  • I was so excited to find this 1932 vintage plus size clothing catalog from Lane Bryant on eBay. I've been collecting plus size clothing catalogs for a while now and this is the oldest one that I have now. these vintage plus size clothing catalogs give us a peek into world of plus size women and the beautiful clothing that was available for them.
    In this video I talk a little bit about the history behind the woman who started the company, Lena Himmelstein and how she created this very specialized and successful plus size clothing fashion brand.

    I want the lounge/pyjama set! Wow, they had some amazing clothes! The 30s is a decade I never really explored and now I want the clothes!

    How gorgeous! The options available are so fantastic. Why did the fashion industry stop using them? I would absolutely buy it. Especially the lounge/pyjama wear😍

    I love the sleevelette and all the sleeve options of the fashions! And how the whole outfit was put together. Jackets and sleeves! I'm glad we can look back at these and appreciate the fashions, not necessarily the wordings and ways women were portrayed.

      I totally agree! Those removable sleeves are so neat.

    My grandmother (b. 1902) had two stores where her "plus size" figure could shop in the 1960s: Lane Bryant and Roaman's. Some of her cocktail dresses (which I kept) were custom made and just gorgeous!!!!

      Oh yes! I have a few Roamans catalogs too. They are just as beautiful.

    Thank you for this video with absolutely stunning clothes, it was very inspirational.
    As a fashion designer I would definitely recommend starting to sew.
    If you can, start with drafting blocks for your blouse, skirt and sleeve. From these you can make any style of blouse, skirt or dress that your heart desires.
    Alternatively if that seems to daunting, find a basic dress from your collection and draw around the pieces separating them into blouse, skirt and sleeves. Happy sewing adventures.

    Very very very cool! Also, I would love for you to review Lane Bryant from the last 10 to 20 years as they have become very fashion forward again it will be interesting to see their entire trend from start to current day! I think I might start collecting these kind of looks too what a cool hobby! Thank you

      I really only focus on vintage styles. I don't wear any modern clothing, so I don't think I'd be the right person for that.

    Fun look at a wonderful selection of really beautiful thirties clothes. I’m guessing that the whole changing the sleeves idea would have been to add versatility to a capsule wardrobe as perhaps people had less disposable income back then and owned fewer clothes? Also I smiled fondly when you used the word ‘elastified’, I’m gonna totally use that word from now on, I love it!! Hope you don’t mind me joshing you a bit, I don’t at all mean it nastily, I love using made up words myself. 😉🤗

      @TheGlambassador  2 роки тому

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I actually said "elasticized", which is an actual word. I have be known to make up words now and then, but sadly this was not one of those times.

    It's so interesting to see the 1932 catalog. Very beautiful prints. I fell in love with pajamas and nightgowns! Thanks for sharing. I was particularly impressed by the order form, preserved in an excellent condition! It is a pleasure to listen to your comments and it was very interesting to hear the history of the brand, I did not know about this amazing woman. Well, and I completely agree with your opinion about the article in this magazine about the permanent desire to look slimmer.

    • @TheGlambassador
      @TheGlambassador  2 роки тому +1

      I love seeing how preserved the order forms are. They are usually found tucked in the middle of the catalog, so they aren't exposed. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

    Well that's cool, I'm from Lithuania, too! You don't often hear about Lithuanians in the world at those times since Lithuania was consumed into Russian empire and were pretty dang oppressed

    Christine sits sipping ice tea in her gorgeous Emmy clothing with perfect make up and hair in the heat of summer....I, meanwhile, am literally melting and baking in 100F heat today here in the UK wondering why on earth the British STILL don't have air conditioned homes in 2022?!!! 🤷‍♀️

    • @TheGlambassador
      @TheGlambassador  2 роки тому +1

      Oh no! Can you at least get a window unit? We had some portable units when we lived in Germany. I would not have survived the summer without them.

      It was 31C here in Scotland today... like what?? this is Scotland!! Thank goodness I manage to get a good fan but honestly, if this is not global warming I don't know what it is. I had to do some errands around and it took me 2.30 hours walking around. I thought I was gonna suffer from a heat stroke. It's supposed to get worse tomorrow eh?

      @@TheGlambassador saving for one as we speak, Christine! I'm literally dying here today, it's over 100 degrees Fahrenheit and every summer seems to get hotter. I worked in the US in the early 1990's and people had air con then which is literally 30 yrs ago so I just can't understand why homes here just don't have it. Portable unit it is...!

    • @TheGlambassador
      @TheGlambassador  2 роки тому +1

      Oh gosh, I hope you can get one soon. I'm so sorry that you have to deal with such heat with no AC. I grew up in San Diego and we never had AC or heat. I didn't have AC until I moved to North Carolina when I was almost 30!

    Just in case anyone is curious like I am $4.95 in 1932 is $94.53 in today's money. That is taking in account our current higher then normal inflation. Before inflation I believe it is around $64.95 or so.

      Thank you! I know I didn't do my usual price comparison with this one. It's interesting to see how different the prices were.

    Pardon "my" name, I've hijacked my bf's laptop so this isn't my acct, lol, but I had to comment. I noticed you mentioned you felt like Lane Bryant hasn't kept up with the trends. I encourage you to take another look! I'm an 18/20 and get about 50% of my clothes from Lane Bryant. Everything from thigh high, high heeled boots to lacey lingerie. They do still have a few "old lady" looks but I just pass on those. I feel they've changed a lot recently to keep things relevant and modern.

    they were made in the united states. now all our shoes are made in other countries. we made combination last last B front and a heel proberly more confortable then the shoes today. I use to sale shoes in a old fashion shoes store where we measured the customer feet and fit to the shoe to there feet.

    • @TheGlambassador
      @TheGlambassador  Рік тому +1

      They did, but just as with today the models are on the slimmer side because of messed up beauty standards.
