Great video as usual... Tip / trick... If for what ever reason you do opposite his suggestion of removing the drain before the fill and end up having a messed up fill plug, in emergency, you can removed the shifter boot and the shifter cover and fill it that way...again... in emergency cuz it is kind of a PITA...but doable...
Which reminds me... I do need to change out the tranny fluid... Not spending $20 a bottle though... I used Pennzoil Syncromesh after I had my AX15 rebuilt and haven't had any issues at all... I'll used it again too... $8-9 a pop...
Thanks for your awesome videos, you’ve helped me alot! Whenever a sudden repair is needed with the ol YJ, there’s a good chance you’ve already got me covered with one of your many helpful videos! 👍🏻👍🏻
8:50 NEVER overfill a gear box or diff. let it drain down to the level and drip out until it stops. it was designed to be at a specific level per manifacture levels. if you don't, the oil level will be too high and you will have problems like axle seals leaking and input shaft seals leaking etc. let it drain down and THEN screw in the drain plug.
New subscriber here I love Jeeps. Great video! I have recently replaced all these fluids in our 2019 Ram 1500 truck and I used Red Line MT-LV in the Transfer Case. I've heard great things about Redline in the Jeep community (my '24 JLUR is too new to need fluid changes yet) so I wanted to give it a shot. Mopar OEM fluids for the TC in our Ram are very expensive and I had a hard time finding an aftermarket version that would be compatible. But, Redline pulled through. So far we've been running it for the past few weeks and everything is great!
Awesome video! I was planning to change my 95’ wrangler (2.5L) transmission fluid soon and I read in the owners manual that GL-5 lubricant is the recommended one for the AX-4/5 transmissions. Should I ignore that and pick up a GL-4 lubricant or is the manual correct? Thanks so much!
Hey man love all your video's, I'm always watching them when I need to work on my YJ!! So I want to change the fluid in my transmission, can I use the Red Line MT-90 in my Ax5 transmission?
Hey, I have been doing my homework..and I have finally bit the bullet on my 94 jeep Wrangler YJ 2.5l with an ax5 transmission with a 2001 jeep TJ 4.0l with a automatic transmission..(before you think WTF..just keep the 2001 TJ.. can't do...it was a part out and another dilemma, I don't know if I have the info needed to change the PCM from an automatic that it is into the manual transmission that I bought for it) the dilemma, I bought the bell housing for the ax-15 to swap out the automatic for and the AX-15 (just received all of it) from advance adapters.. First question ❓ What starter do I need..does it change rotation because of the automatic to manual swap (location of the starter between the auto and manual transmission?) 2) CAN You/I bypass the damn PCM and make the wiring harness more simple..or do I have to remove the wiring harness from the 2001 TJ and use it and throw away the YJ wiring harness and PCM and get a new plug and PCM for the TJ wiring harness and go through hell rewiring my YJ? I saw your video of the 4.9 engine swap you did..can you lead me to the video you made to mount the new frame brackets for the 4.0 once I get the 2.5 brackets off the frame.. And did you fabricate the frame brackets or did you purchase them and from who.. Please 🙏🙏🙏 and Thank YOU 🤗
Hi @jeepsolid redline on the website and calling them say 75w90NS vs mt90.... what's the right answer? I already put in 75w90ns and then found your video
WOW! What a nice gift! I know you sent them a proper Thank You letter. Very nice. Anyhow, Can I use MT90 on my 2004 Wrangler TJ (6CYL 4.0 L)? I'm doing my transmission flush and filter change right now. Also, for my other fluids, what Redline would suit my TJ? Thank You!! Larr❣️
Good vid, thanks, its the tranny fluid I needed help with. BTW, what is the front light bracket on your one Jeep that raises the light bar above the winch, its cool.
I have a very old transfer case fluid change video where I think I mention the socket size. Very old video. Haha. Here ya go ua-cam.com/video/7K9wES5JGtg/v-deo.html
Got a question i have a knocking noises in my 87 jeep i cant find where it coming from i can only hear it when im driving up on to higher rpms it the 4 cylinder??
Hey! Let me know how this stuff does! I bought it and drained it thinking it would fix an issue of mine that it didn't, so I tried another- well the issue turned out to be a yoke seal and I never got to try it with this stuff post-fixed- so now at 100k Miles after running 90w I finally decided to give 120w a shot and it was WORLDS better and quieter (I went with Royal purple since I didn't wanna spend another 80$ for mtx lol
I have an NSG 370 six speed in my 05 TJ. I'm really worried about what fluid to replace it with due to the super fragile synchro rings and unfortunately all the service manuals I ever came across or bought have the recommendations for the NV3550 5 speed. Would you recommend the same MT-90 fluid with GL4 or is there something else I should look at?
I've looked into different posts made throughout the years. There's no real consensus on the issue other than what I already know that it has to meet MS9224 standards. May just end up going with amsoil as that's what a lot of posts say they used. At this point I've kept my jeep running strong for 12 years and 160k miles I just want to make sure it stays reliable for a few more years without any major issues. I would like to eventually swap out the NSG for a AX15 but I'm currently limited on time, funds and space to do that kind of work.
Update: Redline DOES make a transmission fluid that meets these standards, it's the MTL GL-4 gear oil. This one meets those MS9224 standards, I know this video is geared (pun intended) towards AX15 but I figure I'd mention it here just in case anyone goes delving into the comments for more info.
Dude awesome video! Just went from motor oil (previous owner(Not a bad thing)) to MT-90 and it's awesome. Reverse got a lot louder but it's straight cut. 🤷♂Shifts are a lot quicker and smoother. Would recommend if you got a little extra cash lol if not engine oil it is.
My 2 cents: I used Synchromesh (pennzoil) for the first fluid change on my new AX-15. Sponsorship or not, Redline has plenty of good reviews and comes highly recommended by Jeepers who’s experience I trust. Anyways, cheers to you. Really dig the videos and the YJ’s!

