Suffer little children is about the Moor’s murders that occurred at the Saddleworth moors. It happened about a 15 minute drive from my house so hearing the song always makes me feel a weird connection. Morrissey mentions “Hindley” in the song, talking about Myra Hindley who helped kill the children involved. It’s truly a saddening and disgusting story.
I love The Smiths, and Morrissey. A good friend of mine once said that his favorite thing about Morrissey is that he never stops singing. He uses his voice as an instrument. A lot of Morrissey's lyrics are inspired by classic books, films, and poetry. He rarely writes about personal things. I was lucky enough to see Morrissey in 2007. Craziest concert that I've ever been to. I was front row, and was nearly crushed by the people scrambling to get on stage to hug Morrissey. Morrissey grabbed my hand and held it while he was singing, so all of the bruises were worth it. I think "Still Ill" is my favorite from this album.
Hahaha had a similar experience in Melbourne Australia, someone very kindly lifted me over the barrier in the encore and one of his security guards caught me and held me like a baby in his arms while the person who went ahead of me had their turn then as Morrissey lent down to me the security guard lifted me up to him and you probably know well the affirming and kind nod he gives you! Worth battling it out in the front row, I had bruises on my hips and belly from straddling the barrier all night!
@@oscillatewildly6553 Yes! If you're lucky enough to get to hold Morrissey's hand, he doesn't just float by, he grips your hand and let you know he sees you. It's still blows my mind that he STILL allows people to get on stage, and he interacts with the crowd the way he always has. I wasn't brave enough to get on stage, but I was more than happy to help people along. 😂
The last songs is about Manchester Moors murders, and he's kind of taunting the killers with his lyrics and placing himself in the shoes of the victims
Dude. It's kids like you that give me hope for the future. Keep diving into music. There's a lot to learn......Your interpretation of Morrissey has been excellent so far!
If you enjoy the themes of choosing your own happiness over what society expects of you, then I would really recommend listening to Modest Mouse. Their early albums like "The Moon and Antarctica", "Building Nothing Out of Something", and "This is a Long Drive" are all amazing (and super underrated in my opinion). I love all of their albums up to "Good News", but after that, I couldn't get into their albums. I think you would really like their early stuff. And a fun fact about Modest Mouse: Johnny Marr (The guitarist for The Smiths) became a member of Modest Mouse, and started touring with them in 2007.
I know you're probably going to listen to The Queen is Dead first if you make another reaction video, but i highly suggest that you listen to Meat is Murder immediately after. I consider it to be the most underrated album of theirs even though it's so good, like Barbarism Begins at Home is genuinely one of their best songs. By the way keep the good work man!!!
Every time I shift my focus to Morrissey's lyrics (which is often), I always admire his ability to capture all sorts of relationships and feelings. It doesn't matter if he's had it happen before or not, he can articulate such an accurate and realistic story between two (or more) beings. For example, "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle" is a spin on a poem titled the same by William Ross Wallace. Instead of "the hand rocking the cradle" being the mother, in the song it's an unfamiliar (man?) person who's getting "saved" by this three-year-old boy. Personally, I believe the mother could either be dead or the man(?) kidnapped the boy. Seemingly, the man(?) wants to be a parental figure for this boy, or just simply be able to influence him to an extent. The song is so descriptive even though we can assume Morrissey hasn't experienced anything like it. Which is what I always so baffling; how can come up with these vast scenarios again and again? It's super impressive!!! (Excuse the rant..)
Mainly just rap and a bit of rnb. I would sometimes hear a indie rock/pop song and enjoy it here and there. I just never really felt comfortable with myself telling people I liked it and broadening my taste, until the start of this year which I’m very happy I did!
i think you would appreciate MGMT debut album. I think is an amazing band and is one of the best modern bands alongside with Radiohead and Arctic Monkeys imo also The Car album by Arctic Monkeys (the latest one) is a jewel, it feels like a james bond cinematic album, such a rich sound with a beautiful orchestra
Unpopular opinion in the hipster spaces on the Internet but morrisseys solo career has as much material as the smiths that is better than the smiths, it also has worse material but viva hate, your arsenal, vauxhall and I, and You are the quarry are superior to the smiths stuff in my opinion and deserving of far more credit. Great review too btw lol
Dude I watch this all the time now...I know you're sick of me oh oh oh oh oh. Specially when you said you couldn't even bust.. .ô oh ohhhhh 😮😮 when r you going to play "ñ9vember ßpawned a monster"…... you are my make believe boyfriend....❤❤❤❤❤❤
My bad I didn’t get back to you sooner. I listened to like 4 of their most popular songs and I really enjoyed ‘Parabola’ and ‘Forty Six & 2’. I’ve been thinking about maybe doing a reaction to Lateralus sometime

All 4 smiths albums are top tier music! And both complications Hatful of Hallow and Louder Than Bombs. Timeless music.
Hand in glove is probably my favourite on that album
this is my favourite album by them! and hoping you’ll do other Smiths reactions
Hoping to do “the queen is dead” next :)
Some people understand The Smiths, others are useless. You are a smart man.❤
The last songs is about Manchester Moors murders, and he's kind of taunting the killers with his lyrics and placing himself in the shoes of the victims
All of their albums are excellent, but the best is The Queen Is Dead. It's a 10/10 and one of the best album of the 80's. Keep up the great work man !

Great stuff Ricky.
I'm looking forward to seeing more
Johnny Marr the guitarist has done some brilliant solo albums as well, The Messenger being the highlight in a lot of peoples opinion.
And with other artists for 40 years!❤
Galore!

Can’t wait for you to listen to The Boy With The Thorn In His Side 🙏🏽
You might appreciate Beck’s ‘sea change’. Beautiful, melancholic and quite the departure for Beck at the time. Also, the Cure might interest you.
Love your videos bro❤
Thanks bro, that means a lot
You have to hear the Queen Is Dead.
I love you loving you've got everything now lol, such an underrated track
You need to listen too the queen is dead. Its incredible. Also listen to the song how soon is now, its my all time favourite song by them.
I'd recommend other bands like joy division and the stone roses if you're liking the smiths.
Why do these suggestions always arrive at 4.23am when you’re 50 years old and from the north of the UK.. 🤔
You're a brilliant reactor, Sir - kudos to you.
Glad you dig this man, what sort of stuff did you like before the channel?
