I have owned many systems over the years. From high end competition level systems to ground pounders. You name it. I've seen many units come & go over the years. I very impressed with this one. It was cheaper than the comparable Kenwood & Pioneer. Its nice & fast. No lag at all. The user interface is very easy to use. It has simple bass, mid & treble controls for sound adjustment on the fly but also a full featured Parametric EQ, T/A & active crossovers for the slightly more technically inclined. It has enough adjustability to design a high end system around this unit & enough adjustability to really dial in the sound you want with the full featured processing capability that this unit provides, if you feel the need to tinker the advanced settings. Time alignment xovers & parametric EQ are a snap to learn & use in minutes. Provided you have the technical skills & knowledge to use them of course. The bluetooth works well. The hands free mic is nice & clear. Apple carplay on this unit just tops it off. It's a very nice performing unit, elegant looks, easy to use which is important when you are trying to keep your eyes on the road as much as possible. There is nothing worse than a cluttered display that you have to scan with your eyes to find what you are looking for. No such problem with this unit. That leaves the sound itself. Nice detail & nice tight bass. It has plenty of bass! More than my stock speakers & standard bose amplifier can handle. There is plenty of pre out power to drive the input of an amp. In fact, I've had to dial the bass right back because the speakers couldn't take it. I love this unit. Great unit.
you prolly dont care at all but does anyone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account?
I somehow lost the login password. I love any assistance you can give me.
@Tatum Raul i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
@Tatum Raul it worked and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much you really help me out!
@Dean Jerome happy to help =)
Any Update? Lot of bad reviews
Those of you who haven’t taken time to read through the manual. I’ve had mine for a few months. I have no regrets, it’s an amazing radio. With the exception that at the lowest dim setting it’s still bright at night. Holding the home key in the bottom center of the radio will turn the screen off at night and you can toggle it to be completely dark or show a clock in the settings.
Edit-The radio does not work while the screen is off which is unfortunate.
Double know how to reset it
oscar pastrana It should be in Setup > System > Reset
Dude holy cow your channel is a treasure trove of useful knowledge! Thanks for doing all this man!
Thanks man! I appreciate you watching!
I have one in my Mazda 5 love it do not miss playing CDS
U can play a movie past a 1 gb
Just installed this unit, purchased from Crutchfield. They said it is their top selling unit of all time. I am very pleased, went with the "Power Pack", speakers, and sub. Wow.
Nice!
Any Update? Lot of bad reviews
This headunit is still a beast even if it’s a few years old. The carplay is so fast and responsive!
Agreed! I loved this thing.
Any Update? Lot of bad reviews
@@richhomiekj305which bad reviews? I’m still using it and no complaints eversince.
I recently purchased the stereo for my 99 ford f150 and recently it has just been staying in the alpine splash screen and it Dosent work unless I turn it off and back on. Even that Dosent work sometimes I don’t know what to do since I checked my fuses and everything else looks good. If anyone has advice I would appreciate it
Great review - hits the points I'm interested in. Thanks for putting it together.
Stay away from those $80 Android stereos. This is the real best bang for your buck. My only gripe, not really this model specifically but all double dins north of $200, NO KNOB! I dont care how advance the touch screen is or gestures, if its a stereo in your car it needs a knob. Besides that, not really much to complain about with this unit.
Knobs ? where we're going we don't need knobs.
@@Paramedicpr835 audio knobs are awesome. Especially for setups like mine where I turn it down frequently or up quickly I don't want to stand there punching the plus button 30 times or hold it down for 5 secs
@@Paramedicpr835 that caught me off guard 🧐🤣
True that
Power button 😅
I wish they had it where when you are on FM and want to go to a certain frequency you could click on the current frequency and a numeric keyboard would pop up so you can type a frequency in and click "Ok" or "Enter"
These modular designs should be the normal standard by now--not the exception. Glad to see more models coming out!
Just got this head unit with it’s amp a few days ago, it sounds amazing and gives out a really clean and crisp sound
I really should have bought the amp. The sound was good but the volume wasn't there. Glad you like it! It's a great head unit.
I actually had this exact radio in my cart (along with 3 others I'm looking at) for my '06 GT so this helps a lot lol.
Perfect fit!
