The Performance Cruiser Has Almost Disappeared Completely

- Where have all the full size performance cruisers gone? We used to have all kinds of options from Harley-Davidson, Victory, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki. Today to find anything in a cruiser that has any kind of performance you're stuck with a mid sized motorcycle. The mid sized bikes no doubt have the horsepower but the displacement they lack means they don't produce the big torque the big twin cruisers have. Not mention it's very hard to even just find a big twin cruiser that's not a Harley-Davidson, which even Harley-Davidson has scaled back their cruiser line.

What do you think happened to all the off the show room floor ready to run, big horsepower and torque cruisers?
the buyers pool has been infected with the dumb ass. it's a cruiser but for some reason , many want to just have more than next guy. stoopid. i ride alone and could care less what someone thinks about my ride. it suits me fine. i ride for peace and joy not racing anywhere.
the dealers wringing folks out for collateral fees stopped me from buying new again. deal was not what we originaly agreed on and i took a bath. but i still have the bike and as a reward to myself , i bought the bike when i quit smoking. my bike was less expensive than my cigarettes back in 1997. still non smoker!
@@KevinFreist congratulations on the stop smoking that's awesome
Yes your right....Honda VTX 1800C...Yamaha Road Warrior and 1900 Raider...All great Power Cruiser...
Upselling. Most likely that they try to sell the "Better" thing. I see a lot of the adventure bikes at my local dealers and not so much cruisers. In fact if my local dealer has a Harley they will sell it to a Harley dealership in their network or send it to auction. Cruisers are going out as younger generations want speed. When the market calls for it again I am sure you will see the increase of cruisers being on the market.
I like options, that why I ended up with a Heritage with all quick detatch mounting so I can go from a stripped down cruiser to a touring machine
One of my FAVE bikes ive test ridden- for my personal taste I wish Harley did something in between it and the Lowrider S. Chopped fenders, blacked out and still the full size tank and wheels like a Heritage. Just my 2 cents
@@jayteesgear I have a short video of my Heritage on my channel. It doesnt look much like a Heritage the way I have it set up. Have you ever checked out a Softail Slim?
The same reason I picked up the Sport Glide...and now it looks like it's been put out to pasture by Harley. Love this bike and will never sell it...
Maybe a pricing issue ? Here in Europe in this segment a Harley is what people want. It used to be that the metrics were significantly cheaper, so they sold based on price. But as thet got bigger the price got too close to a that of real Harley, so people got those instead. No-one will pay 20000 for a Honda cruiser when you can get a Street bob or Low Rider S for the same money.
Honestly, manufacturer’s are being held back by the constraints of EPA standards. Why does Harley not make a built to the hilt performance machine is easy if you live in California and see how it would be impossible to put it on the showroom floor due to CARB regulation. Harley built a bike that could be sold in all 50 states to capitalize on all possible sales. The metrics most likely got to a point as well as not being able to build the power people want at the cost of EPA. It would be insane to think these companies don’t know what the riders want but I think we live in a different world now where people voted in certain positions think it’s their job to tell us what we should want. Ha I ranted… oh well
I'm a bike mechanic up in Canada, I started out working on hondas, moved around a little for the next decade or so, yamaha, Kawi, harley, KTM, victory. Pretty much worked on everything, and met all kinds of riders. I think part of what killed the big metric cruisers was simply lack of passion for the brands. Limited color/variation for each given model didn't help matters either. The whole "harley lifestyle" is definitely a thing, and I've seen it many times. A bike would come into the shop in pristine shape, then I find out it's 8 yrs old and has a shitload of miles on it. I wouldn't see that working on metrics.
i have a 26 yr old Suzuki that i bought new in 1997. it still looks and runs like new. has over 60k .rode it for 10 years w no speedometer cable. daily rider. has a belt drive now .
