It’s amazing how reliable things built over 100 years ago are compared with what we have now.

Watching the guy join the took me back to my apprenticeship days, at least you didn't have to replace the whole belt like you do today. Was just a case of cutting out the damaged piece then adding in a new length, did many of repairs Thanks Charlie.

I need a 5 inch thickness quarter sawn 40 inches wide 8 feet in length for a new work bench . Could you deliver it by tomorrow. Watching this video is fun for me. I remember sitting with the sawyer of a much more modern mill when i was a very young. Watching the boards coming off the mill was exciting and mesmerizing and several of those boards were used in building corrals and barn. When my dad died all of the corrals went away and now I have a beautiful treasure of resourse material in many of those boards wonderfully weathered. I have made several peices of furniture for mom and found pleasure in those old boards. Thanks for the re-kindling of a great memory. Patrick from Idaho.

G'day. Have great memories of working in sawmills here in Australia, cutting good old Aussie hardwood, would have liked to work in a steam powered mill. Great to see this mill in full operation, and not just a historical exhibit. Not 100% sure, but I don't think we have any fully operational, commercial steam sawmills left in Australia anymore.
    Great video, keep coming mate.
    Cheers.

Love your videos brings back some great old memories, did not have steam power but love the top saws. Was wondering what size saws you run, my dad and his brother built a top saw so they could saw 72” wide boards they logged off a cottonwood river bottoms I can hardly remember. Do remember the mill had a monster Buda Diesel engine that he put a turbo on when the top saw went on, took many a nap listening to that thing bellering away in dads car next to the mill. Also love those great logs they get to cut a few each year out of state or national forest otherwise the big ones are gone up in the Midwest here, Thanks Again.

Adjusting pulleys is critical for operating modern belt systems so they do not fall off under load.
