My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We see over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

But a lot better than motor companies that figured out fixing a known fault was not worth doing a recall, and instead doing payola to settle the lawsuits, with a gag order thrown in.

The world is awash with ‘designers’ who haven’t got a clue regarding after sales maintenance or difficulties accessing components that should be easy to service, car manufacturers being one of the biggest culprits.

When a corporation steps up and accepts responsibility, that's a company I can trust. It's the ones that need to be pressured by gov. agencies to recall that I don't trust.

I always used to laugh to myself when owners manuals advised to remove the spark plug cap before working on a machine. Most of my equipment took a few hard pulls of the cord to get them to fire up, some fire up just before your arm is about to drop off. How could they be dangerous to work on? That was until I got a Shindaiwa combo powerhead, it fires up just tugging the cord a few inches.

As a Husky client, I'm choked that they don't feel the responsibility to offer parts for a device sold just a few years ago. Husky is in the process of abandoning the internal combustion engine line entirely, so I can see they are investing all they can in a completely different series. Even so, for a top line competitor, I expect better....

Great video Bre!! I agree with you about not liking change. NOT all change is good. I find that the older machinery tends to last much longer l I have three old Sears garden tractors (1969. 1972 and a 1978) that are still running great. Do the maintenance and it will last. New stuff... yeah, not much maintenance you can do to a lot of it but you also find yourself going out to buy a new replacement a LOT more frequently!!

I just contacted Husqvarna about my 330LK Trimmer and they gave me the name and address of the nearest service center. I called the service center and explained what I had and they said "We have gotten no notice about that, YET?" But, the lady looked it up on line and then told me to bring it in tomorrow and they would see what they could do. The only problem is, if they never heard about the "Recall" then they might not have the parts in stock? and how long is it going to take to get the parts in stock if they don't have it to fix it? I have no "Faith" in Husqvarna and their availability of parts. So glad you gave us the heads up so I could try and be one of the first!
Thank you very much and keep up the great work!

I bought a 125L/LD in 1995. It was made for Husqvarna by Manuyama. It cost $ 342.00 back then. Still runs great and other than a tune up it's had no repairs other than a new string head. Quality construction. Too bad Husqvarna stopped using this manufacturer

  • @AggressivelySuccessful
    @AggressivelySuccessful Місяць тому

I have a 130L that's been recalled and will take it to a shop tomorrow to have them fix the recall issue. It lists for $269 at Lowe's, which is where I bought mine, but I got it on sale for a decent amount off. The thing is a PITA! Aside from the recall issue, the cutting string WILL NOT extend when I bounce it off a flat service. That means, every time I need to extend the line, I have to take the head, take the string out, and then rethread it...while cussing up a storm the whole time. Also, the shield is a JOKE...doesn't block a darn thing. I will say that it's easy to start up, which is a huge plus over the Craftsman trimmer I previously used. It's also much more powerful than the Craftsman trimmer I had. Maybe I'll clean it up after the recall is fixed and throw it on Facebook Marketplace and then go get something else. I rely on my trimmer quite a bit, and it bugs me to no end when I have issues with it, which is why I dumped the Craftsman trimmer.
I should mention I have a Husqvarna backpack blower that is great...very powerful. I also have a Husqvarna chainsaw that hasn't given me any issues. I like the brand, but they missed the mark on the 130L trimmer I've got.

I've been looking at the Husqvarna string trimmers but haven't decided yet. I was focused on the refill part for the trimmer head. I really like the ones that you just feed in half and then twist away to refill the trimmer head. Having to take it apart and then refill the head is a pain. Done it for years. I would like the option of being able to use different attachments. So, with that said, what would you suggest? My budget is under 300 if possible. So, easy refill of the trimmer head and split boom. Easy starting is always good too. Love your videos and hope you keep making them!