@@Rythecarguy How easy is it for someone to steal one of these out of your car?
I ordered one for my 06 as well how did you connect to apple CarPlay? Did you use an extension?
Excellent, concise review!
Just bought this for my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Can’t wait to see the difference from standard unit. Awesome video thank you!
I just bought one for my jeep. How does it work?
You stated your only options were to buy the Alpine amp that attaches to the back or buy a different head unit. You could, of course buy an aftermarket amp with several channels.
True, that was poorly worded. Of I can use the factory amp then naturally you can use an aftermarket.
OK here's my take on this unit.I installed it's decent. My only complaints is the Bluetooth.
Let's say I'm listening to the radio and I get out turn my car off go into the house. The next day I'm talking to someone on the cell phone using my headphones. I get into my car and the Alpine switches my call from my headphones to it's head unit (which is good) but it won't. It will stay in the radio mode and now that I'm disconnected from my headphone I can't hear the person the person can't hear me and the only way I can get it to work is to manually switch the stereo over to Bluetooth. My Pioneer didn't do this it allow me to talk and hear the person over the head unit without me having to touch the deck.
USB technology is outdated. If your using a USB stick/flash drive you will be disappointed. If you have 30 movies on a flash drive and want the kids to watch Finding Nemo, you will have to slowly click one by one while each video load up until you get to your movie of choice. Not user friendly.
I didn’t realize that half the menus to adjust stuff including the freaking clock needed the Parking break to be on. I had to get one of the bypasses so I could adjust the equalizer. It’s a decent radio. I have it hooked up the the alpine 450 power pack amp and focal speakers all around with my trusty old infinity kappa vq sub. I’ve had that sub since 2006 and just move it from car to car.
Best review ive found. Straight to the point and not too long winded. Thx
You're welcome. Thanks for watching and for the kind message.
15w rms for an aftermarket head unit isn’t bad as most car speakers are 20w rms. If you’re swapping speakers out, you’re generally amping them as there’s 1 out of 5 headunits that can push the power component sets require.
If you really don’t want an amp but your speakers to be loud with low power. Get speakers that have a sensitivity rating that’s 93db plus. Even with little power the speakers get loud quick.
Just changed out my Pioneer 1500 for this Alpine. The Alpine is a much better unit compared to the Pioneer. Better sound and the interface is more intuitive to use. Great review.
THanks!
Don't forget to mention the features that are locked out unless you have the parking break on or install a bypass. Like paring a phone or adjusting the eq.
No shit. I literally was just about to buy this thing til I saw parking brake shit. I guess a bypass deal is what you gotta get but even still that info i think would make this unit a deal breaker for most people... it almost seems like he left it out on purpose lol
Nope, I didn't intentionally leave it out. I just installed my radio correctly 🤣
That wake up time is serious... deal killer. The Google Nexus tablet I custom installed in my Xterra 8 years ago was instant-wake and resume when the key is turned on. The factory head unit in my dinky fiat that has tons of features is instant wake. Alpine can do better.
Thanks for the video man!
Thanks for a great review! I just bought this for my Tacoma and am excited to get it. It certainly looks great.
I really liked that radio, I hope you will too. 💪🏻
Just bought this deck for my 2019 ram classic. Amazon best buy and ebay said this deck would fit my classic. For some reason Crutchfield said it wouldn't but they didn't know why. So I went with a pioneer. Go to hook it up and the only way that pioneer would fit is if I started cutting out brackets and other shit. Measured the max depth I could have, 3.5 inches. So the alpine would fit perfect. Called back Crutchfield and they exchanged it for me no problems. Should get this alpine Tuesday.
I use to install alpine products back in the day. Like shaft mounted radios back in the day..lol..we have come a long way. Nice review.
Haha yea for sure, thank you. Even from just a few years ago they have gotten so much better. It helps that CD players are going the way of the dodo.
What? No nav system?..
Just use that car play/android auto homie.
I have this deck. Phone call audio is terrible! Whether through AndroidAuto or Bluetooth, I can't understand people if I'm driving on the highway.
I did update it to the latest firmware.
Anyone else have this issue? Any solution?
Excellent vocabulary 👌🏾 it’s the small things that count
Thanks! 💪🏻👍🏻
Thank you so much! I have had the radio for 2 years with wrong time!
