All rights to this beast song go to Eric Johnson!
5 Stars, 100%.
He is the true Cello Hero
smashbros379ful Lol, that's a good one.
Yes he is I love this song original and this version
To get an idea of how great of a masterpiece this was it took Eric Johnson a decade to perfect this the way he wanted. Most people just overlook the song as some guitar solo.
Well, it looks like back in the day EJ would be obsessed with every tiny detail of any song it would take him ages between each album.
@@Javier-qk7ms so like Rihanna
My favorite guitar song, it's a masterpiece for sure.
Boss man
Thanks for all the kind words, I truly appreciate it!
+Roman Soto make an album of cover songs like this, lots of people will buy it
+Griffin Healy Check out Vitamin String Quartet, it's probably exactly what you're looking for.
+Roman Soto Well done sir.
+Roman Soto I'm very amazed with this incredible cover, it's AWESOME! Mr.Roman Soto you are great!
That was awesome it was probably hard work but it was worth it couse it was a beautiful cover
As a violinist and guitarist, I can tell you with certainty that it's exponentially more difficult to play this song on an instrument without frets. WELL DONE!
Yeah, but at least if you're an experienced bow player you can use the lack of frets to intonate what would have been string bends on guitar. What I'd give to have 100% pitch control hahaha :')
@@Frewster it’s not hard to bend in tune tho
I'm a step parent to a young adult who plays multiple orchestra instruments and I can also play some guitar and I agree this would be really difficult to olay on a cello and its mind blowing that he is killing it
@@Frewster yeah but you have to know exactly where the note is on the neck....you wouldn't have a fret to aid you in perfect notes. And you'd also have to ask yourself if it's so easy on cello then why don't all guitar go fretless...because it's not easy, it's actually harder to play.
Im curious about the notes transfer, do the 4 top strings go just upside down on a bow instrument?
I've tried that and it didn't quite work, do you have to properly transfer every single note to every single position in their proper octaves? Do you just set a new fret 0 to match the guitara and count the frets from that?
I hate sheet music, I guess it's trivial to sight read the music directly
That's one road block I wouldn't mind waiting around for.
BlazinAmazin Absolutely. I'd pull over, sit on my hood and enjoy.
Car!!!! Game on!!
@@TheDarkness1 party on, the darkness!

Anyone watching this after seeing the electric bassoon cover of Cliffs of Dover?
bro me! JUST GOT IT IN MY RECCOMENDED AND WAS CURIOUS ON THE OTHER ERIC JOHNSON COVERS, i quite liked the electric bassoon one but i like this one a bit more
I am, and now I am left wishing a mash-up would show up in my recommendations
Yes.
i wonder how many times the had to stop....CAR !!
+Drewper hehe...officially...twice. that same car went in and we got caught right at the end as he was returning lol was perfect timing!
GAME ON!!
yes you can see it there at the end :D
Jubraltar lol I just watched that movie today.
Game on
After seeing the title to this video, I thought to myself: "Damn the chorus to cliffs of Dover would sound pretty awesome on cello."
And you delivered sir. Fantastic cover.
WOW young man....I am totally blown away. As a 54 year old enthusiast of music from classical to rock to country and everything in between, well....I have no words. What an amazing performance.
I hope you can share all of your talent with the world! You know....as an afterthought, PLEASE send your video to Eric Johnson.
The two of you collaborating on this song would be beyond words and go world wide viral!!!
Can barely play this song on guitar and this dude is just shredding on the cello.
Mad respect.
Roman
The world will soon know the genius is you...
great player, producer, arranger, and a really great guy. Enjoy your freedom now
cause it won't be long the whole world will want to get next to you..
Proud of you and to know you
great job on this video..( and other stuff Ive heard you do)
so musical!!!
Thank you so much Jamie, means a lot coming from you. You are the man!!!
VN!
5 seconds in, and my hairs are already standing on end. It amazes me that one of the greatest rock instrumentals of all time can be played by a freaking cello! That's no easy accomplishment, my friend, and you did it like it was nothing! Well done!
I saw this piece of music covered by a bassoonist awhile back...
BRAVO!!!!!!! América Latina presente.
Its performances like these that make me feel that music is the greatest gift we’ve given this planet
Dude. This is freakin awesome. It deserves way more recognition. This cover is far better than any of the violin covers I've heard of this song.
Ayden Crocker It's probably because most covers besides one that I've heard have to switch it up a little because the song goes below the range of the violin. The one cover I heard that didn't switch the octaves had a guy playing a custom 5 string violin.
Cliffs of Dover...
Not just for guitar anymore.
That was awesome!
When you’re a classical cello player but you wanna rock
OMG! My fingers cramp just watching this guy play, he is obviously a very talented individual...
