Oh my goodness! Mate hands down the best trail bike review/comparison out there on YT today! So informative and I love that you rode the bikes and showed use some awesome riding! I’m in the market for my first trail bike as I’m “graduating” from my trusty hardtail! Thank you again for making such a wonderful video! You definitely earned a sub! Also as an Australian, we’d love to see you ride some of our trails!
The amount of relevant detail provided for each bike in a relatively short amount of time is unmatched! You did a great job of highlighting each bikes' capabilities, strengths, and minor weaknesses. Best trail bike buyers guide out there, hands down. You crushed it! Would love to see even more commentary from Hannah if you do another buyers guide in the future! Can't wait to see how your channel continues to grow---I can see you jumping up to 100k, 500k, 1m subscribers in no time with the quality of content you're putting out there. This guide would have been a perfect addition to my rediculous spreadsheet for deciding on a new trail bike about 5 weeks ago. I wound up going with the Evil Offering (picking up this week) and this review got me even more pumped up!
I do really appreciate that you put equal emphasis on advanced riders and new riders. Highlighting the Canondale for that factor of picking it up, heading out and settling in quick is a pretty important point for someone who worries about a big ticket bike not being too much bike at first.
Nice job! Very well produced and great summary on results and meaningful rider points. For a future compare, I think the 120-130mm travel range with modern geo would be a great next showdown to have. I currently ride a Top Fuel gen 3 and Stumpy Evo and often find myself grabbing the Top Fuel more these days because it is so capable, and if I'm not jumping or hitting a bike park, the short travel 29er category is just a great trail, all mountain option. I've been debating a next short travel 29er to get at some point, and would apprecaite having this level of review done by someone like yourself!
I'm on a Yeti SB130 LR with Cascade Link (139mm rear / 150mm front) now. Wanted to replace it with something a bit more updated. Originally was looking at the Ibis Ripmo, Transition Sentinel, Pivot Switchblade, Spot Mayhem 140, Propain Tyee and Yeti SB140 LR. Didn't really care about the frame storage. However I do like the tool mount on the bottom of the top tube like on Switchblade and Sentinel. After watching the PinkBike trail bike Field Test and then your Trail Bike Byuers Guide, I placed an order for the Yeti SB140 LR. BTW I honestly think that your videos were much more energetic and intertaing than PinkBike. Thanks for all the hard work with these amazing reviews! Bright future is ahead of you on UA-cam! Looking forward for more great content.
I’ve had both bikes. The sb140 felt more neutral (easier to ride at speed) and a little less yeti (less harsh on small bumps or low speed hits). But a little more work on tight turns or with manuals. The trade off was it felt more stable. Also a lot quieter. Hope you enjoy it!
Mo!!! Such a great, thorough, and fair mtb review that caters to all bikers (from beginners to advanced riders)! I am looking forward to more of your reviews and hope to see you on the trails again soon! 🤘🤘🤘
Would love to see another test of the bikes that fall in between the XC bikes you reviewed previously, and this group. (120-130 rear) Also, excellent job with both the XC and this trail bike review. Keep it going!
Thank you very much for putting in all the work for this series. I really like the fact that you consider the different terrains that are available rather than just saying 'this bike is better than that bike'. For my personal use, I think the Ari, Evil and Stumpy would be ideal. I have the Instinct, but I don't feel its potential is met in my local trails which are more XC-ish, no big jumps or drops and minimal tech. Thanks for sharing your time with us.
Honestly I`ve never really liked your videos but you did a good job on this one👍 I`m glad you included the Hugene 2 in the line-up as well because almost everyone leaves it out
@josephlopez7593 Titanium or Aluminum Honeymaker? Those hardtails look incredible in person. I saw one at my local trails, tried catching him to chat but he was flying 🤣
@@johnnyweekend i have the aluminum version bought it from a local shop here in Tucson Az , Jj bicycles, it’s a very different riding Hardtail idk enough about bikes to tell you why haha, but it has a high bottom bracket and the tire is tucked right under you (super short chainstay) so the climbing is awesome hardly if ever pedal strike… I can fit 3.0 tires in it and that’s how I run it have a couple buddies that own one as well. the shop owner has one, just a fun bike the titanium one from what he says is a little stiffer, aluminum version is plenty stiff and it’s a bit tippy only downside but I put a longer stem and man I love it even more now… a unique rig never getting rid of it … and fun to look at 😂

Yup yup I rode my buddy trance x advanced and rode a stumpy 15 I agree the stumpy took it! Your dead on bro keep at it someone out there will really thank you in person on the trail unexpectedly I enjoyed your style on this one
May be just me but that Giant looking good but my local shop have non of them and the alpine peaked my interest. Im saving money for it too😅 may be ill change my mind in future.