Good tip! That's one way to get around the problem.
I realize I'm quite randomly asking but does anybody know of a good website to watch newly released series online ?
Thanks for another good video!
I use a flexible kitchen cutting board and wedge that in place to guide the fluid down.
Good idea. Probably a lot cleaner than my way.
Thanks for this video! Easy to follow and made it go smoothly for me. I am a proud subscriber!

What year is your YJ?

That’s awesome. Glad it’s working for you. And thanks for the sub!
Great video man! Will be doing an oil change on mine this weekend
Cool. Thanks!
2024 still here
Thank you so much for making great videos Very helpful. 🤙
Thanks for showing I’ll do to my yj in a couple days💪💪💪👍🏼
Next 4 weeks, I'll be looking for the next ones
Cool! Thanks for following along.

Hey, thanks! Yep. Many jeep owners do and have great shifting with it.
@@JeepSolid Thanks man!! :)
I got a 98 dodge Dakota 2.5 4 cylinder jeep motor got the trans out now doing a clutch change
Great video! Is it necessary to do a flush before adding MT 90 or is a fluid change ok?
Great Video!!! thank you
Fill plug first ... great idea !
Thanks. I've just made it a habit. Simple yet can help prevent a big mess if there's a problem.
I think it helps drain better to with the air flow entering the fill hole?

What if I don't know the fluid type that is currently in there? (I know this is an older video, but relevant to me today.)
Hi @jeepsolid redline on the website and calling them say 75w90NS vs mt90.... what's the right answer? I already put in 75w90ns and then found your video
Ill Pick some of that Redline Oil up....thanks..
Cool. It's great stuff!

If your TJ is a stick shift, it’s gonna have the same AX-15 five speed as the YJ
So MT90 would be perfectly fine to use
Good vid, thanks, its the tranny fluid I needed help with. BTW, what is the front light bracket on your one Jeep that raises the light bar above the winch, its cool.
Thanks! Glad it helped
Would you put synchromesh or max in the ax-15
What is your fluid change mileage interval?
What’s the worst thing that can happen if you remove the skid plate without any supports
Can I use the same oil type for the transfer ?
Redline recomends "75/90ns" (NS=No additives for Non-Slip Differentials) for the AX15 Transmission
would this apply to limited slip?? where did you read this? on there site maybe? thanks
What size are the sockets on the ax15 fill and drain plugs?
I have a very old transfer case fluid change video where I think I mention the socket size. Very old video. Haha. Here ya go ua-cam.com/video/7K9wES5JGtg/v-deo.html
JeepSolid okay cool thank you!
15/16’’ did it for me
Got a question i have a knocking noises in my 87 jeep i cant find where it coming from i can only hear it when im driving up on to higher rpms it the 4 cylinder??
One possibility is a lifter. But that is a pain to replace.
Will it also work in the ax-5 trans.
Good question, wondering the same thing.
Yes
Do you like metal detecting?

I've actually used MT-90 in my Tranny for years now. It works great for me. Shifts super smooth and offers great protection. I'm very happy with it.
Hey @jeepsolid amazon gives me the 75-90 gl5 oil for my 96 xj 2.5l
my drain plug and fill plug seem to be in different location i think and the drain plug looks like its a star bit
Oh OK I have an AX5 instead of your AX15. You should have clarified that
Is it on the driver side and says:
"Do not remove"?
Would be so much better if you just tell us at what time you start the change
GL-5 will not chew up anything. The actual "degradation" used to be "tarnishes the brass". That's right from the manufacturer.
gl-5 is a typo in the service manual. stop spreading this misinformation. this has been known for years that it should not be used.
Should i use gl4 or g5 🤷♂️
Where is the filter?

Yeah, that's gonna take some research. Have you asked on the Jeepforum?

Ok. If you feel you need to. But as I said, I was using their product long before. So obviously I believe in it.

Rey Yeah, I've used it for years and it's offered great protection and shifts super smooth.
