    What makes your fishing fun is catching an assortment of species on a fly rod, now how awesome is that.

    Love the channel, lots o good stuff on here. One little thing you might change on your fly fishing setup before you get into your 20 lb'er. Switch your reel to left handed so you can keep the rod in your right hand after hooking up. No more need to switch hands, works just like a traditional spin setup...rod in right hand at all times.

    Your videos are really cool and Informative. What has been setting apart is how you are leaving the camera fixed while walking or driving which gives viewers the ride along feel. By not only fishing you bring the weather and surroundings into the conversation which really plays that role into catching fish.

    Have you tried Skagit casting techniques? I use Skagit Commando heads from OPST and a Sage RPLxi 890-5. I am always leery of overhead casting with large heavy flies and sink tips. They always droop on the backcast and wreck the forward cast. Depends on wind etc. I surf fish with Skagit so I don't have to always look behind or false cast to change direction. Single motion 70 ft casts with very little effort. I don't have any monetary affiliations with products mentioned. Great videos.

      Thanks man!! I really do not know what would be the best recommendation. TBH this season is the first time I'm really jumping into saltwater fly fishing. My rod is a 10wt maybe I could recommend a 9wt or 10 if you plan to do something similar to what I was doing in this video. Hopefully someone else can chime in if they have a recommendation for you ?

    • @frankzima7998
      @frankzima7998 6 років тому

      As long as you have enough backing and a strong enough tippet you're good. I've caught plenty of 20 lb chinook salmon in fast water on a 6 weight. Some guys fish small, trout-like flies on a 5 weight...for stripers! Heavier outfit is definitely better on a windy day, bigger flies, and for longer casts
      Tight lines...

      @@REZlostboyz Last Summer a guy caught a tarpon on a 6 wt. rod. Tighten up the drag and don't be a little girl. You can certainly catch stripers on a 6 wt.

    • @REZlostboyz
      @REZlostboyz 5 років тому

      Robert Dominguez so I suggest an 8-10wt and you automatically assume I’m being a little girl? Do you even fly fish? It’s not the fish fight I’m worried about. Anyways, I believe you about that tarpon on a 6wt. Let me guess, he was on a boat throwing a tiny bait fish or crab pattern casting 20ft with a floating line. Well for striped bass and musky fishing, the flies are 5”-14”. You’re going to need a lot more backbone than a 6wt to cast those flies with some distance. Surf fishing casting a big fly with some wind with a 6wt? Lol good luck....we use 8wts to turn over those bigger flies with some distance. Not to mention heavy fill sink lines. You would automatically know this if you fly fish. Stay in your lane.

      Try Skagit style with OPST Commando heads. Works awesome. No false casting needed. Works with big heavy flies and sink tips. No mess ups like on overhead backcast etc. Effortless, single motion change of direction 70 ft casts. Good luck!

    • @dylanupdyke4616
      @dylanupdyke4616 4 роки тому

      @@davidafo2983 I have that very same set up. The commando head is wicked short! 8-10 foot I believe it was. I have a 13'-9" 8wt. Winston Spey rod with opst Lazer running line and sinking tip. I just feel I need a shooting head twice the length of the commando especially when fighting wind.
