Although Lisa occasionally sang back up for the Rolling Stones for many years, she toured regularly with Luther Vandross for 25 years. That was her real job. Lisa is still alive and singing in and around my native Brooklyn, is still just as beautiful and can still hit that F6. She is, IMO, the most underrated singer of her generation.

For some reason they decided to edit this performance. I haven't looked very hard but at least on the surface it seems the whole performance isn't listed anywhere. The video cuts the actual second verse and first chorus and it goes from the first verse to the second chorus directly, then bridge, last chorus, and outro. It's an amazing song. If only Lisa hadn't decided she didn't want the spotlight like she did, she'd probably have been one of the most well known artists in the 90s. She was nominated for two Grammys and won one of them with this song, and it was her debut. She could've done anything she wanted with her career, but she simply didn't want to go solo and decided to continue with her career as it had been until then. Huge loss for us listeners but I do have great respect for her for making a difficult choice and sticking to it still even though there were probably a ton of people tryna get her to do one thing or another.

Lisa was the one who decided that she didn't want to record another solo album because of her fondness for backing vocalist rather than a solo artist. Sounds like insecurities. She could have been ultra famous if she wanted to, but she was uncomfortable with the spotlight on herself. She has toured and song background for the likes of Luther Vandross, the Rolling Stones, Tina Turner. She only put the one Solo album " So Intense " Encouraged by Luther to do so. She won the Grammy for the song you just heard. She's still performing to this day. Unless you react to the rest of the songs on the album, that's all you are getting from her. Dare I say she's the best background singer ever.

Lisa is so under rated. So much better and better vocal range than Mariah in my opinion. If you look for some of her stuff she has done even today, Vocals are even more beautiful. Her live performances always sound like a recording.... She can wreck any genre she tackles. Ridiculous....

I believe that was head voice. I think she hit a whistle note in the studio version.
Lisa had potential to be up there with the greats Whitney etc. After the release of this song and her first album, she quit. She said she didn’t enjoy being a solo act. She preferred being in the back.

Interesting footnote even though she was pretty much a one-hit wonder She never really charted again She had one song after this.
She won a Grammy for best r&b performance she tied with Patti LaBelle.
It's sad that the best voices don't always become the most famous.
Arranged from those sultry lows to that whistle register is amazing I think she's a better version of Mariah Carey

@@strangerthings88 Yeah I can't understand why people just limit Mariah to a singer who is just known for her whistle register. It's very puzzling.
