  • PDF plan added. In this video I am building a benchtop jointer. I used my hand planer and some woods. It is very handy and awesome. The woods are now smooth and slippery. After watching this video you will be able to easily make a benchtop jointer.
    ➤PLEASE USE A PUSH STICK, FOR THE WOOD SLIDING.

    Many thanks for a great video. I would like to continue seeing your posts so, please, use a push stick to feed your timber into the planer. I would hate for you to loose some fingers! Thanks again.

    Great build, but to be effective, you need to plane the face first, then force that face to the upright fence to plane the edge at 90° to the face

    Great idea and a great video.I only hope you use a push block and/or stick when you are normally using these tools. You slipped once and almost put your hand into the that spinning blade. Not a good thing.

    Very nice job but as someone with 30 years in the furniture building trade, you seriously have to learn how to use a surface planer.
    You will loose your fingers garenteed.
    You never push through the end with your fingers, you always transfer your hands to always push through your work piece at the front of the blade.
    Also as a safety measure, try to not plane a length less than 300 mm in length. (yes, sometimes this is not practical).
    Trust a tradie when he says planer blades will grab and throw wood faster than you can stop your hands from falling into it's blades.

      Ha Ha it’s better than the planer taking his fingers! 😉 seriously though, even professionals get so used to their power tools that they get a bit lazy and end up losing fingers. It’s why the table saw is such a lethal tool. Most use them without the safety guard. Normal jointers on the other hand have a safety bar that is left in place by most sensible users.

    • @NeoMorphUK
      @NeoMorphUK 5 років тому +1

      Ha Ha just watched again and that thumb is sooooooo close to being minced.... would be easy enough to add a safety bar and feather boards.

    • @HaHa-sh7cu
      @HaHa-sh7cu 5 років тому

      @@NeoMorphUK yes, for sure and I seriously don't understand why a lot of these guys don't use the guards. I'm not The Safety Police but being in the trade I have 4 close coworkers who had lost index tips or thumbs over the course of their time.(good luck looking for dirty diced fingers that have been spat out the other end of a saw, planer etc.) I've always had the mentality of respecting machinery, it's a hungry beast. As you say, I often have to keep myself in check when my mind starts wandering off what I'm doing. So easily done.
      Cheers👍

    Interesting project, well executed, although I do wonder about the gloves. Only criticism I might have is that you seem to be aggressively vying for the nickname "Stubby" when you demonstrate the use of your creation. Do they not believe in the use of push blocks to keep your fingers away from the really sharp, really, really fast moving blades where you are? [We all know there's no such thing as an "Idiot Proof" device, but lawyers have to make a living. Right? So, even with the: "PLEASE USE A PUSH STICK, FOR THE WOOD SLIDING" disclaimer, I really do hope there are no "Ambulance Chasers" (American Idiom) that are watching this. They'd have a field day filing lawsuits if someone injured themselves following this otherwise excellent video's instructions to the letter, especially the demonstrated use of the device.]

    I really like that. I was thinking of getting a foot pedal for this before you mentioned that you are using one. That's a perfect idea. I would build an enclosure that would keep things from falling on the pedal and activating the planer by accident on mine too. I have a tiny shop and sometimes things tend to fall over and I can just see a plank I'm getting ready to surface; hitting the pedal and triggering the planer.

    that came out nice, it’s simple, strong, and works great. i like it !
    the only thing i wouldn’t do is run crap pallet wood thru it and take the chance of chipping the blades. because then they’ll need sharpening and that will remove a lot of material for nothing. plus it’s hours worth of your time.

    Very nice project. It looks easy to implement. BUT, far too many advertisements!

    Nice job, it's motivation for me to see how easy to build it. By the way, to me it looks like that your knifes are a bit damaged.

    Thank you so much. Simple yet fully functional. I thought u would give simpler solution to blade guard. And the receiving plate i am not getting a board with perfect thickness match. Is it possible to retain original plate and build? All your videos are really great and as simple as they can be. Thanks once again. Love from India.

    Yüreğim ağzımda izledim Tehlikeli is yapıyorsunuz parmaklarinizi bicaklarin üzerinden gecirmeyiniz onun dışında güzel bir jointer oldu kullandığınız planyanin markası nedir...

      Merhaba, o kadar endişelenmenize gerek yok. Şerit testere kullanmaktan daha tehlikeli değil ! Ancak videoda durum biraz tehlikeli görünüyor. Kameranın açısından mı anlayamadım. Düşündüğünüz kadar tehlikeli bir durum yok. Zira bıçaklar kapalı, bıçaklar açıkta olmadığı için elimi sürtmek istesem de bunu yapamam. İnsanlar bu konuya çok takıldı. Aslında hatalı olduğumu da kabul ediyorum buna izin vermemeliydim. Planyanın markasını yazmak istemiyorum. Kçtşda bulabilirsiniz.

    Лайк за станину. Ручки под зажим продольного упора надо-бы побольше диаметром сделать, и по лезвиям где-то щербина есть: на 13:13 - 13:17 видно...