Glad I could help!
just bought mine can't wait to put it in my cruze
How do you like it??? I am also considering this for my Cruze as well so I'd love to know
@@bearxbunny1835 I've had it in my f150 for a year now and I absolutely love it. Greatly recommend the ilxw650
Wow the price jumped! I was considering this for $512.00 off Amazon!
Good lord!
I just bought one at my local audio shop for 399$
Just got mine at Crutchfield for $449.
$329 at Best Buy On sale.
Funny thing is I searched reviews on this radio, and I have the same car as the video 😂
Hell yea!
You will have to bypass the park brake hook up if you have an older car
👍🏻
Ive Connected this one on my 2016 dodge ram but i cant get the Bluetooth to pair i went to settings and my bluetooth icon is blacked out wont open icon
I also have this issue
Just found this great review after purchasing my 650. On the remote chance anyone is still around, I wanted to ask about the buttons. In my 650, they stay on (illuminated) after the radio has been turned off. I'm wondering if this is a wiring issue or a feature that can be defeated somehow. Haven't seen this particular issue anywhere on the interwebs. Thanks, and kudos for the knowledge sharing.
you forgot to mention that it has a glass screen, not a plastic screen...for a $300 price tag, this is awesome.
Excellent review, is it possible to customize the back screen, like removing the ugly blue dots and make it all black with only the icons showing? Like most pioneer that are icons on black screen. Thanks!
Omg I've been trying to change the display for 2 days also 😆
@@erickp2027 Hahaha, if you ever come up with a solution please let me know Erick, have a good one!😉
Love it ,have it in 2 cars and one in a my Tacoma works amazing.
Can it play with the screen off?
@@Rios_Jr /not to my knowledge screen is always on when playing , you can turn the dimmer down , even if your vehicle doesn't have one that is commanded thru the deck and it goes into a darker black and blue , when playing , say like bluetooth music or pandora hopes this helps
How do the phone calls sound on your stereo? I’ve read a couple negative things about phone calls, thanks
what trim ring is that? I need that for a cleaner install!
Yeah, what trim is it? did it come with the unit?
Why doesnt tuneit app work for the ilx-w650
I called Crutchfield and they talked me into this head unit along with the KTA-450 amp to go with it. I am replacing a stock ‘05 Tacoma audio unit which I honestly thought sounded great...hard to believe how insanely cheap the stock speakers are they have a very small magnet on them and look like they are made out of cardboard, lol.
This is going in an access cab not a 4 door so this setup should definitely be more than enough power for inside my vehicle to put a smile on my face. 🙂
I was talked into getting all Infinity with the REF-9630cx 6x9’s for my front speakers with the small tweeters that come with this package to give me truer highs and have the splitters all wired up and ready to go...and the Infinity REF-6532ex for for rear “access cab” doors in my Tacoma.
I do not mind having to plug in my IPhone 11 Pro Max so the wire does not bother me.
I realize the rear speakers are not going to have tons of bass but the speakers in front will have a lot more...not to mention I am also throwing a Rockford 12T Subwoofer in the rear of my truck to simply make up for any bass this particular audio setup may lack.
I finally am almost finished installing everything just need to get the amps power lead to the car battery and ground the other one...and of course splice into the main parking brake sensor on my truck ( I may do a brake bypass in the future).
I really hope I went with an amazing package here. I am definitely expecting this setup to absolutely blow away the cheap stock factory audio unit that came with my truck...and actually my ears are so used to my current stock system sounding awesome with tons of power!!!
This is more than double what a currently have. 😎
i’ll b throwing this bad-boy in my 93 3000gt
What would possibly not allow me to use my equalizer properly? I can only use preset settings… I can’t tune it myself and it drives me insane
2001 dodge ram 1500
It has factory amplifiers in the front doors
No clue, sorry
Thanks for a good review . Looking for a replacement for my stock radio. It won't' be this unit
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching. Good hunting!
Superb review...thanks for taking great care and time.
My pleasure!!
Does the USB option have any sort of file search to locate songs or albums on the usb stick?
1:21 but
Thanks for the great review as well!
Can you watch videos thru the USB?
