I posted this on patreon.com/bridgethegapreactions last month but as it's listed in Mariah's singles discography on Wikipedia, I thought I'd post it here too. It's a live version actually, but close enough!
Luther Vandross is a legend. Luther has many classic songs and albums. He is one of the greatest singers of all time. You should definitely react to Luther's performance of A House Is Not A Home 1988 NAACP image Awards. It's fantastic. As far as Mariah goes it's without question that she did a phenomenal job. Yes Mariah's voice gets lighter around Music Box and particularly Daydream. She goes from her early soul gospel bassy vocals of the early 90s to a more pop r&b type voice as her music starts to reflect more of those genres. Her voice is alien. Her tone changes quite a bit throughout the years but she still keeps her signature sound. But yes her voice become less husky and more light and agile but also very raspy and dark in some cases as well. You will hear the changes as you go through her discography.
Luther's voice was so Smooth , Warm, Velvety and full of Soul , that we call him Luthaaaahhhhh. He was such a generous and loving soul. When they met to do this song , he was so struck by her talents and her Voice ,that he offered her the best advice that she still uses to this day. He advised her to Sleep with Humidifiers so that her voice will be in the best condition as possible (although her lack of sleeping a lot during these years did have its negative affects)
It really didn’t have any affect her voice was still top and she has nodules which some of you so called critics forget . When she’s rested she kills it still not rested well she killed it in this era . Her nodules is the factor in her vocal issues.
When you said you hadn’t heard this song before, I was thinking you are in for a treat and that’s nothing to do with Mariah. I’m am the biggest fan but Luther’s voice is just exceptional.
Luther was the king of remakes, most of his famous songs were his own versions of other songs. He was particularly big fan of legendary Dionne Warwick, sang duet with her and his remake of House is a Home live is amazing. This remake song a great one, sometimes hard to compare to original
aahh now you done it sheesh just add Luther in the mix I can't even. I just love how they are both relaxed with each other, at times i think adlibbing (I'm sure there's a proper word). If ya want to here what Luther can do watch his live 1988 NAACP performance the song is A House is not a Home. Cheers mate🤗🤗
The Royal Albert Hall, 1994. The first time she’d ever performed at a concert in the UK. And the last place she performed in concert in the UK, in 2019 - I saw her there and she was amazing, and she performed this as a surprise and tribute to Luther.
Nice reaction! Not one I typically listen to her, but she smashes it per usual. I recommend watching any of her live Make It Happen performances from 2005. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This is such a Perfect, powerful song, far beyond the content of the lyrics alone. I guess it makes these kind of songs mysterious in their nature. Even better, live, than the original
I suggest you react to Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men singing "One Sweet Day" live (Madison Square Garden). It's one of the best live performances I've ever seen. I always come back to it.
I remember getting Luther's album just for this song (because of Mariah of course), back in 1994 (oh Jesus!) and got mermerized by his voice, he was amazing. Fun fact, Mariah told the story on how Walter was producing this album, and she happened to be in the studio with them one day, and proposed to do Endless Love (as SONGS was an album with just covers), and of course Luther said yes.
There's is amazing for sure. But, there's a remix I just heard and got goosebumps hearing it. You need to check it out and make a reaction to it!!It's Gabriel Henrique Ft Jade Sallas!!
Johnny-you’re making me a bit worried here, we’re close to the end of music box era and I still haven’t seen a reaction to “everything fades away”. It would be criminal, to not listen/review this b-side!!!!
If you haven’t done it yet, you absolutely, positively HAVE to react to Bee Gees and their song, Too Much Heaven. And it HAS TO BE their live performance. You can’t miss this .
I know you keep saying you only want to react to female pop stars, but your fans are asking for males too. I think it would be good for your channel to expand. I recommend Marc Broussard Home
While this is a nice version, and I really like both Mariah and Luther's voices. I prefer Lionel Ritchie's and Diana Ross's version better. I suggest you check out that version and maybe go down the Diana Ross/Supremes discography. Diana Ross is a legend.
Pretty song but not as good as the original. Diana Ross and Lionel Richie are kind of in the same wheelhouse but Mariah Carey has such a big voice and Luther Vandross is smooth and doesn't really resonate or have a lot of power, she drowns him out completely.
Luther Vandross is a soul singer but with my ear he's singing a mixed chest head voice. It's a little high for his tenor voice. He's not a baritone but he doesn't have the resonance and the power to keep up with Mariah. It's interesting in doing research there aren't a lot of black singers who are men who have power whereas most black women can bring it to church. There was a group called Jodeci and the lead singer is named K-C Hailey,he is a vocal powerhouse. Johnny Gill would have been another better alternative,He is a vocal powerhouse

i love this performance. luther is an amazing and passionate vocalist. mariah looks so gorgeous and beautiful! they both SANG the house down
Luther is one of the G.O.A.Ts
OMG you absolutely MUST listen to Luther. He is THE GOAT male vocalist. Start with A house is not a home LIVE.
Never too much - Luther Vandross
Superstar ' ,Anyone who had a heart ,The sweetest Love and Better Love all by Luther
Mariah and Whitney singing When You Believe ❤

Best wedding song ❤

Such a cool duet, their voices blend so beautifully, they also performed this song live on Top Of The Pops and it's amazing.
Oh Luther ❤️ RIP to this man. The best to do it.
Wow, I didn't know he had passed actually! 2005?! Far too young
@@bridgethegapreactions yes it was such a shock. His music was always played in the house growing up, he was definitely my dad’s favorite.
@@bridgethegapreactions ....the African American community...went...literally into mourning.....

Love this version way more than the original. But my favorite duet of her, is with Brian McKnight “whenever you call”
Fantastic you did this one one of my favourite duets of all time

I was there that nigh, took my mum!!

You can just tell Mariah and Luther both enjoyed this, and so did everyone else.

I hope you can find the time to react to Bonnie Raitt and her song, I Can’t Make You Love Me. The official music video. You would really like it.
Your verbal reactions are great, but they don’t compare to your physical reactions! Love to see you just let the music wash over you.
lovely
Perfect 👌👌👌
If you want to hear a good duet..Rick James and Tina Marie..fire and desire…🔥🔥🔥
Yes
Mariah's great of course but something about Luther's voice grabs my attention the whole way through.

I've seen it already! The Bee Gees are one of my favourite bands - every era, each decade, I love everything about them. So underrated.
@@bridgethegapreactions Yes, I couldn’t agree more! You should check out Donny Hathaway singing , A Song For You. The audio. Pretty special.
Please react to Mariah's duet with John Legend on "With You I'm Born Again."
Mariah Carey has a wonderful voice but Luther Vandross is on a different planet!!
React madonna god control 💛
Luther&Mariah VS Luther&Celine….who wins😅?

This comment screams you know very little about Luther vandross or music
Luther wasn’t even breaking a sweat here. His voice was just following like fine silk. He wasn’t even pushing his voice.
