The realization that InfernoPlus accidentally recreated the idea of the beta AR when he ported the HL2 AR but was too lazy so he just gave it the default model but yellow.
After Microsoft bought Bungie they had them rebuild the engine from the ground up to be more like Quake with binary space partitioning and whatnot, which meant that there was no more real "outdoors" anymore, you were just confined to big rooms with a skybox texture instead of having proper rolling terrain like Bungie's Myth game engine that the original Halo builds were derived from. This looks like they ported a bunch of assets from the old build over to CE, rather than releasing the actual rolling-hill-terrain Myth based build. The terrain in the Myth based builds had LOD that popped, which you could see in some of the videos. I don't recall from the old pre-Microsoft videos from 1999-2001 if they ever did get some proper geomorphing into their terrain LOD renderer to eliminate the LOD pops in the terrain mesh. I was totally obsessed too though and programmed a little OpenGL tech demo called "Heylow" because I wanted to run around in something like those old Halo builds! You can find my IOTD submission of Heylow on flipcode archives.
Nah, GoldSrc didn't have displacement geometry and could only do brush levels, no sky either, every map was basically a room with a fake sky texture. Yeah I know I sound like a nerd. In any case, you can clearly see how the terrain evolved from Bungie's earlier Myth strategy games.
@@Duper_Trooper42069 Ooops that came out wrong. What I meant is that the levels in GoldSrc never were "open". They were all just contained rooms with a sky-texture used for the walls and ceiling. I don't think Halo's engine is built that way.

I hope you have seen the screenshots of this halo version. Gamestar, a German gaming magazine, still offers all releases as an online sub from 199x to 2024. So many screenshots which never have been shown on the web in English. I have some or all screenshot. I’m surprised you didn’t go into the single player map that was released at the same time, which used these assets to create a unique mission which took inspiration from old bungie scripts for missions.

6:57 That's because some of them actually ARE from that far back, like the Shadow a few seconds ago for example was supposed to be a transport in the game. Hell, the Seraph started life as a TANK in the RTS era of Pre-Halo.
I'm assuming the "delayed explosion" when shooting missiles into the water is the fact that they aren't detonating when they hit the surface, which actually makes sense. It displays the water geyser, then when it hits the actual floor it detonates
This channel is a good example of me watching a very entertaining video with great editing and expecting to see like 250k subscribers when I go to subscribe and I only see like 2k and it leaves me absolutely shocked. Great video, can't wait for more.

All sources point to 343's MCC team, including the dig site peeps, being moved to the new Halo project. The person who was really pushing for the Halo CE and 2 lost content revival was Frank O'Connor. He's Gone (the monsters are everywhere) So, unless dig site makes an update, everyone who was interested in bringing the rest of the content to MCC either left the studio or working with Saber on the new game. There is a piece, not a while level, a piece of a cut Halo 2 level. Judging from playing it, it used assets from the demo, but the demo and this both existed from a version of Halo 2 that had 2-3 levels with a singular story point that had nothing to do with the others. IIRC in the BTS for H2: Jason, Joseph, Marty and a few others basically said the original game was just broken up between devs that had a completely different idea of what characters and places were doing in the story. The choice to start over and have a cohesive singular agreed story and characters gave us the version we see Vengeful Vadum released (Halo 2 Uncut) which before it's finalization, was cut down and rebuilt in 6 months and what launched. That first build though, we lost a bunch of characters that never saw the light if day, with the Arbiter, Lord Hood, and Miranda surviving the purge. Anyway, that's where the Halo 2 dig site level feels like it's from.
