One of, if not the best fishing video I’ve seen on UA-cam. I like the minimal talking and the recording of the breathing of the divers, the clicking of the various sounds from ocean, and the whale sounds.
Aysah's style is legit. You guys are working hard jamming onos and he's in the back quietly hammering Nabeta and Crab, laughing the whole time. Mental video braddah Mark.
I like the way you guys filmed it and really get me an idea of how big game spearfishing is like! Instead of dramatic music and crazy footage ; ) thank you Mark.
I live in The San Juan Island’s (North Pacific US Coast) where the water is dark, green-clear and cold. Our aquatic life is giant and vibrant. I learned to free emerge’ from Martin Stapanic in 2004-05 and it completely changed my life, more importantly made me a more confident human in heavy conditions, pined to the reef and sand as my board dragged me around. This video is an honest look in to all that. Love This MH!
Wassup Bruddah Mark! Long time no see. Awesome vid! Mean dive action out there on the B.I. Hope to catch you next time you make it back to Lanai! Aloha and much Respect🤙
Hey Erreta! I've been using an Aimrite single roller 120 for reef and shooting Wahoo and like it. I have a 140 double roller that works great when it works, but is pretty inconsistent.I just dropped a bunch of money on an Alemanni 135 for my bluewater setup when I'm targeting big fish i.e. Dogtooth, big Wahoo, Tuna.
Thanks Brad! I would say the average dive is 1:45 when spearfishing. It depends on where the fish is and the depth you are hunting. The longer dives are around 2:30. You just have to pace yourself because you can do around 60 dives per day.
You should not put baitfish around your belt.. Years ago have been attacked by two sharks in Costa Rica offshore waters because at the time I was hunting tuna ,they smelled a fish greasy spot on my wetsuit!..
. Yeah, it just takes once, and it's unnerving at the least to have a shark grab fish on a waist kui. Or worse? You could get bit accidentally and if it's an arterial bleed you die, especially when your far away from a boat ramp or people to help! I know lot's of guys do it, but no thanks, not worth the risk for me. That area I am intimately knowledgeable of I used to do "around the island" fishing trips all the time over the years on my commercial fishing boat. I just love that area, it's like the North Shore of Molokai where I fished and dove a lot throughout my life. Just so lush it's visually stunning and warefalls all over, it's heavenly especially when it's really malia!!!! That side is notorious tiger shark country and breeding grounds!!!! I used to hike all throughout the area and do dives from shore, from way back in the late 60's! I was good friends with the Sproat family. Oldest part of the isle! Really enjoyed being there on my Force 30, and with a flybridge, I had such a good view of all the waterfalls and beautiful scenery! Used to do kona crab nets too!! Black sand makes it darker underwater but it's rarely under pressure there because it's usually rough and white caps and the fresh water run off can make the water very murky!!! In the old days, My friend told me about Hawaiians diving and using pitch forks on big ulua. Sounds a little much, but this was way back.in the 50's and there's a rich paniolo culture all over there so it's not that far fetched!? Lol. Amazing, God's country! Nabeta is excellent eating too!! I have had tiger shark encounters there diving, even had my dive bag, kui and float taken and eaten by one!!! Just gotta be careful. Enjoy it, it's a really special place! No ka oi!!
At the 22:15 mark it sounds like your breath up is a bit "hyperventilating". It may sounds weird out of my laptop but don`t you breath up for 2 minutes and take 2 deep breaths at the end and go down on the second?
Good observation. It's not hyperventilatingas much as it is deliberate and forceful breaths with more spacing between them than what would be considered hyperventilation. When spearfishing you don't get to choose how long you can breath up usually because you're going off of what the fish are doing and acting when opportunity presents itself. You just have to know what your body can handle and make a call in the moment.
@@strikemissions Thanks Mark for replying to the comment. I guess i have to learn a lot more about specific moments/situations when it comes to spearfishing. Would you choose freediving/spearfishing and/or Hard Cardio excercises with breath holding to improve over all Co2 Tolerance?
Epic edit Mark super stoked to see more of this!!!
Thanks man! Been digging your vids.
Yeah, I found this channel through watching Ryan and Justin. Instant Sub'd off this one edit. Very entertained!

The ocean and the forest provide everything, EVERYTHING we need, and we need nothing else. Gorgeous! Thanks Mark!

Man I wish I had this kind of visibility where I'm at. That whale sound is beautiful and haunting!
Kevin Kim agreed! There’s a-lot going on in this video...it’s well done
Absolutely amazing
Dope!
I my opinion the man with the small float has the best setup. Combined with a slip tip less tear offs
Bro! Phenomenal edit and storytelling. If you’re ever on Maui would love to cruise or help you film and catch some footage.
Right on, thanks! Appreciate it.

Mahalo! Yes, hope to get back to Lanai soon!
Kekekoloa.. get your bradda out da dishwasha!
What's the crackling sound, when you're underwater?
Various shrimps and fish make those noises. I think it’s mostly Pistol Shrimp though.
Awesome clip. Question though. Did you guys have to pay for air to fill your floats?
All this money I spend on shimano, all I need is a Clorox’s jug. 🤦♂️
Hahaha
Sorry, but I think the kumu at 26:51 stole the show. Very cool.
Extreme
Amazing :)
Surfing to come up with ideas for LBP agreeable
I’m thinking an enclosed trailer that’s towable is needed...then the gear is all right there...
Do you guys make your living doing this or is this a hobby / side hustle? I would love for this to be my day job!
What was the size of the double roller gun Justin Lee is using?
Do you think whales, dolphins, fish, etc...can communicate to their friends encounters with divers and fishers?
I think the cetaceans do for sure
Great stuff Mark!! Can you say a bit more about the roller guns you are using both for Bluewater and reef dives? Thank you

That was grade A content right there.
What are the length of your 2 guns
I came here for Asa
You always come for Asa
Super cool. How long on average are you holding your breath at a time before coming up for air on these dives?
Thanks Brad! I would say the average dive is 1:45 when spearfishing. It depends on where the fish is and the depth you are hunting. The longer dives are around 2:30. You just have to pace yourself because you can do around 60 dives per day.

Been doing it in Hawaii for 20 years. No problem yet.

Was that whales I heard at minute 15:29?
After watching further, you gave me my answer. :) That is so awesome.
Mark, I have a question. Is it necessary to start so early in the morning? Is “first light” a necessity? I don’t fish so I have no idea. Thanks.
It depends on how much travel time it takes to get where you’re going. In general everything is more active in the early morning and late evening.
You need a 12v compressor....
What size guns were you shooting?
120cm Aimrite roller
At the 22:15 mark it sounds like your breath up is a bit "hyperventilating". It may sounds weird out of my laptop but don`t you breath up for 2 minutes and take 2 deep breaths at the end and go down on the second?
Nope he's fine if only you could of seen what he was riding this past winter at Waimea bay!

Hey man where did you get your hecs suit?
I got it awhile ago from a buddy in New Zealand. It's at the end of it's lifespan though. Got some custom suits on order. Can't wait.
@@strikemissions another hecs suit?
10:00 till they get in water!!!
Did you add fart sound effects at 21:59