@@KevinFreist cool, I finally got a bike of my own late last summer. Picked up a 2013 wide glide. I wish I could put on lots of miles like you, but up here our riding season is about 5 months. I might have to move somewhere nice lol
I get that completely, I worked in metric shops and Harley shops myself over the years. I'll be at the races and walk through the bike parking and I have to do a double take on some of the shovel heads. You'll walk right by those bikes since they look like the new ones then realize it ain't a Twin Cam. Some of those old bikes still look brand new today!
@@brando81 oh , northerner!
yea i live in paradise. tampa fla.
True..... Harley's are known for reliability...
Never leave you stranded on the side of a road.
"Sarcasm"
Its always a question of definition. one could look at both the Triumph Rocket 3 as a cruiser albeit not a V2 motor and Ducati Diavel as performance cruisers
The Yamaha XV1900 bikes (Stratoliner, Roadliner, Raider) are going to become very desirable machines in short order.
Always good entertainment and info from this channel. For me it's the VROD all the way . Now with metric it would be a modified warrior, wide and low rear tire with a bullet fairing and drag bars . I would think alot would agree that Harley does what they do just for more money instead of an all out performance machine . Damn shame they ended the VROD
I think that the arrival of the hot rod bagger really pushed out the performance cruiser in the new bike sector. I made the switch with the arrival of the Road King Special in 2017. I would argue that club dyna’s are still really popular especially with all the aftermarket options for the older twin cams. They are all over SoCal.
I remember back in the late 90s early 2000s there were some mean metric cruisers though. Alas though… Harleys are a labor of love. You either love’em or you don’t own them. It’s as simple as that.
Why did it disappear> my guess is people want to be spoiled, there are a lot of pusses anymore on bikes and they want a rolling couch not a bike. They talk about wind therapy then gripe about helmet buffeting etc lol all have windsheilds...just my 2 ents
I think of the touring bikes today and guys going cross country on rigid shovels and pans back in the day.
@@GixxerFoo hell i wish we could go back
The “metric manufactures” are staying in their own lane and doing what they do best. Harley should take note and stay in their own lane and do what they do best. stop pursuing electric bikes and other greenie wennie ideas.
damn, you sound like a harley guy who doesnt like progress. Electric is the future, theres no stopping it
For the cost you could get a harley. Why buy a wanta be harley when you could get the real thing.
Some people don't want oil stains in their garage.
Lol good point, the new ones don't leak fortunately.
You get the assurance of parts availability too!

Ducati Diavel.

Both bikes will eat anything 'mercan out of the box, stock..
Harley hates cruisers too. They offered around 20 models in 4 frames just 5 years ago. We're down to just 7 models in 2 frames. If they keep canceling models there will be nothing to buy except grandpa baggers. Harley is dying.
Got back into riding recently and ended up getting a 2011 Raider for pretty much the same reasons as you covered. After looking at my options, I wasn't ready to INVEST in a Harley-Davidson or Indian, so the Raider fit all my needs. Loads of torque and power, elegant styling, and a great overall ride, so I'm highly satisfied with the purchase. I got lucky a got a one owner bike who took excellent care of the machine. Would have been nice to have more options.
I remember when 1000cc motorcycle was a huge motorcycle all these guys who need a huge motorcycle seem to be compensating for other inadequacies 1000cc bike that puts out 100 horsepower you should be more than adequate my BMW 100/17 my 1977 put out 77 horsepower and wood Cruz at 125 miles an hour at 100 miles an hour it was only running at 5,000 RPM and smooth as silk and as always cool running as an airhead BMW never get hot unless you run it out of oil and they run forever they outlive their owners more than one
I've never been a fan of baggers, might as well just be in a car. I've got a vtx1800 and a Dyna Fatbob. The vtx1800 is an absolute monster and my favorite one to ride.
Totally I agree
Same here. I love my '04 VTX1800. It's my all-time favorite bike and I've been riding since the mid 70's.
So if a bike has storage it is the equivalent of a car? Your statement makes no sense.
