Great tuto! but a have a question about the soft and hard normals, do you mean about the smoothing groups? i do 3d modeling in 3ds max and i usually work with turbosmooth or chamfer, thanks
In Blender you set mesh shading to smooth. Im sure there is something similar in 3dsmax. Hope it helps!
Yeah i know what it is now, thanks for your tutorials!
your explanation is great , make more video
Thanks for watching.
these are gold, thanks!
Thanks for watching.
Virtual textures are costly if textures are not 4k or more as it doubles the GPUs instructions Good for nanite landacapes and 4k+ textures assets, bad for everything else
Thank you! Great tutorial 👌🏻 I'm having issues with world partition and custom skysphere in UE5.4 where sections of landscape will be completely "deleted" after a while, and loading in the area from partition mini map creates new layers of landscape instead of loading in the missing sections. This only seems to happen when I have a custom skysphere in my project, and I made sure the skysphere mesh was much larger than the total landscape size. Any advice? 😢
is there anyway to increase the size of alpha brushes past 65535. I know that seems pretty big but I want a mountain that's tall enough on a 15x15 km map. I have been using separate landmasses for the mountains but it doesn't blend into the map like alpha brushes do.
Ooo Polak widzę
Wow i did this still have the same frame rate from when i started did not d i anything when you have grass a trees
I'm just subscribing not because of the tutorial or the way you are explaining. just because of your kind heart.
Thanks for subscribing!
Just the fix I needed for my landscape. Thank you! (Subscribed) 😀
Happy to help. Thanks for watching!
Instant Follow!!! So useful! Thank Jakub!

So then nanite ain’t shit?
Nanite is way better than LODs. I recorded this video when nanite wasn't even a thing.
switched my trees from using nanite to using LODs and gained a ton of FPS. Strange. I figured nanite would be better on performance but it seems as though it's not.
I don't think that's nanites fault. You can check what causes this decreased performance using GPU VIsualizer and compare with nanite on and off. I bet the problem is with the shadows.
Hey men Im still using your brush for alpha brush for creating mountain etc since I did started in UE4. I remember you posted somewhere on web when I googled free for alpha brush, thanks!!
Haha great to hear that. I'm gonna have new erosion brushes coming up in 2024 so stay tuned.
Dzięki Przyjacielu 🍻
Proszę bardzo!
These alphas have some issues with UE 5.3 version. No matter how hard I try UE just do not see them =(
Make sure to unzip the folder and then import only 8 bit brushes.
AWESOME video bro ! I have many games on Steam but a large refund from those have lower PC, with your tips, the refund'% decrased much more ! xo...
Glad I could help.
Appreciate the effort bro, keep it up <3
very very helpful. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Optimization in Unreal Engine sounds like a joke 😂😂
Now in Unreal Engine 5 there are many more ways to optimize your projects.
Wonderful! You earned yourself a sub and thanks soooo much for the brushes😀
Thanks!
Wish I could like this more than once. 👍
Once is enough for me, thank you so much!
Jakub, grateful for this. Thank you🙂
Thanks for watching!
Is this system optimized?
Can't wait to try out the volcanic Alpha pack. Big Thanks !
Now if only AAA devs watched this video.
Thanks!
You're welcome.
Thank you. Great video - simple and clear.
Thanks for watching.
Great explanation. Thank You.
Thanks for watching!
Great video
Thank you!
ue5 crashes when trying to use these brushes ((
Make sure to use the 8 bit brushes. The 16 bit ones will crash.
Great video! Thank you
what settings should be put on alpha maps? My engine always crashes
Is overdaw still an issue?
It depends on how many meshes you'll stack on each other.
When you bake in your lighting in is it emissive by itself or is it just a “lightened” effect on a surface?
When i enter Light Completixy all of my level is black. am i doing something wrong?
I can't remember how to apply noise and curling to your whole landscape at once. Please help!
You taught me about so many tools that I had no idea existed. I'm running to my pc right now to implement all these optimizations 😁
Brilliant tutorial. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Very informative! Also you should turn off alpha channel render for every RoughnessOcclusionMetallic texture map for every asset to reduce half of the texture size for even more optimization
Super tutorial. Dzięki i czekam na więcej :)
thanks and we wait more from this pretty videos :)
good ...... why dont you continue making tuts you are good teacher

i don't know but i would also cover master materials. Each material on an object is also a draw call. So, 20 Materials on your object is 21 draw calls.
My foliage meshes are black in that mode? why could that be? thank you
New follower for you
Thank you!
Most useful and easy to understand tutorial on optimization yet, thank you
Thanks for watching!
In 5.1 make sure to use 8 bit brushes when you sculpt your landscapes, otherwise it will crash (because the sculpt tool only supports 8 bit textures for now).
