What makes your fishing fun is catching an assortment of species on a fly rod, now how awesome is that.
Cool video... liking the fly action when wade fishing; really clear water... nice!
Love the channel, lots o good stuff on here. One little thing you might change on your fly fishing setup before you get into your 20 lb'er. Switch your reel to left handed so you can keep the rod in your right hand after hooking up. No more need to switch hands, works just like a traditional spin setup...rod in right hand at all times.
Brilliant work! Keep it up!
Your videos are really cool and Informative. What has been setting apart is how you are leaving the camera fixed while walking or driving which gives viewers the ride along feel. By not only fishing you bring the weather and surroundings into the conversation which really plays that role into catching fish.
Curtis GALLAGHER thanks for letting me know. I really liked reading what your perspective is!:)
looked like a great outing nice fish
thats dope.. looked like a nice a day of skoolies.. dont know how to fish the fly.. would like to learn.. fish on
nice very nice video its nice to see you are fly fishing. its kind of funny how iam watching me through you lol. what your doing. is love of it. i went from the rod to the love of tying flys instead. ENJOY
awesome video man! love the ocean fly fishing! i live inland so on my channel its mostly trout. anyways keep up the good work!
amazing saltwater fly action!
Have you tried Skagit casting techniques? I use Skagit Commando heads from OPST and a Sage RPLxi 890-5. I am always leery of overhead casting with large heavy flies and sink tips. They always droop on the backcast and wreck the forward cast. Depends on wind etc. I surf fish with Skagit so I don't have to always look behind or false cast to change direction. Single motion 70 ft casts with very little effort. I don't have any monetary affiliations with products mentioned. Great videos.
Oh. Man that's the stuff dreams are made of. You got some great fishing and fishing stocks
Yeah you know it Jon!
So cool! would love to take on stribers one day. Being a trout and salmon videograpfer
nice video... you make me want to go out today and get a fly rod
Fun video. Second fly you tied on was a deceiver.
Looks like a Burk's Hot flash minnow - Orvis sells them they are a nice bunker imitation. It's a little different though yours has a pinkish underbelly and green on top. The one I have is dark bluish on top with silver white underbelly
you should go try out lake mcconaughy for stripers the bite is really good there
like it up 👍
tacticaltrout fishing freshwater stripers just don't pull as hard cuz they're lazy
With a 6wt.rod;really a fair challenge.Tight lines!!!!!!!!!!!!
Been noticing your video quality has really been improving recently, keep it up
Thanks man yeah i'm trying. tight lines!
big bass on the fly you want to target riverto bay or river to ocean blow ups this time of year with flys deciever eels and clouser half halfs. and cynder worm fly. the hatch should be now find the worm hatch this full i guarantee you will have your 20lb
next time you go. Take some lures called Clousers, Half n Half's and Decievers. Those are bigger lures and big Bass love them.
Even though is an old video, do you use a shock tippet, and strength?
excellent vid btw, just subscribed
Thanks Steve! tight lines!
what part of the USA are you in? I mean a rough idea - not asking you tell me your favoured fishing spots - lol!. It looks amazing. We fished out of Boston Harbour with Wayne Frieden it was some day we had! ....
Time of year?
Awesome video. For stripers, do you always use intermediate line?
oh ok i was just sayin cuz im going there this friday
Nice vid! on the cape?
You should get them on the reel but love the video
I hear Sea Robbins are good to eat too.
Im in the UK and the sea Robin looks like our gurnard. They are very good eaters apparently. To be able to catch such fish on the fly your are blessed
I'm going to be fishing lake montauk this week, Any suggestions for striped lures I should throw there
you can never fail with bucktails
Your casts look good. Spin fishing or fly fishing all my barbs are crushed. Better for the fish and when it happens you stick yourself the hook backs out without tissue damage.
The fly is Lefty's deceiver, tied and designed by legendary fly fisherman Lefty Kreh. It's one of the top 10 flies of all time actually
Jeremiah Giles o really thanks for letting me know 👌🏻.
Lefty is smiling
Old vid I know....but if you see this notification; Whats your rod/line/leader setup , what size hooks? thanks!
chris ledue check out the description he lists it there
Thanks! I was curious on the model of Sage and what grain his int line was. Appreciate you looking out!
do fishing live stream
Hey I just subbed but what rod do you recommend for intermediate level Fisher like me? A comment would be appreciated.
