC.
It will be garbage if 343 Incompetencies is making it, just like every thing else they did compared to Bungie’s (and Creative Assembly’s) Halo Games. Let Certain Affinity and/or ID Software make it instead.
@@iandobosh8584 At this rate the next halo game would be a repeat of halo infinite.
We need halo 3 anniversary directors cut edition 😭
Dude Guardian Forest is somewhat made in the Minecraft Xbox One Edition and Halo Mashup, it’s so cool
I've been bing watching your channel all day! Glad we got another video, I can't wait to get into Halo again!

This game sits as my #1 alongside halo reach
Ironic those are the 2 weakest bungie games.
At last an amazing video instead of clickbait drama. Much appreciated
Tsavo Township sounds like the first campaign level of Reach. At least that's the way I imagined it'd be laid out.
I would've loved to see the E3 trailer demo for Halo 2 as a playable level, sort of like a call back/Easter egg.
Hopefully if the CE Remake is successful and reimplements Cut Content, we can get the Same Treatment for 2 and 3, maybe Reach.
I can’t tell if I would rather have the full Halo 2 (which means no Halo 3 at all), or the full Halo 3.
Okay so if Halo CE's remake is an utter banger then I will honestly hope that 2 and 3 get remakes and that they're MASSIVE!
Fuckkkk. And everyone thought the cuts from halo 2 were bad. This game would have been so much more epic it’s crazy. Every one of these cut levels sounds like the same tier as the ark and the covenant. My lord
Some quality editing!
Can't wait to see a halo 3 remake in the future. It WILL happen and it's not a question of IF but WHEN they'll do it.
One of my favourite games ever. It’s insane that basically a whole game’s worth of content was cut.
Nowadays this is purposely cut to sell back to you as DLC
Man, i hate trting to look at the back of my hand and see the entire Halo 3 campaong
Great video!
I think the Rebel Base level is just referring to Crow’s Nest. I pretty sure its a just a Star Wars reference and not a reference to Innies. But thats just what I got
Imagine this was the best video game of all time the original halo 3 everything in this video is just a chefs kiss on what halo 3 was meant to be
Man I’ve had a script saved for YEARS I got randomly that’s so close to this
I even had idea to use a level based on Guardian as a kid. Good times
Hopefully the rumored remake sells well so we can get Halo 2 remake and halo 3 Remake
I wish someone would recreate these levels as a mod.
Yeah, if the CE remake is a success we need this with all the original ideas put back in for sure
There is no way 343 makes a remake that’s faithful to Bungie’s intended vision let alone Halo 3.
