  • In this video, I went to Walgreens-Mart and bought all the different brands of bacon they had. I them took them back home and cooked them up. After that, I tasted each one and ranked my favorite. Along the way we will settle some age old debates about bacon. How do you cook your bacon? How done do you like your bacon? We will get to the bottom of it all.

Wright's Thick Cut applewood smoked bacon in the oven. All my family loves it as well, grandma's bacon is the best. And I agree the smithfield "thick cut" is not great, but was bogo at publix, so it's what we are eating right now.

Oscar Meyer Maple bacon is pretty darn good, too. I eat 1/2 to 3/4 pound of bacon/day, so I've experimented with cooking technique quite a bit. My favorite method is definitely the oven. It allows for a high degree of consistency and I don't have to hover impatiently over it while waiting for it to cook.
I put the bacon on a piece of parchment paper then into a large sheet pan, 20 .75 x 14 .75 x 1 inches, so I can get maximum bacon cooked at once. Thick-cut bacon goes about 28-30 minutes, into a preheated 350° oven (regular cut, a bit less time). I pile it onto a doubled paper towel for a minute or two to get rid of the excess grease, then serve. I save the bacon grease for frying eggs, hamburgers and anything else that deserves it!

I make mine in a toaster oven, although that is more bacon than I care to eat. Eggs are a must though, three jumbos at least. And yes, bacon fat for much of my frying unless olive oil is called for. Rarely, but importantly, I have grape seed oil around for high temperature cooking where I don't want any added flavors from the oil.

@@commentatron Thank you for the reply. I noticed that Aldi in my city carries avocado oil as well. I will give it a try soon. Hey, I just found your channel. It's a good channel with good content. I have some suggestions that may help you get a few more viewers by upping the production value a bunch with very little work on your end.
I would be to use a different microphone and get some lighting. That light in the background is causing your exposure to struggle a lot. There's also a lot of echo. If you get a lapel mic it should help a lot by being less sensitive and picking up less reverb of the kitchen. You could also put some blankets up off camera to dampen the sound.

Important note - "nitrate-free" bacon and a lot of other products labelled as "uncured" actually contains nitrates, and could even contain more than regular cured bacon.
They add celery juice/powder which causes nitrates to form during the curing process. It's less regulated and so can result in more nitrates than regular bacon.

I like mine well done. I have a Breville grill which is like a HUGE George Foreman grill. I put about 6 - 7 pieces on the preheated electric Breville grill and put the top down which is also heated. Depending on the thickness, I cook it for 2 -3 minutes and then I flip it over and cook another 2 minutes. PERFECT every time. I got the Breville 10 years ago or so and that is how I’ve cooked my bacon ever since. No pink anywhere !

I like the casual review, x/10 score ratings, without any snobbery... one suggestion: It was kinda distracting to bounce back and forth between rating a few bacons and then talking about another subject... and then back to rating more bacons.
Honestly, I don't even know which one you like best. These kind of rating videos work _really_ well in short clips (Portnoy style). I hope you'll do more of them, and keep it casual. Whatever things you want to rate.
Maybe do hot dogs next? There's nothing worse than buying a #$&* brand of hotdog and then forcing yourself to eat them all, even though they're disgusting (or throw them away, which is like burning money).

I put non-stick foil on a sheet pan, add the bacon, then cover with parchment paper. Into a cold oven set to 400 for about 25 minutes for thick cut bacon. Time will vary based on the oven and the brand of bacon.

I typically cook mine on a gas griddle outside as that's the easiest way I know to cook about 16 pieces of bacon at once. I like to cook until there's some crispness but I don't mind if it's floppy either. Fuck that fall apart bacon dust shit.

For wrapping things like jalapeño poppers or hot dogs I use plain old Oscar Meyer or Bar-S. They're not pricey, they get the job done & they've got good flavor.
For just plain bacon to go with breakfast (or in a Bloody Mary or Caesar) it's Hempler's thick cut.
I generally cook bacon in my pellet smoker which is right outside my kitchen. Sometimes I'll use the oven or cast iron on the stovetop, but 90% of the time bacon is done in the smoker.
Bacon doneness? If it's floppy you're doing it wrong.

I like to cook mine in the oven on a sheet pan just because I can cook more and it’s easy clean up …

I don’t buy any bacon with sodium phosphate or anything phosphate within it. It’s hard to find cus they’ll only be a couple without it at grocery stores but healthier no doubt

Bake in oven, roughly 20 minutes to get it crispy but not burnt.

I like GFS thick cut bacon because it is not as salty as most other bacons. When all i can taste is salt it's nasty. I cook mine i. Either a pot on the stove or in the oven because i can cook it all at once rather than in batches

My favorite is Neuske's Applewood smoked bacon. In the oven. OK, I admit it's easy and my cook top is hard to clean. And crispy, but not crumbly. Wright's bacon is great too and The Fresh Market's deli bacon. Like thick sliced. Turkey bacon is vile