I would have liked a few moments showing the Android Auto or Carplay interfaces.
Oh, sorry about that. They are the same no matter what unit you use so I generally leave it out.
Ry the car guy - I have a 2007 GMC Envoy Denali... how do I know if I need to purchase the amp or if I already have one? Also, if I get this I want to install a rear camera at the same time. Can you recommend one?
I just installed this unit in my 00 Toyota Tacoma and it worked great after I finished the install but I started my truck up an hour later and put my truck into reverse before the deck started up and it was stuck on the reverse screen and I had to unplug the deck from the back to fix it. It’s been fine since then but if I have any future issues I’ll be sure to update here
any issues so far?
CarPlay audio is distorted and I can’t seem to find a fix. I have an IPhone 11 and am using UA-cam music. I thought my speakers were blown. Bluetooth audio doesn’t distort. Has this happened to anyone else?
So I have a Kia Optima 2013 and I was wondering if I can just use the USB port I already have to connect to the system? Just use that rather than making a whole new port for Apple CarPlay?
Love your review. Thinking about kenwood 4707s . This or that?
You should check out the review I did on the 907s over on my second channel. The interface and such should be similar. I think it depends on what you are looking for. The alpine is much simpler and smaller. The Kenwood will be bulky but full of options. ua-cam.com/video/hcr8NzLYsPs/v-deo.html
What if I have TV's in my headrests. Do they sell an external DVD player I can mount under the seat or something? Can I mirror my phone to the stereos screen?
As far as I know you can’t mirror screens. Not even youtube.
Do you need that alpine amp or can you use after market 4 channel amps or both?
I am yet to be able to watch any videos on it! Added a relay to bypass the parking park but still will not play any videos. Which could just be me not knowing how to do it.
The thing I really hate... when turning the volume up from 0... there is a loud static hum noise, until the volume is turned up loud enough to cover it. I know a couple people that have this unit and theirs hum also. Just not the quality that all other alpine units I’ve had. The size of the unit is def. awesome. It I could get watch videos on it I’d like it a lot better. Then if I could remove the gun I’d love it.
Great video, super informative, thank you.
I have also been trying to connect to bluetooth and it's not lit up to make connection
You havw to plug the phone in for apple car play? I thought it was wireless?
Just installed it into my existing long time 3 amp system. It was a easy swap from alpine 9885 to this one. Sadly the front and rear do not sound. Sub woofer plays and rear fill speakers sound off the head unit itself. Front and rear pre amp outs are dead. Contacted Alpine but they are closed. I'm pretty bummed.
Where did you found the parking break wire in the mustang i have the same system and car and cannot find iy
Very nice review, one question, is it possible to change the buttons color and background? Thanks!
My back camera is reversed, how do I reverse it
I wish the finger gestures worked with apple car play
Mine plays xm radio over my music and can’t turn it off what can I do to solve this problem on the xm I can’t change station or anything
Is the Amplifier required for factory speakers in a cargo van?
I'm trying to figure out why it says my android phone is not compatible with this radio?
when i turn mine on, everything in the set up is faded except connectivity & sound. i cant connect my phone using bluetooth, would you know why by any chance?
Less than 3 inches deep... #TWSS
I need help with this unit please. Once I click bluetooth, it wouldn't allow me to pair my phone and it's grayed out. Also, noticed system, volume and and info are grayed out as well.
That is the Emergency brake lock out. If it was installed correctly, you should just be able to lift the emergency brake and it will unlock the options
Ry the car guy do you have to do this every time you get in the car?
Look on amazon, they make parking brake bypass units for this unit for $15. Wire that in and you can adjust on the fly.
Ry the car guy I am having the same issue I followed the steps of lifting the emergency brake and it’s still not letting me pair the Bluetooth please help
@@diangelgomez9757 i also experienced the same issue. The installer connected the wire to the car handbrake so i can only access the setting when i pull the handbrake. So inconvenient.
How do you turn it off if you don’t want it on while driving?
Does it have an aux cord input? I know it has Android auto and Apple carplay, I am just curious. thank you for any help anyone can offer that.
I’m afraid not.
One other question...
Is there an optional remote control that can be purchased for this unit?
Great review, thanks for the info!!