Thoughtful reviews and awards. Great job overall with this series. It’s a shame the Stumpy doesn’t allow cable rear derailleur. I like my Shimano drivetrain so that rules the Stumpy out for me.
Thank you!!! Yeah it’s a tough one, personally I like AXS so I’m not affected but I can see that ruling this bike out for some. But rumour has it that Shimano has something coming soon so who knows!
You just wrecked Pinkbike's trail bike field test haha. Much better and more informative reviews. Your reviews feel much more honest, PB is really feeling like "paid reviews" these days (or at least "we only care how the bike rides on the north shore and Bellingham").
These are the few bikes that I’m most interested in testing then deciding what frame I would buy and custom build for my first full suspension in 6 years of being dedicated to hardtail’s and SS MTB’s #1 Pivot #2 IBIS #3 Yeti #4 Transition. Nothing wrong with the other brands but that’s just my opinion for a frame that I don’t mind investing in
You need to test the Enduro from the Austrian Brand SIMPLON their Rapcon seems to have similar traits with their Horst Link Bike as the Ibis HD 6, but it has a storage in the downtube and can often be had in discount for prices like the Ibis frame only. Besides it looks ace.
Hey Mo, thanks for this great review of the bikes... I really appreciate you sharing your wisdom/expertise! You mentioned that the Yeti SB140 LR had what felt like a bottomless suspension.. or something like that. My question for you is whether it's capable at bike parks like snow summit? Also, how would you differentiate this bike from the La Sal Peak? Also, thoughts on the Spectral CF8, when compared to the SB140 and La Sal Peak. Thanks!
It would be awesome there but the yeti sb 160 probably would be a better option for summit! As for the Canyon, I have no idea. Never ridden it but the La Sal Peak would also be a great summit bike! Summit is pretty hard on gear so travel is nice!
I had a feeling it would be the Stumpy, it’s a very well rounded bike, this is why their prices are a little higher(not like Santa Cruz), they keep improving on an already awesome platform. Too bad I’m not in the market for other bike!
If I could only own one bike, it would be a bike with a 160mm fork and about a 64-65* HTA and 76-77* STA. I ride a 150/160mm travel Stumpy Evo which nails it.
Great Conclusion and I personally like how you were able to really describe the best use cases/geographies for each bike. This definitely gives me interest in trying the Stumpjumper, but I'm going to take another look at the Delano Peak too. Thanks for the variety of bikes in your showdown!
So does the delano still feel planted when need be??? I appreciate playfulness but i do want it to feel planted when i do decide to do some tech or the odd park day now and then.. or even just around my local trails when I don't want to be playful I want to be planted
I ride a Delano and it's fantastic. It's a good mix of climb and downhill, and I haven't noticed there being an issue of it not feeling planted. Maybe climbing sometimes in loose and steep terrain but i feel like any bike would be that way in those conditions
Thanks, great review. Would like to see a bike class with a bit less travel… like 120-130 rear - which personally I find makes a better trail bike. Probably 85% of most trail riding time is not dh. It’s climbing or traversing. DH on most any bike is fun, climbing not so much. Most riders are not going to out-ride even a 120-130 rear travel rig on the dh, but these bikes are actually fun to pedal uphill. 140-150 isn’t.
Great Video. Do you think the stumpy is a good bike for me. I race enduro but once or twice a year I race xc? Also I ride up all the trails in order to go down.
Thank you for all these great videos! I was surprised the Ripmo didn’t make the top three. What do you think knocked it down in comparison to the yeti or switchblade (also both efficient climbers)?
@@hannahnash3318 I was curious about this too. Seems like Ibis is usually a fan favorite. I don't recall Pinkbike giving it above average reviews either though.