Im a violín Maker and I played guitar in my young days, this song was my favourite one and sometimes I make cello scrolls listening “cliff of Dover”! Was mind blowing find this!!! My young days and my passion just perfect combined! Thank you so much!
Thank God for people willing to devote so much time to developing a talent such as this. It is all I can do to hold back the tears for the upwelling of emotion that overcomes me while witnessing such a magnificent performance. It gives me hope for the future of humanity. Thank you for sharing this joyous moment in a lifetime.
BEAUTIFUL ARRANGEMENT and just perfect technical playing
thank you for this experience!
I am completely awe struck by this performance I am a huge fan of Eric Johnson have seen many people cover this song. I have never been more delighted by any other covers of this song by any other musicians on any instruments. I feel like Salieri when he heard Mozart. I hope you have a very long and prosperous career you talent is a gift
down right amazing! Well done good sir.
***** Thank youu so much!
This man deserves every award
The Eric Johnson of Cello... And the Joe Satriani, Gary Hoey, Santana, Al DiMeola, Paco de Lucia and Stanley Jordan of Cello too. Go Roman.
Roman, you are a BEAST! Very, very amazing. I'm looking forward to more from you.
Fantastic!!! We should have Eric check this out!!! He actually replies to his facebook page every once in a while, and this is something I think he'd enjoy watching!!! Let's do it!
Diego Edsel Thanks! Thats the plan! Been trying to get his attention with it on Twitter as well ;)
he even gets that screeching sound from the intro riff. brilliant.
you go bro thats what inspires others
This is still ICONIC!!!! Keep coming back
Only 10k views, should be 10 billions ... Good Job man, sounds great !
Has Eric seen this?
I hope so haha
Bradley van Dijk I don't think this is THAT difficult to produce on an instrument without frets, string instruments, that is. I am able to play this on violin, but it goes too low sometimes so I have to bring it up an octave. Otherwise all the other notes are easily playable for violin.
Cozelis Yea right.
Mr. Crowley I'm not really surprised you doubt that I can play it, and I certainly don't mean I can flawlessly note for note, but I can play it pretty accurately.
Cozelis 😎 cool
awesome!!!!
musicpawns i shared your video on facebook because it was kickass
+musicpawns thanks a ton!
ty for playing this considering that you were not even born when this song.came out. thank you for recognizing classic material
Awesome, just awesome. Going to have a smile on my face all day now. Thanks.
AMAZING! Totally killed it! On a fretless instrument, wow… hard enough to play on guitar
This is fucking amazing!!! I am currently learning it on guitar, and it is not easy. I know the middle but I can't get the beginning down. The fact that you can do it with a fucking bow is beyond amazing.
RESPECT
Even ignoring the technical aspects of your performance, your translation of this piece from guitar, no, from Eric Johnson's guitar specifically, to cello, is awesome. Specifically that tone around 2:34-2:36 perfectly captures the tone and spirit of Johnson's particular use of effects there, as well as the notes. Nicely done.
Best part of the video is seeing you VIBIN SO HARD to the song as you play!
This deserves fucking more views! It was simply wonderful, you man have some serious skills. Keep it up!
Flat out fun to watch. Awesome.
This song is difficult with any instrument. Great job Roman! It's one of my favorites!
Dude who put a thumbs down? Do you not know what talent is? Roman Soto you are legit! Amazing job.
Cello Hero
Oh goodness!!! wonderful!
fantastic! congratulations
This song is hard as hell on a guitar, its probably tougher on a cello so I bow down to you good sir.
Wow! As a major Eric Johnson fan I really like your interpretation. How about some Hendrix?
Absolutely beautiful 😍❤🎉
Also the callouses on those fingers 🥲
Genious!!!!!
The acoustics in that field is amazing.
OMG! this was beatiful, I must share
No Words. In utter disbelief.
Damn that was badass!!!
Wonderful l love so much !!!!! Bravo !!!!
WTF... I started playing cello half a year ago and I'm struggling with children songs. While other people do THAT :D
Lucas Weissenborn Haha, that's pretty normal. I remember the time I started to play cello. Train everyday and one day you will be verry good at it ^^
haha it's a ton different. I started noticing a big difference around 4 or 5 years after I started. Guitar is a little simpler than cello. Both sound great though in my opinion
Lucas Weissenborn practice
Way different man. Fretless string instruments are gonna be way way harder to make a good sound with, and the muscle memory required to play something this technical takes decades of practice, not just a few semesters. I learned Cliffs of Dover on guitar after about two years of playing. Two years of cello and you won't even be making a decent sound or even coming close to touching thumb position. Guitar is a fantastic instrument, but the difference between the technicality of guitar vs any fretless string instrument is about the same as the difference between a guitar and a recorder
I promise this guy has been playing cello for at least 15 years at minimum, and even so this piece was likely a nightmare to learn
Just awesome!
wow...
