Okay so rereading your comment again I think I disagree with it now. Because that's kinda the entire point of a cover. You play note for note to respect what the author/composer has written down. A lot of classical musicians and symphonies orchestras do this to this day.
What I think this us now is an adaptation. This is no longer Eric Johnsons Song. This is Aaron's adaptation of Cliffs of Dover taking a lot of the melodies and licks and making something new out of it. And BOY this Adaptation is a great one.
Eric Johnson would be mighty proud of this. Masterclass my friend

I have seen many many people try to copy the original and fall short. Even the best players can't do what Johnson does, simply because they're not him, and the song has just so much of his style, of his hands in it. To hear someone instead take the energy of it and play it in their own way, with their own hands, is immensely refreshing. You've done something very special here, mate.

There are a lot of covers of this song on UA-cam and many of them are impressive as a technical skills showcase. I'll watch those and give a thumbs up for the time and dedication it took them to learn the song, then probably never think of them again. This one is different because it's an extremely well executed interpretation and it's just enjoyable as music. This is the only cover of this song I've ever heard that I would actually listen to while driving or taking a walk or whatever. Well done.

The original cliffs of dover has always been my "holy grail" song. One of my absolute favorites and one I strive to be able to play one day. I also love bluegrass. Now you go and throw this at me and I don't know what to do