@@JCaleb3718yeah it’s odd. Many other sources have given it pretty rave reviews. It’s hard to know who is getting paid or free gear tho. I was just chatting with someone who was saying PinkBike likes to choose one popular bike to hate on every year and not to go by what those guys who ride super gnar in BC and also want to be super trendy think. But yeah I’d love to hear Mo’s take on how the Ripmo compared to the 140 and switchblade
The RipMo is an amazing bike!!! I really loved the new one and think it’s the most capable 29er Ibis has released! Compared to the Yeti SB 140 I would say a bit more burly but still being playful and to the switchblade I would say a more beefy version of the switchblade! Unfortunately with that being said a big part it didn’t make the top 3 is sizing. If you watch our review I have been on the size L which on paper is what I would have bought based on reach and top tube. The numbers ended up feeling much smaller on the trails and while I do not like being the guy trying to review a bike that’s too small for me and I don’t think it’s fully fair to the RipMo, it’s how it played out. With the competition being so close and the other bikes fitting me so insanely well that’s just how the story played out this time. With that being said I 100% want to try and follow up my review on the right size as I think that RipMo has so much potential!!!
@@moandhannahtravel thanks so much for your perspective!!!!! I have a feeling it might be my next bike. The sizing thing makes sense. Thanks for all your amazing reviews and I hope to see you and Hannah around SoCal sometime!!!!
@@moandhannahtravel Your review of the Ripmo V3 really made it sound a lot like the V2. I rode a Ripmo for 3 years and know how it rides intimately and it really sounds like the V3 is more of a fixing the complaints about the V2 (clevis shock, lack of support out back, vague front end) while preserving the original formula of a burly-ish quiver killer.
I subscribed due to the excellent side by side montage at the beginning! maybe slo mo on the severe compressions? next time do full power ebikes! nobody but racers will be riding amish style in a year or two.
Best trail bike is always the most efficient! Get to the top with less fatigue allow the rider to perform downhill better. Plus you can always climb one time more because have some stamina left. The prize goes to Yeti
@@moandhannahtravel Thx Mo. I already watched the entire video (Great trail bike guide), but I am sure the time stamps will help other future viewers. 👍
Excellent test. Personally, it's a contest of which bike I don't like the least. After nixing for PF92, SB157, 77+sta, proprietary shock, Mike Sinyard, Switch Infinity, or short cs, I have to go with the Hugene 2 but I could live with the Switchblade. For bikes not in the test I went with the Intense Primer with a coil. The air shock they spec leads to bad reviews.
I don't think Ibis got s fair shake. If the bike is the wrong size it's hard to get past that mental block. That said my top 3 are the: Switchblade, SB140 & Ripmo!
I 100% agree with this. I hate to be the guy reviewing a bike thats not the right size. With that being said if I was in the market for a bike the large is what I would have went with if I went purely on geo but we are going to try and do a follow up review on the correct size!
Imo the sentinel does NOT belong in this category at all. With 160 upfront and 150 rear travel that's already hitting enduro numbers. There are other great transition bikes that are actually "trail" bikes like: smuggler or spur some xc but more than capable as trail bikes.
Thanks Mo and Hannah. Tons of work to make this test as repeatable and predictable as possible. I was leaning towards the Yeti SB140LR, the Ibis Ripmo, and the Pivot Switchblade. Probably skip the Ripmo after this review. You mentioned stack height changes from the 2024 to the 2025 Yeti. That wasn’t a frame change correct? Just more spacers and higher rise bar that got it to where you wanted it?
My aggressive acoustic trail bike of choice is a mullet'd and beefed up SB135. I can take it everywhere, but I have a quiver so I mix up what I ride a lot.
Every bike apparently is “INSANE”, “Poppy” and “capable”. 🤷♂️ Fun review though. Would be helpful to be more specific on what is “Insane” about the bike
@@stuartthomasson5027 hey is this the first video you stumbled upon? This is a series of 13 videos! Also not sure if you saw but there is a dedicated video review on each one of these bikes as part of this series (it’s on the playlist). This is more of a summary!
He is trying to do methodical testing. All bikes ridden on the exact terrain so he could compare their ride character. It looked as though he picked testing areas that had a good mix of rough, smooth, tech etc. It was good to see each bike on the exact same section of trail as we could see how his weight was pitching, the sound the bike was making etc. This was an intelligent thing for him to do.
Best Mountain bike video on UA-cam. Do more videos please.
How would the new Hightower rank here? Have you had a chance to ride it? Thanks
We have no idea, we really tried to get them in this one but had no response. Hopefully in the next one!
Some time stamps would be awesome to be able to quickly get to see the bike one wanna see
Will add soon!
No Santa Cruz Hightower?
Which bike climbs better, climbs better and is faster in descent?
I subscribed due to the excellent side by side montage at the beginning! maybe slo mo on the severe compressions? next time do full power ebikes! nobody but racers will be riding amish style in a year or two.
Thanks for watching!!!
