  • My Fusion Ficus benjamina is getting a bonsai pot after growing for 7 years in a seed tray! The tree is a medium leaf size, Ficus benjamina.
    I'm root pruning and re potting to improve the root base and I also get a birthday surprise in the mail!
    Check out the UA-cam channel "Bonsai Science" to see where my birthday wishes came from!!

    I know I’m late to comment here. I did not want to rush watching this root work though. Daggum, was that fascinating! Your consistency is on point, and your knowledge is through the roof. I was not aware those tater-roots were for hurricane anchors, just figured that’s what tropicals do to store extra starches/sugars.

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, it gives you a really good look at the roots so you can make good decisions on your root pruning! I have found no drawbacks to bare rooting, as long as your aftercare is good!

  • @Bearbok
    @Bearbok 2 роки тому

    For roots that will always be buried and under the ground why is looks/flow the major concern? Not talking about surface roots. Should those roots be looked at for the health of the tree first and fitting in the pot? Nobody will ever see those roots unless repotting so to me looks could be a concern but low priority. Am I missing something? Forgive the question from a bonsai newbie

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  2 роки тому +1

      The flare at the base of the tree increases with all the radial surface roots feeding the tree. It's this flare at the root base that makes helps make a tree look old and mature. Each of the radial surface roots feed a branch above. Also as the tree grows larger you can proportionally lift the tree out of the pot, this exposes more of the hidden radial roots! Here is a video about this topic...