I have to laugh at this Harley and the other think that one horsepower per cubic inch is a big deal yet the British manufacturers in the fifties were getting 40 horsepower out of 40 cubic inch bikes and that was with a single carburetor 70 years later they hardly do any better add a 40 horsepower 650 that weighs less than 400 lb is too many more desirable than these bikes that weigh 600 or 700 or 800 lb a lot of the big bikes nowadays they outweigh my metal sidecar rig not to mention the heat given off by such a big motor twin cam for notoriously hot a red 100 degrees hotter than an Evolution motor all the air-cooled fuel injected bikes run so hot they burn their Oil Away you tear down the engines and you can see the result of all that heat
Harley Davidson should start building a product that will just keep running less performance . M8 crap ,non timkin bearing twin cam crap ,
Evo saved the company ,build a motor that will preform and last like a evo !
But again I still ride my old ,slow ,underpowered panhead !
We still have the Suzuki Boulevard m109r

Sales rules. If they don’t sell well then they get discontinued. And they aren’t really given much time to prove themselves on the road. In the end bean counters killed them.
I never realized how nice the Yamaha Raider is, light & fast. I’m sure there’s plenty of them out there, looks like a great bike!

The reason they are called cruisers is that they are for cruising, you can’t turn a battleship into a speedboat.
The best part of the power cruiser is the raw torque, when you get that big torque down low they are a blast to ride.
🤣🤣 thats a good one, im completly with you! 😀
You dont race with a cruiser.
I think the performance cruiser is still alive and well! In the likes of the Ducati XDiavel, Triumph Rocket III R/GT, BMW R18 and moto Guzzi California 1400.
Hes referring to V Twins
Triumph Storm
97hp 115ftlbs torque ,little over 700lbs
The riders got old! The older folks wanted bikes that were more like Suburbans, not hotrods. How long since you seen a kick bike... no battery?
It is probably all about marketing. However, you forgot to mention the biggest cruiser of them all... the Boss Hoss, weighing in at 1300+ pounds and carrying a 502 cubic inch big block Chevy producing 600 hp. I think you can still get a custom one these days to your liking. Also, don't forget the new kink of the cruisers, Triumph Rocket 3. Seriously, who needs a 2.3 Liter motorcycle? LOL!!!
* king - stupid spell check!
When I decided to move up from my rebel 500, I was very disappointed when I found out the only “big twin” cruiser Honda offered was the Fury. I’m not too big into that style , so I looked elsewhere. The only other non Harley or Indian bike was the m109r, which I don’t really like that style either. So I went with Harley because of the dyna line which us perfect for what I want. I had an old vtx 1300 and if Honda made big twins like the vtx still, I would’ve just went with Honda.
I've never actually seen a v twin "performance cruiser" A v twin is just not a performance engine, especially if you are talking about a single crankpin version. The first non Harley cruiser I am aware of is the 1976 Kawasaki KZ900LTD. Then in 2007, Kawasaki came out with their "first" performance cruiser, the Vulcan 1600 Mean Streak. The KZ900LTD, with just slightly over half the displacement, was faster. Then in 1985, the 1200cc Yamaha V Max came along. Now we had a real performance cruiser. But it was a V4 not a v twin. We still have the Suzuki M109 BOSS, which is certainly faster than any Harley or Indian, but still easily beat by the first generation V-Max. My former 1980 Yamaha XS1100 Special was faster than any v twin, but was not called a "performance cruiser" A couple of the fastest Japanese v twins have been smaller displacement bikes, like my Vulcan 750 and the Suzuki Intruder 800. Those 2 bikes easily blew away the Vulcan 1500 and the Intruder 1400.
Harley is the problem with Harley. They just can't leave things alone. They have to constantly "evolve". Every time they come up with a "winner", they decide to upgrade it. And every time they upgrade: the cost goes up, sales go down. I wasn't born a millionaire and I sure as hell won't spent $30-$40,000. for a motorcycle.
