Thanks so much for this video. I've been motivated to dust off my 30 year old sewing machine and put it back in motion. I never learned to fit a pattern, but with you and technology I'm learning. I follow you on Pericrafters.
It is nice to see this your tutorial thanks for it , am wondering if you have for other parts of garments say : sleeve, waist, hip (shortening/ widening) ... etc
Thank you so much for sharing. I have been struggling with this particular issue and you came through. I need to get a working table like yours, any suggestions?
dziedzormd You're welcome! This is actually a large desk I got from Ikea a few years ago back when I used to have a desktop computer. I got a custom rotary mat made to the measurements of my desk. It's like 33"x61" or something like that. I forgot the name of the company, but I just Googled "custom rotary mats" until I found a place with a reasonable price.
Is there a limit as to how much you can accurately widen or lengthen a pattern? I know it might take some tweeking, but should the basic shapes be the same no matter how large or small (not children's patterns, of course)? Thanks for making these great videos!
Yes, I think there are limits before you can distort the intended design and get yourself into a bigger pickle. Another option is to grade the pattern to the size you need. I plan on doing a tutorial on that soon.
Sure! I got it on Amazon. I've tried different ones and they work the same. So, I go for the wider rolls like this one: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001VDX9DU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You can adjust the width on either side of the dart OR you can adjust the size of your dart. You will have to make a muslin and try it on yourself to determine where to make the adjustments so that the dart stays where it is designed to stay.
I figured this is what I need to do, but was kinda scared to. Now that I’ve watched it done? No problem! 😁

I recommend Joi Mahon's Perfect Fit book (check Amazon). That's my go-to resource for simple fitting.

I have a pattern v8750 that has 8 pcs. Is using this technique a deal-breaker with that many pcs?
It just may mean you have more pieces to adjust, but it may not be too time consuming. You can always baste a muslin together and test the fit first.
Thank you for the tutorial, it is a great help as my hips are 3sizes larger than the top of my body.
Press the patter pieces first so that there are no fold creases!!!
Can you plz show me on what grain how to cut a mermaid dress on fabric
May I ask where did you purchase the long tissue paper?

where should I start I know nothing about sewing
Hi, I was just wondering what about the position of the dart?!!!
You can adjust the width on either side of the dart OR you can adjust the size of your dart. You will have to make a muslin and try it on yourself to determine where to make the adjustments so that the dart stays where it is designed to stay.
why wouldn't add to the outside of the pattern
+Kamiko Dease In my example, it's best to slash and spread so that you don't alter the integrity of the sideseam.