Truly talented! Totally does Eric Johnson justice.
And yet I can't do this on fretted guitar.
Rod Balingit it took me a year or so but I can (very choppily) play it
I took a long time to do it on guitar hero. Can't touch it on bass on rocksmith.
Rod Balingit It’s a very fun one once you got it down! I learned the solo on electric bass after 3 weeks, I still beg my music director at school to play this at a concert.
It sounds awesome! Just perfect!
This is insane! Congratulations! Good job 👌🏼
Cuber?
This would make Yo Yo Ma weep with envy! Magnificent!
I KNOW THIS GUY!
Sae-Ho Chun heckyea! (it's rach here)
This is possibly the most beautiful remake I have ever heard.
I had a friend who vehemently hated classical music. Then I showed him this video. Now he loves classical.
I hope that Eric has seen this, because this is simply incredible. Kudos to you, sir.
Oh sweet jesus this is godlike
Incredible!!!!!! LOVED IT!!!
permission to download and use on my stream?
Granted
Thank you so much. I'll make sure to list it was your property as a "cover"
Wouldn't have thought that was possible with a cello. Excellent performance. Filmography was great, as well. Made my day to see and hear that.
I wonder how many times these guys had to stop for some person deciding to drive down this road. I'm sure it happened at least once.
+Frost Sprite (Frostsprite OC) very secluded country road that leads to private farms, but it happened 2x total with a lot of time in between each. we then ended right as #3 was approaching right at the end! ;) thx for watching!
Spectacular!
Now go teach Eric Johnson how to play his own song! LOL
Man, WONDERFUL job this thing! Really beautiful! Marvelously adapted!
Congratulations and keep up with the EXCELENT work!
ryvoltz i imagine Eric could whistle this song and it would still be heavenly
Thought I'd watch the beginning. Stayed until the end. Fantastic.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnddd subscribed.
Absolutely fantastic , a true virtuoso on a cello !!!!!
Where do you come from, young fella? The UK wants to see you live!
Houston Texas :)
+Roman Soto TEXAS!!!!! I'm from DFW area!!
+Zach Wood ME TOO
+Roman Soto H town
Song has a almost a Gaelic folk feel it on the cello. Very cool. Thanks for sharing
This guys girlfriend is a very happy girl.
UA-cam comments... Keepin' it classy since 2002.
falxonPSN Correction: keeping it classy since 2005.
"guy" did you just assume my fucking gender?
"species"? did you just assume my fucking genus?
Vladimir Mazare "species?" did you just assume my existance??
I was today years old when I found out cello player could shred as hard as guitar players. Nice work, dude
did u have the road closes? how did u manage to play in the middle of the street?
one of the ten best performances ive ever seen
Was this recorded at a studio and then dramatized by the same person that played it at the studio? Or how exactly did you get this recorded and what did you use to block the nature sounds. Is killing me I want to know !!! Please share. Thank you. Awesome by the way!!
I recorded the audio in my home studio setup and then shot the video on location outside Austin TX! Synced them up :)
That is the way you do videos my man it's no big secret lol.
Roman Soto I live in Austin :)
It's like a cup of coffee for the ears.....well done!
This is what happens when your parents buy you a Cello but you're metal af
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!!!!! Love listening to cello music outstanding Performance.
Great job BUT, I can't be the only one that was waiting for a 18 wheeler to run him down?
I love this!!!
Excellent playing... not so much so for the karaoke backing track.
The track is two of my friends from Berklee playing :)
Roman Soto Well, they have an excellent career of karaoke backing tracks and elevator music in their future!! ;)
+EatPezzzz lol
Ayyy lmao
My god it’s been so long since I saw this video. So glad it reappeared in my life after so long

way too awesome!
ehy it's me your cousin ROMAN eheh NIKO how u doinggg do u wanna play bowling?
Lol gta4 kinda sucked
Zombiesshit Peniss gta kinda suck in general
I've been playing for 7 years and this is very impressive.
no doubt this song is easier with frets
Simply wowsome indeed...who would have thought...
why does it sound like you played it in an empty room and played it over this vid? Sounds a touch too echoey to be out in the open doors.
+Martin Meers Music videos are often made that way. But if he did it outside like that, he's probably using a microphone somewhere, not likely, but possible, and the reverb from the hollow body it's self.
good point.
Martin Meers This is a studio recording. Notice that you don't see a drummer or bass player either. Its like magic.
cause cars
Awesome, AND in the middle of the fricken road like a BOSS!