DON'T LIKE the DIRECTION HARLEY is GOING, NOT FOR ME. NEW GENERATION HAS ZERO INTEREST IN HARLEYS, NO MATTER WHAT HARLEY DOES. IF they THINK this ELECTRIC GARBAGE is GONNA BRING MORE YOUNG PEOPLE INTO their MARKET, NEVER GONNA HAPPEN. As FAR as GETTING MY GENERATION INTERESTED , NEVER, NEVER, NEVER , EVER GONNA HAPPEN. I'll WALK, BEFORE I EVEN SIT ON or RIDE an ELECTRIC APPLIANCE. HARLEY WILL BE GONE BYE BYE IN 10-15 YEARS
Hello fried, out of this video subject. Regarding the Harley S.E. set cam plate and oil pump, does the SE oil pup deliver more oil flow or volume than the stock, the reason I’m asking is because I am planning to install a 60% larger oil cooler with fan and temperature sensor on my 110 CVO.
Thank you, and truly.. I enjoy your videos, they are great!
Are you sure the 110 puts out 80 horsepower? Some websites say it produces 92.5 horsepower, the Twin cam 103 High Output 80 horsepower according to some websites. Anyways great video!
Sport touring ..adv bikes...looking myself to add one to the pile...pan American showing up late ...
I think it simply comes down to cost, not only of new Harleys but everything in general, housing, new trucks running you over 70k,, etc.. Everything is going up but pay. not so much money to play with leftover because of it. They might not be "badass" but someone can go buy a mt-10 yamaha that absolutely rips for 10k. More of that toy price Range for many. 🤷♂️
a muscle cruiser? i've ridden honda, kawasaki, and harley. the boulevard i rode once, was not mine, it was a friend's, and she wanted to ride on the back.
my current ride is a 103 fatboy, so far the biggest engine i've had. it is a lot of fun, but not very fast. it will cruise at 80 to 90mph on the interstate without issue.
my fastest bike, was the kaw 900 bored and sleeved to a 1200, it was a drag bike, 0-130+ in 9.50 sec, in 1/4mile. never been on the street.
i hear the CVO breakout with the 110 is a beast, but i haven't ridden one. i have heard a 114 breakout with drag short pipes on it run. i was not impressed.
my 103 sounds better (in my opinion). my 87 1100 honda shadow was a big V-twin metric in it's day.
why has this line of bikes been dropped? in my humble opinion, because more young guys prefer sport bikes.
the bike is fast, they can drag their knee in the corners, and they can pick it up if the drop it. many can't pick up a 700 or 800lb bike without help.
last but not least, i dont see as many women wanting to ride as i use to. at 60, i see the sport touring bikes zipping around, with the rider in full gear, wearing a safety vest.
not a lot of sex appeal in all that. oh well, i'll continue to enjoy myself out riding, sleeveless t, jeans, no helmet, just sunglasses, and a windshield.
i do put throw over saddle bags on every bike i ride. that way i have rain gear, if needed.
have fun and be safe!
A company has to position itself where the market will be about 10 years in the future. Currently the Boomers as a motorcycle rider market are disappearing through death, health and old age...and are giving up riding. The next generation: Gen X is relatively small but gaining in income. The millennials and Gen Z have relatively little money and are more interested in smaller more agile bikes that are not considered an Old Man's bike: like a Harley. With that said there is an exception and that's the Shovels and Evos as choppers; and these older chopped Harleys are considered cool and edgy by the Gen X crowd, and therefore not an "Old Man's" motorcycle. Harley made the right move to phase out the Evo Sportster for the Sportster S in order to comply with the Euro emissions. Since most European countries impose a VAT tax: new cars and motorcycles are incredibly expensive. It would behoove Harley to move all assembly and production overseas in order to slash production costs. Triumph did this by moving its production from the UK to Thailand: keeping it's headquarters and R&D in Hinckley, England. Harley should also consider phasing out the current Oil Cooled and partially water cooled Big V-Twin engines and replace them with a larger Revolution Max engine that can be found on the Sportster S and its Adventure Bike. This would go a long ways to meet the ever tightening emissions being imposed in the EU and in California. Harley should also consider replacing the Belt Drive with a Drive Shaft because of its lower maintenance which would improve overall reliability. Some torque is lost on a drive shaft in comparison to the chain, but much less torque is lost on a drive shaft compared to a belt drive.
