Must drive over from Truckee to check out that trail. Also was pleased to hear Mt. Huff is an acceptable place to ride e-bikes. Last I sent a note to the Trail managers they said no. Lots of environmental studies showing that e-bikes does nothing more than open up trails to more people - that is good thing in my opinion. Tahoe basin will open up “officially” in the spring.
Just bought an oso from my LBS demo fleet end-of-season sale. It's has totally changed how i ride - going from 1 strenuous 15 mile ride in a weekend to two 20+ rides a weekend. Don't know why I waited so long to get an emtb (oh wait, it's because they're $$$$$ lol)
Been riding Giant Reign for 4 yrs and never touched my analog bikes. Ebikes only for me going forward. The increase in weight took some time to get use to but I prefer the added weight because of the increase traction.
Ha I am like 666. I love my ibis Oso. Thanksgiving morning did 2000 feet of vert and three downhill runs in one hour 20 minutes. Could never have a accomplish that on my regular mountain bike. I am actually pretty impressed about how nimble the Oso feels given that it is a 53 pound bike.
Brian! That cockpit! Range anxiety is a real thing… I ran out on an epic high-alpine ride out in Keystone/A-basin this past October. Thankfully the battery died with only about 5% of riding left to go….The steepest part of the climb to lug around a 50+lb bike!
That's a Sugar Pine cone- World's longest. Three needles per facicle. Jeffrey Pine, which are also present, have shorter generally fatter cones and longer needles, three per facicle and very similar to Ponderosa Pine except the Jeffrey cones are larger and tend to be a bit of an obstruction in the trails at times.
Awesome, thanks Brian. Been looking at that trail curiously for a couple years now. Thanks for showing it. E-Sploring is the best! I'll add that to my E-sploring roster for next season. If you haven't been, try the Forest City trails, just due south of Downieville, for a great remote 28 mile XC loop.
More ebike videos please! I think it would be great for people seeing the benefits of ebikes through your videos, the more you experience them, since you ride so often and didn't initially seem to be into them.
Oh, and the cost. Oh, and that you have to charge them. Oh, and repairs and eventual battery replacement. Oh, and if you have to hike bike with it on your back.
@@grizzkid795 most people hate on them until they try them and they realize how good they can be. Charging them is not that big of a deal. Being able to ride slightly faster without being fatigued and also getting a lot more mileage in on a ride makes it a lot more fun and worthwhile to travel for biking if you're not a fitness freak. And you still get a hell of a workout if you push yourself.
I own an ebike, but use it mainly for trail work and often pulling a trailer. I prefer the regular bike for recreation for all the reasons I mentioned plus I like the feel of a regular bike- more nimble and playful. Also, I just like the idea of simple, human powered biking. My wife loves her ebike and can keep up on the climbs if I ride the regular bike. Now I admit when I get older the ebike may become my norm, but being a young 69, it would be silly to go to a full time ebike. For old guys like yourself I can totally understand going with the ebike.
Thanks for documenting this trail Brian! I wonder why it's marked as a double black though. Apart from it being steep. Doesn't seem to be all that gnarly.
I was thinking the same thing, definitely not that gnarly but every single turn is a chance to fly off the mountain. It's unrelenting with the steepness, gotta ride it to believe it.
Do you use the max lens mod on GoPro? I’m 63 and have the full power specialized turbo levo and love having the e-help. I’ve thought about adding Levo SL but the battery range worries me. On the full power levo I’ve not come close to running out. Enjoy your videos!!
Go ride something new ; it might have nasty climbs but you won’t mind with the e-bike! You are always going blind and I can’t help but feel the combo of nerves and adrenaline . Thanks so much and stay safe ! 😎
I don't really understand the rating system here. Seem like it was 90% of Blue trail with a couple short black spots. How does this become a double black? Most double blacks I see are basically pro lines.
@@LoamReaper it looks so unpredictable in places, rocks , hidden roots etc , it may not be a double black but it’s definitely gnarly , but what a trail 🎉looks amazing
Imagine being hit by one of those pine 🌲 cones 😮 that’s gotta hurt 😂, AMAZING trail Bro 👊🏽 thanks for taking us along, I’m still on my Orbea Rise absolutely love it 540 W 65NM of mtb heaven 👌🏽
I think double black is a decent rating if you're grading on a scale of what's in the area. This thing is relentlessly steep and I would be willing to bet that most people will have at least one crash at some point. I kept trying to let it rip and I kept almost flying off every corner. I'd say it's a black diamond in my mind, but I'd love for you to go ride it and see for yourself!
HELP SAVE THE ZEN TRAIL! From watching your videos as long as I have, I know you are a fan of the Zen Trail here in So. Utah. PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD. The Zen Trail, Bear Claw Poppy and several others are under threat of being destroyed for high density housing. Help stop the development of this area. Agencies are in the final review period. We only have until Dec. 9 2024 to act!!! Even those not living in So Utah can comment on how this is a mountain biking/Tourist destination for you. Access the following link to find out more and how you can help. (won't let me insert the link here, but please all look this up and comment)
I think lots trad MTB riders poo-poo e-bikes for the same reason you mention: the heavier feel puts them off. Then, once you learn to adapt your riding to the bike, you don’t really lose anything to the weight. I’m still on the back wheel of many a fit ripper on the downs, because for those of us that live in both the Moto and MTB world, the ebike still weighs nothing. And we know how to turn!
Heavier feel - then get an SL ebike. In 2019 I demo'd the Specialize Turbo Levo and indeed it felt unwieldy on the downs. I said, take 10 lbs off and I'll take one. And damn they did. 40 lbs, and it's better downhill than my old Evil. There is absolutely no downside. And ignore the trad E bike haters. They just haven't tried one.

Thank you so much for announcing your departure suragencia. When I woke up this morning, I was immediately hit with the thought of whether suragencia would tolerate e-bikes or not. Words cannot describe my gratefulness to know your next move. I feel as if I can finally rest for the year. Once again, thank you.

Yep, Hough is full on eBike up and down!!
I LOVE my Oso! Just got it two months ago and it makes every ride so fun. Thanks for the tour. I need to get back to Quincy.
Very cool!
Awesome Brian .... Thank you for your hard work and dedication to your channel .
Always a fun watch !!!!
Thanks Craig!

This looks like so much fun! I gotta get down to everstoke and then explore all these rad looking trails!

Brian, you going to do a show and tell video of the new Oso? What your experience has been on the ebike and why u went with the Oso. 😁
You know you can charge those bikes to %100 before you go on an epic ride. I’ll definitely need to check that trail out next time I’m in the area!

Yep, I like that one as well! But it doesn't have vehicle to load. I want to be able to use the battery!
Hard to believe there are still e-bike haters. Most must be just joke-trolling. There is simply no downside to a lightweight e-bike.