Best trail bike is always the most efficient! Get to the top with less fatigue allow the rider to perform downhill better. Plus you can always climb one time more because have some stamina left. The prize goes to Yeti
Great bike for sure!!!
It would b really helpful if there were time stamps for each bike
There is now!
@@moandhannahtravel Thx Mo. I already watched the entire video (Great trail bike guide), but I am sure the time stamps will help other future viewers. 👍
Thank you!!!
Why jeffsy is not on the list?
Excellent test. Personally, it's a contest of which bike I don't like the least. After nixing for PF92, SB157, 77+sta, proprietary shock, Mike Sinyard, Switch Infinity, or short cs, I have to go with the Hugene 2 but I could live with the Switchblade. For bikes not in the test I went with the Intense Primer with a coil. The air shock they spec leads to bad reviews.
You can’t go wrong with a bike in 2025!
I’ve been enjoying this series and the one right before this but how come the Ibis sounds so noisy? Is that just the norm for that model?
I didn’t think it did, those are some very chunky trails
I don't think Ibis got s fair shake. If the bike is the wrong size it's hard to get past that mental block.
That said my top 3 are the: Switchblade, SB140 & Ripmo!
I 100% agree with this. I hate to be the guy reviewing a bike thats not the right size. With that being said if I was in the market for a bike the large is what I would have went with if I went purely on geo but we are going to try and do a follow up review on the correct size!
@@moandhannahtravel i'm same height as you and i feel like i go back and forth from L to XL in my mind. i hate it.
Imo the sentinel does NOT belong in this category at all. With 160 upfront and 150 rear travel that's already hitting enduro numbers. There are other great transition bikes that are actually "trail" bikes like: smuggler or spur some xc but more than capable as trail bikes.
150/160 Enduro? No. Smuggler is a 130/140 travel bike. That wouldn't fit with the others.
This is a 140-150mm trail bike buyers guide!
@moandhannahtravel yeah the sentinel doesn't fit there.
Yay Stumpy!!
Such a good bike!
After eliminating anything with a press fit BB and superboost what’s left? Pivot would be first one eliminated 😂
A lot of bikes but honestly PF isn’t that bad!
No Norco's ?
Not in this one
Thanks Mo and Hannah. Tons of work to make this test as repeatable and predictable as possible.
I was leaning towards the Yeti SB140LR, the Ibis Ripmo, and the Pivot Switchblade. Probably skip the Ripmo after this review.
You mentioned stack height changes from the 2024 to the 2025 Yeti. That wasn’t a frame change correct? Just more spacers and higher rise bar that got it to where you wanted it?
Correct on the bars of the yeti! All 3 of those are amazing options!! Can’t really go wrong in 2025!! Thanks for watching!!!
Kajak custom fs 150
My aggressive acoustic trail bike of choice is a mullet'd and beefed up SB135. I can take it everywhere, but I have a quiver so I mix up what I ride a lot.
That’s an awesome build!
XC Bikes please 🙏
Every bike apparently is “INSANE”, “Poppy” and “capable”. 🤷♂️
Fun review though. Would be helpful to be more specific on what is “Insane” about the bike
@@stuartthomasson5027 hey is this the first video you stumbled upon? This is a series of 13 videos! I feel like I did a pretty good job describing each bike but if you have any questions specifically that I can help you with feel free to ask? Also not sure if you saw but there is a dedicated video review on each one of these bikes as part of this series (it’s on the playlist). This is more of a summary!
Not a single Trek interesting 🤔
Salut jeune homme si tu pouvais parler doucement ce serait un peu plus facile à comprendre merci beaucoup
Il parle rapidement. C'est vrai.
Hi we will keep that in mind next time especially for international viewers, sorry! If it helps you can try watching at .75 playback speed?
Ride some different trails
Will do
why? His trails are great.
@@trentvlak it was just a remark from a viewer
He is trying to do methodical testing. All bikes ridden on the exact terrain so he could compare their ride character. It looked as though he picked testing areas that had a good mix of rough, smooth, tech etc. It was good to see each bike on the exact same section of trail as we could see how his weight was pitching, the sound the bike was making etc. This was an intelligent thing for him to do. Less intelligent is your comment
@ I understand belay my comment my apologies
you showcase only brands that can be found in bike stores? bruh you're not showing around 45+ other brands of bikes. try harder.
Did you watch the video? There is 2 direct to consumer brands here…
What model is the Specialized you name the 2025 trail of the year? The green one you tested? Nice video and great info