I loved my Yamaha Maxim X. 1985. 700 cc 80 hp. Not sure what the tourq was. Thing was quick and fast.
Lol. You say not going outside Indian or Harley for a performance cruiser is a bad thing.
The King of big displacement cruisers is a triple, the Triumph Rocket is the King of the hill.
I love my Milwaukee 8 Softail but it’s Not a True Performance Cruiser, unless one adds a Stage kit at a huge cost increase
Beats the shit out of me, the notion I'm going to ride a 900 pound moto bago parade bike like a Ducati is anti logic, who came up with this, and why on earth is Harley making a Paris Dakar rally bike who ordered that, yes give me a performance cruiser anyday, not a V-Rod 2.0, aka Sportster S
Well.. I just bought a Dyna low rider. This is bike #23 for me. I lean towards the big cruisers because I’m not a real big man and I like power. Then I put a detachable windshield on it that will never come off because they are a good thing. Then I added some detachable saddle bags that will never come off because I have some mandatory gear that I always like to have like rain gear, leathers, windshield cleaner, little water and maybe a few tools. And a bike cover if I’m riding to work. Possibly a external security system…maybe like me, the market has matured and understands you really need some storage to have more then a bar bike. I don’t know.
I'm a performance cruiser kind of guy. I think that performance cruisers were a trend in the 2000's but sales have really fallen off in the past 10 years or so. Motorcycle sales in general have slowed over the same period, so it's probably a cost cutting measure to boost profitability. That's my guess.
Yeah motorcycle industry has been a hard slump ever since the 2008 recession it seems like.
Forgot to include Ducati's Diavel/XDiavel with 160hp and 93ftlbs and the Triumph Rocket 3 with 165hp and 163ftlbs. Actual buyers always determine the market for what is produced, manufacture's are only willing to produce what isn't selling for so long, so people just weren't looking for what the big performance cruisers were offering. The "mid size" cruisers offer greater performance (acceleration, braking and handling both slow and higher speed and dare I say top speed) which is why they have enjoyed a longer production run. But motorcycling preferences are always shifting (look at the rise of the bagger, the scrambler, the death of the 600cc sport bike and now the rise of the adventure bike), I'm sure big performance cruisers will be seen again.
The ADV bikes have pretty much taken over everything these days, I'll be getting to the cruisers that didn't follow the Harley look. They often get overlooked in the cruiser market.
Although I have several Japanese bikes and love them there is only one real V-twin cruiser brand in my mind, HD. metric cruisers tend to be fugly and all get-out and lack personality, in my humble opinion.
This is a question? What do you think happened? HD crushes the competition. Always has, always will. This is a segment where riders want "the real deal".
Nothing hurt the Vrod, fool! The Vrod destroyed the Warrior and M109! My Vrod smokes the tire off in second gear!

Manufacturers are always trend followers not trend setters, and sadly for the most part they follow way behind. The aftermarket and used market are what sets trends. I think the better question would be what started the trend and how do we as consumers get it to come back around.
I can only afford 1 at a time. My huge bagger, may not go off road outside of that it can bar hop it can grocery get it can bike night and it can go across the county. All in pretty nice style and comfort.
Indian chief Dark horse . 116ci. 120lbft tq.
it is weird how they disappeared. i had a 1995 1400 intruder and it was great. also had a 1995 honda 1100 shadow. both were classic cruisers. sort of sad they are mostly gone. i dont like to carry passengers so not a big deal as to that. makes the bike look dorky with a passenger and you are adding over 100 pounds which kills your power. good info man.