About to install on my s197 also
Nice. Hope it goes well. I have an install video in case you need it
How do you get into the system button. My is not highlighted
How do i change the stations from USA to Oceania? Please assist.
Was about to pull the trigger and buy this but realized it doesn't support radio rds to display song name and radio station ID..... entry level aftermarket radios have had this for the past 10 years so why did they not include it???? In my opinion 300 is too steep for missing that simple feature for 200 I would look past it but 300 come on....
Can you arrange/delete/hide home screen icons? the XM icono for example... I'd rather not see it if I don't use XM. And I might want to arrange the icons in a different order.
nope can't change it
Yeah there's zero customization which is why I say the technology is outdated.
Same thoughts here. I don't use Apple so I don't need the iPod icon either.
So this radio will not work with a vehicle that did not have a factory amplifier, unless you purchase a separate amp for the radio?
Oh it will! I was just saying that you might want to get an amp if your vehicle does not have a factory one.
Why does mine not let me select Bluetooth settings, or volume or system it just lets me select sound
Need a receiver that shows all saved stations at once and not the FM1 FM2 FM3. Is there one?
I am looking to purchase my first stereo system and so far Im thinking of going with this head unit. Is it necessary to purchase the alpine amp along with this radio? Should I just look for another radio instead or am I fine not having an amp? Please help and thanks so much
How so u change the background color???
Forced to use the strap on the back alpine amp or get another radio? It has pre-outs in the back hence the fact it’s a plug style for the outputs.
Does this have screen tilt?? The installation is super clean but I'm having trouble accessing the bottom controls.. every other Alpine I've had has this feature. But I can't find it on this one..
Any help?
How does vidoes look on it
Does this head unit allow you to connect your factory back up camera & steering wheel radio controls?
Yes
@@riverisbland6111 I ended up buying it and it’s a pretty decent head unit. I like the fact that it’s NOT made in China.
@@joeshmoe8952 can u give a quick pros and cons list plz, im thinking of buying this.
@@Rajnaik57449 Pros is that it came with a small amplifier for the highs that attaches to the back of the head unit so a thief won’t see it and it won’t take up room. It also has the apple car play, siriusxm radio controls from the head unit, it has the ability to connect your car factory reverse camera, car factory steering wheel volume & channel control buttons, easy to figure out even with out reading the owners manual. The cons would be it doesn’t come with a remote, doesn’t play cd’s, doesn’t have the ability to change the background picture on the display. I really like this head unit and give it two thumbs up.
@@joeshmoe8952 thx alot dude appreciate it
Does the volume only go up one notch at a time when you swipe. My car does not have steering wheel controls.
will it screen mirror
I'm not able to open my settings why is that?
Also crutchfield says I have to replace my 2 amp speakers for at least 4 amp speakers or else it would burn out the unit. True or false?
I plan on getting this for my 2007 mustang GT. Is it plug and play? I have the shaker 500 radio on my GT as well. Can I get the amplifier with this radio? Will it work?
no, it will only be plug and play if you were to buy another ford radio to replace your existing radio. You will have to wire this one up. You can get an amplifier with this radio yes.
Is there any way at all to change the background on the home screen or customize how it looks in any way? it look like an amazing unit but that homescreen just looks really tacky. I'm trying to make it look as stock and clean as possible
I had issues finding the right dash kit for 06 mustang for my older stereo. I ordered ilx-w650
With kta 450, what dash kit are you using. Your dash looks like mine. Thanks
Why are so many features grey'd out? Where does the USB plug in ?
You likely did not wire the handbrake sire correctly. You need to have the handbrake on to access all the features. its BS "protect you from yourself" stuff that companies put in there. You can install a bypass as well.
On my settings, I can’t select any options like volume, system, Bluetooth, camera, information. Only sound and connectivity
Same do u know how to fix it
I have pioneer head unit it came with the truck. It doesn't turn on, any idea what could be, or they are known for short life.
No, it should run fine. I would check fuses first, if those are good I would pull the radio and check the radio fuse (if it has it) and if those are goo I would check all the connection on the back of the radio. If they did not use harnesses to install it and just cut all the wires then you might have something loose. If you check out one of my radio install videos I walk through the wiring side of things.