Thanks man!! I really do not know what would be the best recommendation. TBH this season is the first time I'm really jumping into saltwater fly fishing. My rod is a 10wt maybe I could recommend a 9wt or 10 if you plan to do something similar to what I was doing in this video. Hopefully someone else can chime in if they have a recommendation for you ?
Andrew Bae
Get a 9 FT, 5WT, FLYROD and REEL
with a 5WT. Weight Forward Flyline..
I've spent time at RIT
you in jersey for this one?
Fuck yes! Fuck yes x100. I love stripers, and I just this past season found the love of fly fishing. Hoping next year I can put a few stripers on the beach with the fly. What is your rod and reel set up?
Fulling Mill Los Roques Minnow
I have a 6 wt rod that I use for trout. Do you think that will work for striper?
maybe like small ones 10-15 or 20" anything bigger you would be seriously out gunned.
No it will not. 8-10
As long as you have enough backing and a strong enough tippet you're good. I've caught plenty of 20 lb chinook salmon in fast water on a 6 weight. Some guys fish small, trout-like flies on a 5 weight...for stripers! Heavier outfit is definitely better on a windy day, bigger flies, and for longer casts
Tight lines...
Frank
@@REZlostboyz Last Summer a guy caught a tarpon on a 6 wt. rod. Tighten up the drag and don't be a little girl. You can certainly catch stripers on a 6 wt.
Robert Dominguez so I suggest an 8-10wt and you automatically assume I’m being a little girl? Do you even fly fish? It’s not the fish fight I’m worried about. Anyways, I believe you about that tarpon on a 6wt. Let me guess, he was on a boat throwing a tiny bait fish or crab pattern casting 20ft with a floating line. Well for striped bass and musky fishing, the flies are 5”-14”. You’re going to need a lot more backbone than a 6wt to cast those flies with some distance. Surf fishing casting a big fly with some wind with a 6wt? Lol good luck....we use 8wts to turn over those bigger flies with some distance. Not to mention heavy fill sink lines. You would automatically know this if you fly fish. Stay in your lane.
would an 8 wt rod work for stripers?
I use an 8 weight for most of my stripper fishing.
Lefty's Deceiver
What he said
Why do you touch the water on every false cast?
Golf Glove cause of blisters? 🤔
When we were real young we use to fish off the rocks in Rhode Island and we caught some Sea Robin's and an old guy used to tell us that they would take your fingers off so I've always had a phobia about them fish! Really ugly
Aloha from Hawai'i. What weight rod & line you using? I just got through guiding a visiting friend from New Hampshire helping him catch his first bonefish about 27" long. Great 10 minute fight.
Ahnko Chee Outdoors probably 8-9wt
mAhnko Chee Outdoors 9wt and an intermediate mono core shooting head sinking line. The line is heavy so not the best if your guiding someone new to fly casting.
Try Skagit style with OPST Commando heads. Works awesome. No false casting needed. Works with big heavy flies and sink tips. No mess ups like on overhead backcast etc. Effortless, single motion change of direction 70 ft casts. Good luck!
@@davidafo2983 I have that very same set up. The commando head is wicked short! 8-10 foot I believe it was. I have a 13'-9" 8wt. Winston Spey rod with opst Lazer running line and sinking tip. I just feel I need a shooting head twice the length of the commando especially when fighting wind.
Do you think you could catch bigger fish if you used bigger flies? Say like a double deceiver, which is an articulated version of the second fly you tied on.
Fly FishAholic Fishing :)
how long is your leader ?
nice vid =)
my leader was only 5ft
@@FishAholicTV you need to go at least 7.5 to 9 ft. Leader
@@bigron8346 he caught fish tho... good ones too.
the flys you are using are called Surf Candies......Rich. Great video Buddy.
o really:) thanks yeah i'm not familiar yet with all the names even though i should be.
I'll send you some pics. If you want a few I make. I'll send you some. Just email me. djett26@gmail.com

Go bigger on the flies dude
Lefty's deciever???
Yes

"I can probably hit that. If they come a little closer."
Deceiver fly
The fly is a clouser
You can't catch striper bass in an ocean you only can catch them in a lake or river
Zeyad ABUSALHA I've caught striped bass in the ocean for 47 years
Zeyad ABUSALHA thats a neck
Stripers actually live in the ocean ( if able ) and reproduce in fresh like salmon
looks like a clouser minnow to me
Maybe something similar, but the body was too flimsy to be bucktail, and the eyes weren't barbells.
clouser minnow