What happened to performance cruisers? I don't care. I have a Low Rider S.
Miss nothing metric.
Before I could afford Harley-Davidson, my 4th bike and my 1st brand new one was a 2003 Vulcan 1500 Classic, it was a great bike and made alot of trips to sturgis. Then switched to Fatboys until last year when I bought a new SGS and absolutely in love with It!
I like riding with empty pockets. I need somewhere to put my wallet, cash, etc etc. that’s why I went with a bagger. Hot Rod bikes don’t catch my eye like they used to. Lol. Great video. I do wish more bikes in that segment were like that Vulcan 2000. What a monster. Had the chance to buy one and didn’t. I regret it to this day.
I loved my Suzuki M90.
Surprised a few Squids.
M109R is still being made.
VMAX was made up to last year.
That M109R is about the last one on the hill, that bike is no joke either!
Buying a Harley is just the down payment for all the options you will buy in the future
I think the performance cruiser really started with the mighty, mighty VMax back in the 80s. But it's hefty price and rigid adherence to it's design, it was a brightly burning candle.
Anyway the real problem was bureaucracy, regulations and emmission standards. Big bikes were just killed by committies for being too fast, too loud and too thirsty.
That Vmax was 150 horse in 1985, it's been a monster for years and then they updated it with 200 horsepower. I agree emissions and going electric is killing all the markets these days.
Oh yeah the Vmax is my favorite big cruiser
If they were still in production i would definatly look at trading in my Superglide C.
The big hit muscle cruiser before the vmax was the V65. But really they were both liquid cooled V-4 motors. Foo is talking about v twin metric bikes primarily air cooled.
I`ve still got my V-MAX, it`s been sitting in my living room for about 7 yrs. It was getting uncomfortable for me due to my age I was only good for about 90 miles before my back and shoulders give out and I was beginning to lose my fear of it. I can`t seem to sell it. So I bought myself a Harley FXSTS about 10yrs ago and weaned myself off the V-MAX before I killed myself. Maybe get a Roadglide next.
Everything has time in the sun!! Rat bikes, Choppers, and mid size bikes. The main issue I see is for mid size motorcycles is they were narrow in scope for use. Same as listed above. They had their time and place.
Most today want the protection of a fairing or large windshield. Bags that can be locked for storage to carry clothing. Sound systems. Cruise control and navigation. Not many can afford 2 different style bikes. So which one wins out.... The bagger. Especially with the modular setup of either a Street Glide, Road Glide FLRX or a Road King. The tour pack can be removed for short rides or after arriving at a hotel. Same goes for the Road King. Remove the windshield and or the tour pack and you have a stripped down bagger that lets a rider enjoy the wind without obstruction.
I don’t know what happened. But I don’t like it!
It's a segment of the industry I would really like to see come back.
I adored my Warrior, couldn't keep rear tires on it :)
The problem with "big performance cruisers" was by nature of their long & low geometry the bikes handled like poop. What good was all that power if the bikes couldn't turn or brake well..? In my experience, the big cruisers were a bear to keep on line in a corner, touched down ridiculously early and had short-sloppy suspension and brakes making "performance riding" iffy at best. Without storage, wind mitigation or comfort in design & features there was a serious lack practicality also. So outside of running around town trying to look cool and making a lot of noise stoplight to stoplight the big performance cruisers had little else to offer...
My warrior begs to differ
@@konrad1101 I'm sure it does, I have buds riding Raiders and 1900 Stratiliners. and these can get along for sure. But generally holds true for big cruisers and is still my opinion on the topic of this video.

Again
I would kill to have a Yamaha Raider, just couldn't pull the trigger on a discontinued bike
I am very hard pressed to buy a metric which is out of production just due to parts availability.
It's all about dressers, I mean baggers...and what is the difference between those two?
I've always referred to them as dressers, then the trend went to losing the tour pack and keeping the hard bags. I would call the bagger a dresser minus the tour pack and if you have a tour pack and bags it's a dresser.

