We have the same reasons for our bunkhouse model. I’ve looked a lot at different models and most have 2 bunks, we need 3, unless you want to use the dinette. But then 1 kid has no privacy as their bed is in the middle of the way. And you have to break it down every morning and evening. Our trailer gives everyone their own space, albeit small, and at least some privacy. But my son shot up in height and his 74” bunk is getting pretty cramped. This is a standard size for bunks. So I’m now looking at toy haulers that have 2 queens for the kids just to fit growing children. But I’m not sure how much we’ll be able to get away once they get to working age so I’m not sure it’s worth the cost of upsizing. For now, we’re holding on til we see what this new season of adult children will look like. They grow up so fast!!

When our kids were young and camping with us, we had a tent and then a pop-up. Now we have a Transcend Xplor 245RL and the boys are all in their mid to late twenties and no longer camping with us. That was something we had to realize when getting our current camper. A bunkhouse would have been a much longer camper just to have a feature that never would get used.

With 3 kids (ages 5 to 11), we absolutely have to have not only a bunk setup, but a bunk room. We like our kids to have their own space and have a door that closes things off. Right now, we're in a Kodiak 283BHSL but thinking about making the leap to a 5th wheel now that the kids are growing and getting older. Finding one with 3+ residential size bunks is difficult though.

We love our GD 2800bh! It’s perfect for our two small kids.

I really wish grand design would offer the 3210 style as a fifth wheel. We currently have a 2910 and we’ve found that’s the max towing length for us. Having the fifth wheel really makes getting into tighter spaces so much easier. Our friends have the 278bh which is similar but we’ve found as our oldest is becoming a teen having the crawl in style isn’t going to last forever. Alas we wait and see…

This is why we got the 2910bh for big bunks for our kids.

For us, we have three growing boys so when we decided to upgrade our RV we ended up going with a Non-bunkhouse model. We originally had a Springdale bunkhouse model that worked for when the boys were younger (and smaller) having the oldest use the top bunk while the two younger ones shared the bottom bunk. Now that they are older and practically needing their own full size bed (oldest at 15yr old and 5’11”). We decided to go with a rear living room model that has two opposing fold out couches (and two recliners) instead of going with a bunkhouse model. We didn’t just need bunk beds, but we needed three which in most cases meant a dedicated bunk room, longer trailer, and less seating in common areas. So far the boys have been completely satisfied and enjoy the new trailer even more. I understand it isn’t for everyone but it works for us.

We got a bunkhouse model cause we have a 3 grandkids and don't like folding the couch and dinette out every day and putting it up.we got the full size bunks cause our grandkids range in age from 16,12&10

We have a seperate bunkhouse where you can close the door. Gives us space from the kids, and an adult only zone to retreat to. If they were on the couch or dinette it wouldn't feel like everyone had their space

I have 4 beds in my back room. one of which hovers above this fold out mini sofa type thing. My 3 kids have only ever slept on the floor or the dinette the past 5 years and my oldest is 15. They’re not for everyone and WW is right, they grow quick and those beds are small

Nice. Yes, when my kids were smaller, we did have a bunkhouse makes things a lot easier, but me and the wife slept on the dinette table that sucked. Don’t happen no more.

We have a Transcend Xplor 251BH which has the front bunks with the bottom bunk being a fold down couch. Most of the time it is just my wife and I so the top bunk gets lifted up and we use the couch. But we wanted to have room for our kids and grandkids to have room to camp with us. We have had both bunks and the dinette plus a tent camping and during the day have plenty of room in the camper.

Sir I’ve been following your advice for a lot of years and I trust your be cause your like me. For one thing you are a southern guy and I believe you put out real honest non-biased products that you believe in you bought a grand designed product and I did a little research like you part of that research was you and now I’m having frame issues with my 30 foot reflection 150 series and I noticed you haven’t said anything about this and a little disappointed tell me what you think I should do. Would you buy one again? I’ve tried to trade my grand design in. Nobody wants it. They don’t want it for no amount of money.
    Thank You Sir

Dennis I appreciate the support. I hate to hear this has happened to you. I haven’t brought up Lipperts frame issues for a variety of reasons. Mainly because I have a travel trailer and I haven’t experienced the issue. Here is what I do know. Grand Design has extended their frame warranty to 5 years and this warranty is transferable to subsequent owners. You should be taken care of under warranty. Please let us know how it goes.

    Hey Brooke!
I’m surprised y’all camp that often. Do you typically just go Friday-Sunday? Like 2 nights? Mostly close to home?
I find those short trips exhausting…
We normally do Thursdays to Sundays which requires taking the kids out of school some Fridays or we go over holiday weekends. We do camp a lot though, 40 some nights a year. Thus the bunkhouse. I couldn’t see making beds every day, that would get old quick…

      Hey!!
Yes we camp Fri-Sun most of the time. Also keep in mind we have a permanent site we use quite often so that helps not having to set up every trip.

Kids need a place for themselves as well. A little bit of privacy for them especially when there’s more than 1 child, and as they get older goes a long way for their comfort during a trip.

Good afternoon guys, been watching for a while but first time reaching out and reaching out from Middle East as I am deployed but your thoughts on bunkhouse for pets? Me and wife do take our camper out a few times a year with our 3 dogs but when I get back and retire we plan on doing a lot more. Since we have never had a bunkhouse could anyone provide any pros and cons on that subject? It would be appreciated.
