Best striper fly fishing documentary I've watched, and I love the motivation in young kids like us to go out and be the best outdoorsman you can be and there needs to be more kids like that.
I've been a catch, photo and release striped bass fisherman my whole life. I've seen the fishing getting worse for many years now. Gamefish status would be epic! Great job guys!
What a legendary intro the opening scene where you start seeing only water and distinctively hear flyline slicing air and zooming past gaining distance all the while you see a fish break the surface after a strike just amazing wish them luck and strenght to continue this rare motivation rarely seen in today's youth such a good documentary
Well done. Keep the passion for film and tight lines alive. It's so great to see anglers of your generation get what has taken anglers of my generation decades to figure out. Kudos!
Very cool project! My oldest son 11 years old is named Thomas Fremd his largest is about a 12# CNR striper on our local Sacramento and Feather Rivers. His little brother at 9 years old is at 14# CNR. I can’t wait for them to be able to fly fish. I am investigating how to tie 10” streamers and go after the big ones. 👍🎣 Our season for the schoolies is just about ready to start. 👍🎣
I'm 44, and I'm looking forward to this coming striper season as it will be my first on the fly, But I've been a catch an release fisherman and fly fisherman my entire life!!! 💯
Whens the next documentary coming up? C'mon boys, you can't just leave it at that. This project is so important and what yall did with the video was amazing. Keep up the good work.
Thomas Freund for sure, I hear that- schools tough on time! And hey, I'm local to New England so if you ever want to link up and fish let me know. I go to school in northern maine and live in connecticut.
This is an amazing video, I love it! I was wondering what the name of the flies featured in the video were because I'm trying to get into stripers fishing and really liked them.
Erich Frie glad to hear you enjoyed! The main fly we used was called the Beast Fly. It's a bob popovics pattern that's a great bunker imitator. Hope you catch em!
I fish stripers both commercially , and recreational in MA. The fishing is definitely off a bit compared to late 90's- early 2000. The past few years have improved a bit for the large bass, and schoolies can be had on the fly on any given day from just about any shoreline or beach in my area. The biggest change I see in the fishery is more people. One could certainly argue that the increased effort in the recreational fishery is a direct result of the internet. So many videos, forums, fish reports, youtube how-tos.etc. No denying that catch and release kills lots of fish. Places where I used to be able to fish a tide without another person in sight are now shoulder to shoulder fishing holes. I understand that fly fishing is very easy on the fish, but the majority of people are using bait/plugs/trebbles. Massive amounts of bass are taken illegally for eating all season long. I care as much as anyone about the health of the stocks, but I just don't see GAMEFISH only as changing a dam thing. Increased law enforcement(never going to happen), and Stripers Forever fighting for 100% observer coverage on midwater trawlers starting about twenty years ago would have/will make a difference. Give a man a fish and he can eat for a day...Teach everyone to fish and there won't be any left....
Amazing video, fellas. I'm from RI and learned to fly fish in ID/MT. I'm in CO now and coming back home this October in hopes of catching some strippers on the fly. It's so great to see you guys talking about conservation and acting on it as well! Keep up the amazing work and I promise not to keep a stripper if I'm lucky enough to hook one.
I never ever heard of a crash. For any bass species. Here in Bloomington/ normal of Illinois large mouth and even smallmouth can be hard to catch on the fly. But Ponds around here are tough but the creeks and rivers are better here in my opinion
I’m not a fly fisherman but I always catch and release I live in north California we don’t have that much big huge monster striped bass but I got my personal best 31in 20lb on a pencil popper got some pictures and release it same with halibut etc..
do Not WAIT for the fish to hit the teaser popper, or it will turn away and go deep, but cast near or with the teaser as its retrieved , then youL get more hits
Nicely done fellas!! Big up yer chests for this one!! Monster stripers aren't easy on the fly but it's probably the most satisfying and fun thing to do with yer clothes on 👍. Good job!! Jesus loves fly fishermen the most 🙃🙃
people complain about low numbers but remember we are taking there food source away from them through commercial fishing making them a game fish will not bring back the numbers
Cool video besides the push for releasing all the bass. Strippers may be a game fish but they make excellent table fair. Now maybe a push towards the commercial fisheries I would understand but the recreational guys are not the biggest issue... Just saying.
Commercial landings are not the issue, the recreational harvest is considerably greater than any commercial harvest over the last 10 years. Just look at the statistics. They are public... Just saying.
Fishing just to release the catch is a bit ridiculous IMO. The fish is going to die anyway, as it's just a matter of when and how. (Same is true of us humans.) Striped Bass' conservation status is currently "least concern". It's not a threatened or endangered species. The laws of the State of New York do not allow taking stripers unless they are at least 28" but not greater than 35". This is known as a "keeper" or a "slot striper." And the daily bag limit is one fish. I say if you do catch a "keeper", take it home and eat it. It's a good source of high quality protein. (This opinion does not apply to fish caught in the waters adjacent to New York City such as the East River!) Incidentally, the resurgence of the striped bass population has put tremendous pressure of the stock of baitfish that it feeds off. The striped bass is, after all, a predator, like most saltwater fish.
STRIPER forever ....... its never the catch for me it the safe release that get me going ... people always ask me why did you let him go he was pleanty big enought to keep as i let out a big YEE YEE smiling as i let her swim off ... Yea but now i know theres fish in here for the next time i come out .... catch and RELEASE its not an actiin its a MOVEMENT
Tucker.Guard right!!! I mostly catch and release but honestly can't remember the last time I only caught one fish in a day...try 10-15 from false dawn to an hour after sunrise!
That drone shot of the fly getting eaten is SICK. Dope swim-with release too. Solid video guys. Keep it up

