My boyfriend used to be homeless. Heard so many stories of how hard he suffered. This is ridiculous. I wish I could have offered him a cupcake in those years. A little gesture means so much when you're suffering.
So sorry to read that but I had a bad experience. Gave a burger to brighten their day. Course they kept asking for free food and they never improved. Sorry but some do want help, others are a leech.
A lot of businesses donate food. At least where I live. My brother was in different shelters (by choice). He always had a duffle full of snacks, at or just past the best by date. PB crackers, nuts, chips, jerky, fruit cups, pudding-all kinds of stuff. He said they also got lots of canned stuff for lunch/dinner and cereal and pastries for breakfast.

I'm an old guy now. Decades ago I often waited on tables to make ends meet while I educated myself.
One boss - when presented with the "I'll take my business elsewhere" type of customer - would ask them to wait while he printed out their promise - so they could sign it!
He valued good customers enough to stand no nonsense from bad ones.
I work at a movie theater and one of my favorites is when someone mad at us says they'll go to the downtown location. I transferred from that location because it closed down years ago and is now a youth center. I wish I could see their faces when they drive all that way there and nope, not there.

I love how THOSE PEOPLE say they'll take their business somewhere else when they haven't bought anything or the typical I'm not shopping here ever again and then they're there next week
If I’m never patronizing a particular business again, I’m not announcing it. I’ll just do it. I’ll move on and the business will move on. In terms of profitability, I was just a blip on their radar anyways

Probably from Karen’s Facebook review in which other customers rake her over the coals. Then they flood the business out of spite for Karen. Those are the best non paying “customers”

It's people like entitled that ruin donations for those who truly are in need.
Well, its actually people pretending to get sick from donated food to sue for large sums that ruin donations. Classic tragedy of the commons.

Kindness is well received when it happens but not seeking it out, like for my birthday which we were spending in the US a relative gave me a gift card for dunkin donuts, we used most of it on breakfast, but had like 1 dollar left, so I went at like 11 pm to a store to buy one donut after a long day of walking around, and because they were closing they gave me 5 donuts.
I love the “Fine, I’ll take my business somewhere else.”
When I see people who act like that in real life, all I can think is “So, you’re going to go to a different business and harass them for free things? Yeah, I don’t think any business will be sadden by you taking your harassment elsewhere. After all, you weren’t going to be giving them money anyway.”

I bought a pack of 4 fresh sausage rolls, a pack of digestives and a drink from morrisons for the homeless guy outside just today... so kindness can cost money, but it's money well spent.
Imagine being the person to hear that food is being donated to a homeless shelter to feed those who are _homeless_ and then saying "yea but who cares about them, gimme my free food". Shameful

My favorite cupcake store has a Happy Hour for the last hour of the day. If they have any left, they’ll sell them at a discounted price for those who are willing to come in and take pot luck, usually strawberry and snickerdoodles. If you want the special ones or your favorites, you can come in earlier and pay full price like anyone else, or do what I do: prepay for them online, in full, so that I can get the ones I want.