Try looking for those parts at another parts retailer. Those parts are available. I'd leave a link to a website to get them, but UA-cam tagged me with a spam violation the last time I did it. I'm surprised that Stihl never had a recall on those crappy flip caps that they were putting on fuel tanks of various machines. Stihl claimed that users were not installing the flip caps the right way. It's a freaking gas cap, it shouldn't take a special procedure to install a gas cap. Stihl has since discontinued the flip cap on gas tanks completely and now has a normal spin on gas cap.

I have a 128LD, and only paid $99.00 for it. Granted it was a refurbished sale, but you couldn't tell it was not a brand new unit when I bought it. Been a pretty good little unit. Haven't had the fuel line issue yet, but will take a look when I am getting it prepped for spring.

Not entirely true about Hondas. Home Depot has them in stock. In fact I bought one a couple of weeks ago. Granted it is remaining stock of the repaired recalled mowers. They’re not selling any new models but there is still some residual stock out in the wild.

Iv never used or worked on a Husqverna that I liked. Always weird hard to fix problems over engineered and poor quality parts. My favorite trimmer is actually a Hitachi. Funny enough I think they were all recalled for fires too. Perhaps not as robust as others but its a quality unit simple and easy to work on.

Love your videos they have help me a single homeowner alot of money and mayhem. I do have a question. I have an old poulon pro riding mower that no longer have a deck . It needs a starter but I want to use it without the deck just to ride around on maybe pulling a cart. Is this possible and do I need to do anything special??

Wonder how this will compare to all the battery fires from lithium batteries in the near future? That's what I thought this video was going to be about.

When those fires actually start happening, these small-engine companies aren't going to have the same money as Tesla to suppress the local news stories or even pay for the Hazmat deployments for the fire suppression and cleanup.
I drove past my first lithium battery fire (not related to an accident btw) on the state highway to work last year- there were 3 fire trucks with a hazmat, and about 20-30 first responders to deal with the fire. I kept checking the town's news and ragpaper sites, and the fire department's site - no reports at all on what happened. They had us all driving through the cloud of white smoke. No consequences at all I guess!

Yes, I love my 128LD. My neighbor asked me to sale it to him. Because I use to let him use it. This was my home use trimmer. I think it was a 2018 model

      Question
I see you used the word "sale" describing someone using money to trade for things.
I've seen this many times over the internet.
Where I'm from, we use the word "sell". Not bashing you. Just would like to know if this is a regional use of the words. 🤔
The more you know! LoL 😂😆🤔

I had a Husqvarna 125L trimmer for 12 years, it worked without a problem until the end, when the piston broke and damaged the cylinder. I mowed a large area with it, much larger than it was designed for... it was weak, but it worked. In 2016 I bought a 143R-2, which is a completely different story... a strong and heavy machine, but I get the job done much faster... an unbreakable machine, and of course it was discontinued in Europe 3 years ago... and as far as I can see , new similar models are not of such quality.

I'm not in the market to buy any more string trimmers, but I did notice a couple of old McCullough chainsaws in your pile of equipment. I'm definitely in the market to buy those as is.

I'm a small engine mechanic in Chicago and as of right now Oscar Wilson engines in O'Fallon Missouri, which is one of the larger Small engine parts (including Husqvarna) distributors around, has all of those parts in stock. You should check them out! We get lots of parts from them up here in Chicago and they are great people to deal with. Their dealer site including parts lookup is fantastic.

I have had my husqvarna trimmer for over 16 years and to this day have only changed out bump heads . I have 4 acres of yard with about 200 yards of creek line to trim and bunches of trees. I have never used ethanol fuel and it has never failed to start and still the original spark plug. I can't stand the new design of the engine covers because they hurt your arms and elbows when reaching into a steep creek bed with one arm. I want another trimmer but won't buy a new huqvarna because of the design. I bought a stihl but it's heavier and it's not as reliable as my old husqvarna. It has a nice smooth engine cover and that's why i bought it. My wife likes my old huqvarna better so I get stuck with the stihl.