Bravo to you guys! Respect. Don't know what was better, the videography or the fishing.
what rod do you prefer for your fishing for Stripers
anywhere from an 8wt to a 12wt! depends on what size flies you're throwing, the size of fish you're targeting, and the conditions.
shortstix all over the place! Love it!
Epic video guys, can’t say enough about that take you guys captured with the drone. Looking forward to my first season chasing these fish on the fly.

Love the edit 🎣
Solid video guys. Keep with it. Same as snook in C.R, but more challenges, less resources. I would love to do some thing like that in my shores...
Great fish. What do you think the odds are it survived after you played with it for so long?
Great job guys! Way to be ambassadors of the sport and draw attention to conservation
That's a monster. good video good footage
What an amazing video guys, keep it up. What was the name of the second song used in the scene walking down the dock?
glad you liked the video, jeff! song is called pioneer.
Were you using the top water w/ no hooks to tease them up then pull it away and cast a fly in front of them? That's wild
That's called cheating. lol

I kinda thought oh wow, rich kids but when you jumped in with your fish that was hella cool! Have fun and keep it up!

Thanks for the kind words! Hopefully very soon, its tough with different school schedules but we're workin on it ; - )
Thomas Freund for sure, I hear that- schools tough on time! And hey, I'm local to New England so if you ever want to link up and fish let me know. I go to school in northern maine and live in connecticut.
You guys remind me of me and my buddy Derek. When we are in hi school everyday we would fish after home work till dusk
This is an amazing video, I love it! I was wondering what the name of the flies featured in the video were because I'm trying to get into stripers fishing and really liked them.

I never ever heard of a crash. For any bass species. Here in Bloomington/ normal of Illinois large mouth and even smallmouth can be hard to catch on the fly. But Ponds around here are tough but the creeks and rivers are better here in my opinion

Too many uneducated stubborn people in this world. Killing 25-40 pound fish every chance they get.
Who is killing fish?

now take the boat away and limit it to the surf...

Worth saving so we could torture it for sport, same logic as Predator saving Alien mum.
I eat hella strippers they taste good af we catch consistent 40-60 pounders down here in the cape every day
Tucker.Guard right!!! I mostly catch and release but honestly can't remember the last time I only caught one fish in a day...try 10-15 from false dawn to an hour after sunrise!
Cape Cod? Cause I will have to agree with you. As far as 60 pounders though, what part of the cape and what one of year haha!
Overwrought, too self-important.
Because your go pro videos are so much better
A little too much hype .
Patrick Brennan Jealous much?
amazing video!!!! Good work!
I kinda thought oh wow, rich kids but when you jumped in with your fish that was hella cool! Have fun and keep it up!