I have worked in all kinds of bike shops since 1964! I still ride ride a fjr ,a v-max, and a zx14r! For those 57 years i have worked on Harleys and many other brands, and for those 57 years i have been pointing out how superior other brands are over a Harley -Davidson! However, it's been pointed out to me, thanks to movies and illusions, that i am in a war , that i can not win! For one reason and one only! That is because there is one thing, men want over anything else, and it's between a women's legs!
Eehhh. I rather have my xl1200c. This bike will be running long after these metrics fall apart.
I am huge Sportster fan myself, the possibilities are endless with those!
i think most people now days want bags or some type of that . their just handy to have. just a guess
They are very handy but they sure add a lot to the price, enough that makes me want a cruiser and I can source my own bags for way less.
What about triumph rocket, or thunderbird
We’re losing everything we’re losing dealerships Harley Davidson. We’re losing industry or losing everything in this Country and many other countries. It’s the mega rich and the other people. And technology is taking over taking over jobs and our our brains are mines.
It's very true and lot of people don't want to admit to what were seeing happen. Every year it seems like the motorcycle industry gets scaled back even more.
I can't really say much about the cruiser market going bye bye! Manufacturers do research and act accordingly weather right or wrong. Maybe they saw a shift towards baggers and that's the way they went. For my money I'd rather take say my 2016 Heritage which has a103 cu. in. H.O. motor put a stage 1 kit, tune it and run with that. Question for you. Is the Milwaukee 8 in the softails counter balanced like the twin cams?
All the M8's are actually rigid mounted and counter balanced now, it's a much simpler balance system than what the Twin Cam B motor had.
I had a Vulcan 2000 classic the reason I got rid of it was because it was only basically good for highway parking lot is were scared me to death of because it weighed more than a full dress Harley and if it went over at slow speed even getting it up would be a pain loved it on the highway day-to-day driving not so much
That Vulcan 2000 is a tank, parking lot maneuvers were for interesting!
It's like the VHS vs Betamax situation. Sometimes, the better product doesn't win the aftermarket.
Sadly that's the real truth, you just don't see the muscle bikes out there anymore. Even the sport bike market has really kinda fizzled these days.
FYI red text can be very difficult to read !
I think the Scout and Sportster S look great. I know the Sportster performs as well as my V Rods. But both are so small, I’m 6’ ,235lbs, I could just never buy one. They need to make an XL-S model. About a foot longer .
That's the issue with the new performance bikes is they are just so small, you can't stretch out on those like the Vrod.
@@GixxerFoo I’ve said it before, I like the liquid cooled evo engine on the new sportster. I absolutely think they will be stuffing that into their bigger bikes sooner than later.
@@gpcbr1000 yep I hope they can figure out a smaller radiator like Triumph uses. You barely notice it
@@TheDeplorableOne they will, It’s been on their mind since the V Rod, and it just looks like they’re going to get forced in that direction due to the bullshit environmental regulations.
@@gpcbr1000 I saw something a few days ago that hinted at the "classic" Sportsters getting the Revo engine later this year (Mid-summer release) or as a 2023 new model. Touring bikes are about a year behind that. Softails are being held off on as long as possible, as those are the definite "Classics" in the lineup. I think it may also have to do with trying to get a radiator design that's as discreet as possible.
Also I'd think shaft drive losses are less parasitic than belt drive? Basically weighing shaft's friction loses against the belt's rubbery give.
The shaft drive causes a lot of power loss, the belts really don't give as much as you might think with the kevlar reinforcement.
VTX1800 was a bad bitch. My buddy has one and he still pulls on my tuned stage 1 dyna. 😭
That 1800 lays some power down, that was Honda making up for lack luster cruiser performance over the years.
I own vtx1800f which was the sportiest version of the line. It is 17 years old but it runs and looks like new. The only thing it lacks - the 6th gear. No intensions of selling this bike whatsoever.
