In 5.1 make sure to use 8 bit brushes when you sculpt your landscapes, otherwise it will crash (because the sculpt tool only supports 8 bit textures for now).

This was one of the most intuitive and easily explained landscape creation processes I have seen, thanks so much Jakub! Hope to create some amazing landscapes with this new knowledge. I am curious if you plan to make a tutorial on how to go about creating alpha brushes :) ?

Thanks for watching! Creating good alpha brushes is a lengthy process, but quite easy. I do them in World Creator and you can find plenty of great resources on their official channel.
You know what would ( I think) make a nice wee tutorial, Taking a section of a landscape, eg a village town area and making it into an alpha. Say you buy an town building asset and the demo has a nice town/village layout you like and you would maybe like it for part of a library of layouts making it into an apha meants you can stamp it into any height map to make a village with saving a lot od sculpting. I like using the "Medieval Docks" from the maketplace for example a ready made dark-age port, just change building props etc

For some reason on my landscape the alpha brush just create a white color with no depth

Maybe you accidentally switched to the Paint mode in your landscape window or the Tool Strength is too low? You can always send me an email with some screenshots and I'll try to help.
Thank you! Great tutorial 👌🏻 I'm having issues with world partition and custom skysphere in UE5.4 where sections of landscape will be completely "deleted" after a while, and loading in the area from partition mini map creates new layers of landscape instead of loading in the missing sections. This only seems to happen when I have a custom skysphere in my project, and I made sure the skysphere mesh was much larger than the total landscape size. Any advice? 😢
is there anyway to increase the size of alpha brushes past 65535. I know that seems pretty big but I want a mountain that's tall enough on a 15x15 km map. I have been using separate landmasses for the mountains but it doesn't blend into the map like alpha brushes do.
Thank you so much beautiful you and note a million heartfelt thanks helped me a lot to make my game to create my map faster I was not sure how to use Unreal tools to create my map but with your brush it will help a lot.
I keep asking myself why the bushes don't work. But I'm very grateful you supplied them. Thank you very much.! I tried bot .tif and .png followed directions but when I left click I get nothing. It's too bad because they seem so awesome.

When you select the brush, does it preview on your landscape or not?
@ First let me thank you for taking the time to reply.. that is awesome.. It turns out when I selected the alpha brush I forgot to switch back to sculpt mode and was trying to do it with the paint brush. The alpha brushes are now working the way they should and am getting great results!!!...Thank you so much...
Followed you instructions but for some reason I am not getting the aplha textures while trying to sculp. When I select the alpha texture it will not update in the brush setting, just stays at the default?

If you could you send me an email with screenshots, and I'll try to help you with this problem.
When I drag and drop the alpha brushes into Unreal, the icons are red scale, not black and white, and they don't seem to make the textures correctly in landscape mode. Any idea what this is all about?

It doesn't really matter however if you want to switch them back to black & white set them to "regular textures" because you imported them as "virtual textures".

hello. thank you for the video! i was wondering would you be able to make your old Alpha brushes also to the 8 bit format? i really like how those ones look and it wont let me import them as they are into UE5. :(

@@williamhoolahan6132 Yeah, the old brushes are under CC BY 4.0. The new ones have custom made and more accessible license.
These are great. When I use the alpha brushes though, the landscape comes out super sharp and bumpy? I am only using tool strength 3?
3 роки тому
Unfortunately, Unreal Engine only supports 8-bit textures, that's why they create such bumps. What you can do is to take the Smooth Tool and try to smooth it out a bit.
@ thanks for the quick Reply! Thing is, I tried some of Joe Garths brushify alpha brushes as well, which are 8k, and got the same result- is there a setting or something I messed up?
Hi Jakub, I'm experimenting w/ UE5p2, and seems I cannot assign the textures you shared. Do you have an idea why?
2 роки тому+3
Yeah, I can't do that too. Looks like UE5/p2 has problems with .tif files. If you convert brush textures to .png it will work just fine. Hopefully, they will fix it by the full release of UE5.
@ Do you know what the probem is. Your files are fine, they open in photoshop without any problem. Did Unreal stop supporting tif format. It's strange, because the files import into the program, the problem is that they cannot be connected as a brush.
Thank you so much Is it safe to put one each in a colour channel like Joe Garth has done or did he use vector maps? maybe. As I ask this I have no idea if you have any Brushify assets maybe a dumb question
3 роки тому+1
Having brushes in each color channels within a single texture (what Joe did), is the most optimal way to store and manage them. I prefer to have each brush separately so that it can be used not only for landscape sculpting, but also as a displacement map, as well as be used in other programs (not just Unreal Engine) like Blender or C4D. Both methods are good and safe. :)
@ Good points thanks for the reply. I'm currently trying my hand at making that new "Medieval Village" Envroinment into an open world and replaceing the buildings wall so the player can ebter them