I know a lot of guys who love the V Rod, the problem was the asking price, if they could bring it back for around or under 15k I think it would do well
It got up to around 18K there, 15K would be a great place to start to move those bikes!
that wasnt the problem with Vrod the problem was it didnt sound like HD so HD backers didnt like it so it didnt sell well I ran in club life for ten years and they actually looked at a Vrod like HD sold out to the masses
@@russelbrown7303 see for your generation that was the issue, something tells me I'm probably 20ish years younger then you.
So trust me when I tell you the big problems were both image and price. Hell the fact that your generation hates it so much only helps us like it more
@@jerlaine1638 By the why I ride a Triumph Rocket 3 the new single arm and yes I just turned 50 Im just talking most HD guys will tell you this and I would tell them the Vrod would be the only HD Id buy
I’d still trade my Milwaukee 8 for a V-Rod Street Rod. That’s the only true Performance Cruiser they’ve ever built.
Too soon for this video. Wait until late January when Harley-Davidson drops a bomb on us and make this video irrelevant.
I sincerely hope Harley-Davidson makes this video completely irrelevant, I'd like to see a monster version of the Revolution Maxx that makes some big torque.
im a subscriber and enjoyed the video- but this is the first time I noticed a large farting sound in your outro @10:09 ten minutes ten seconds. Has it always been there? I had to play it twice because I couldn't believe it
Lol it's always been there, I left it out one time and heard all about it asking where it went 😄
What difference does it make? None of them could beat a 1969 Honda 750cc in the quarter!
People don't give the vintage bikes as much credit as they deserve, they were faster than you might think. The engine power output was way ahead of chassis and brake technology though lol.
Crash of 08 happened. Performance cruisers became a luxury that went away. Baggers are at least functional. Lightweight more economical muscle bikes to go over a younger segment of the market.
Sales have been in the tank since 2008 for sure, it doesn't seem like it's really ever recovered.
@@GixxerFoo Sales prior to 08 could be argued to be inflated by the wave of boomers retiring and purchasing toys to enjoy, and people taking out home equity loans to by bikes.
Ducati and Triumph still has you performance cruisers, though not V twins
Yeah the Diavel and that Rocket 3 are some serious hardware, they run damn good!
I think that many riders were shifting over to Victory and that left the metrics to fight for an even smaller segment. Then Star stopped, and without proper management the other metrics followed Star believing that they were preventing a decrease in future sales by shutting down now - not later. This left Honda and Suzuki then only ones making cruisers and when Honda dropped the VTX you knew it was over. Which is really dumb on all of their parts because I remember the Madura 1200, and the V65 Magna, and the Stratoliner. And the metrics think that slumping sales figures are because of COVID and a slow recovery, and yet I see people buying Harleys and Indians every day and watch as they pass on a M109R BOSS because they can get into an "American" brand for less money and start customizing it out. If the metrics don't wake up, they'll dwindle their buyers to a niche of teenagers with no capital because of meager offerings and lack of selection.
It was at the time of O Bummer in the Whitehouse and fuel prices were going up up up more help from the Dems!
Motorcycle market really has cratered since 2008, it's come back but not like it was before the recession.
Since I love your videos are cruiser related. How did you get the name gixxerfoo ?
I used to ride a GSXR-1000 years ago, joined a sport bike club and got that name. It just kinda stuck over the years.
yeah every body wants a bagger with a pizza box so they can pull over and eat lunch ..
Lol not gonna like, that tour pack is kinda handy.
Everyone wants a Harley, i don't know anyone that rides a metric cruiser.
Price really pushes the metrics, it's less up front but in long term they are hard to keep with parts availability in the event of a major failure. They sold strong years ago when Harley's just flat weren't available due to demand.
Going out for a ride today to the ranch Foo. Beautiful weather today here in south Texas.
That's awesome! It's supposed to get crappy here tonight, be safe out there!
@@GixxerFoo thank you brother !
Makes me appreciate my Slim S a little more. Lol. 😎👍
