wanted to put something out there to remind you all that it's okay to be content with what you have! seriously, this year's holiday ads are really hitting me harder than before, so I wanted to share this. I hope you all enjoy- feel free to let me know something you feel like you don't need to own / buy!
I agree with all these and airpods always manage to control what u do like iphone , I have read so many articles and its scary tbh . But what about on a new phone since no to airpods and apple watch? Or you think you’re phone is perfectly fine? Because lots of girls have had great condition phones and see Instagramers have a new phone so they get one too. Thank you for sharing this video
I love this positive corner of UA-cam. You’re one of the few youtubers that leave me happier (rather than stressed/over stimulated/unsatisfied) after watching their videos
It’s a relief to know I’m not the only one who was really overwhelmed by all the Cyber Week content. Thanks for another great video. 😊 Hope you enjoyed being at home with your family!!
I definitely agree with you on the airpods! Most of the time I cant tell when people have them in & I'm trying to have a conversation with them but they just don't respond. And the fact that you're overstimulated.
There's a lot of stuff/services I feel like people don't NEED to do. For example, getting your nails done! It's SO expensive and if you want to maintain your nails you have to go in often. I do that only on special occasions. Eating out is another huge one! People go out to eat whether it be starbucks or a nice restaurant multiple times a week or everyday!
Also I live in Tx and I want to live in NY for at least some time in my life. I actually really considered going to Kings College but decided to go to A&M instead, then chase my dreams of NY once I have my degree lol BUT your life is so fun/real/relatable to me and I LOVE that so just thought I’d let you know. Another thing, keep being totally you because genuinely I feel like you’re one of the only UA-cam’s I watch that is aware of the culture and calls it out. YOURE AWESOME ⭐️⭐️💗
I totally agree with the airpod thing! Its so annoying seeing people constantly having them in. It makes people so disconnected which I think is sad and a real issue. I also feel similar about apple watches. People who wear them are constantly looking at them. There is no real way to disconnect from your phone and just enjoy the people you are with or the place you are in. I beleive detoxing from technology is super important!
Hi, Michelle! If you want, you can always borrow books from a local library to help with the costs of books! It lets you circulate books throughout the community, and if you really loved the book you read you could always go out and buy it!
I stopped buying excess produce too and it changed my grocery game!! This made me feel so good because I honestly do a lot of these, but I also caught myself on others that I was about to start doing...my sephora cart is filled with new skincare I think I "need" and I was about to buy an apple watch for fitness because I thought I needed it when I never actually wanted one
You made some really great points in this video, Michelle! It's still a waste of money to buy something on sale if you wouldn't have bought it at full price. Also, obsessively using AirPods and having that constant simulation is not healthy and gives you no room to listen to your own thoughts or the voice of the Lord. Great video!
I totally agree with the AirPods thing! People wear them all the time and sometimes I’ll be talking to someone with AirPods in and I’m not even sure if they’re even listening
Thank you for a fantastic video, Michelle! I have also been overwhelmed by the rampant consumerism this holiday season. I love the perspective of being content with what we have and your money saving message!
Oh my gosh, the AirPods thing, I TOTALLY agree. It is a status product, not a product that is popular for functionality. I am mind blown at the Fahrenheit 451 reference!
YES. I thought I was the only person who thought that they were like seashells from Fahrenheit and they freak me out!!!! SO glad I'm not the only one hahaha!
I definitely recommend buying frozen* vegetables when possible! Not a ton that is available frozen, but I always buy my broccoli and cauliflower from the frozen section & that way it doesn't go bad before i even get the chance to eat it! :)
Totally agree with your view on AirPods! It’s so nice to know there are other young people out there with a little bit of an old school perspective on that sort of thing.
I SO AGREE on the AirPods. My whole family has them and my mom always asks me if I want them, but I personally think they give off the certain look that you are tuned in and can’t handle being bothered
Totally agree with you in airpods! I only use headphones when running/watching videos in public. I don’t know how people can function constantly listening to stuff. My mind can’t handle all that stimulation.
One thing that I do that helps with my groceries, is I plan what I'm going to cook in the week and only buy stuff for that. It really frees up space in the fridge because I live with four other girls and it forces me to not buy an excess of things and helps with the cost.
I have to agree that there is something about holding a paper book rather than using a kindle or some other form of e-book. Rather than buying books I actually have a library card and I just rent the books from there! In my town the library is free so I prefer to do that rather than buy a new book every time I want to read something (its also way cheaper for a college student too) :)
I definitely see the Fahrenheit 451 analogy and can’t find anyone else that does, tbh it’s slightly jarring when you notice just how many people are entirely absent from daily life now that that’s the norm.
your content is always so refreshing! especially this time of year it is so easy to get caught up in spending! I am doing homemade cards as Christmas gifts this year! I am hoping that people will find them to be much more heartfelt and special than a random purchased gift. love your videos!
Loved this video! I've stopped buying excessive makeup because why buy more when I already have enough for my everyday makeup? I also have red hair, which is super hard to match up with lip colours, so I kept buying more to find the right shade, but they were always too bright and would clash with my hair, so I just stopped... 😂
Wow, $120 on transportation is a steal. Living in the midwest public transportation is horrible and cars are needed. I spend at least $600 on my car every month. Car payment, car insurance, gas etc and even more every few months with oil changes, car tags, tires and random other things 🙁😑
Mine is 100% AirPods. I just don’t like the culture where people constantly have them in. I feel like it cuts out so much communication that could be had with people around you. I am a hairstylist and I remember when I was in beauty school, I saw so many of my classmates cutting others hair with AirPods in. Being a stylist is such a great way to connect with people and sometimes AirPods can get in the way
For me I’m just trying to invest in good quality and maybe more expensive items so a bunch of cheap items For me i was buying 2 pairs of cheap earbuds a month sometimes so buying AirPods has saved me from buying a ton of cheap equivalents I totally get where you’re coming from though and think we all need to unplug more and not abuse technology
I only use my air pods when I am walking, I love listening to my music, and it has helped me keep up with my exercise and brisk walks, before I know it, I am home and I walked a few miles, everything else on your list I agree with. Great video

This was so refreshing!! I’m all for supporting an influencer to get their coin but it can be a lot when every influencer is showing off a lot of material items. Just feel like there’s so much more to life than clothes and things
you are literally my favorite youtuber! you are so humble and so beautiful and whenever you post a video i watch it right away! thank you for everything you do!
@@annanewton5762 I use Hoopla and Kanopy for the same purpose! They also have movies too, so it helps me avoid paying monthly fees for streaming services
plastic water bottles! having a reusable water bottle that keeps your water cold all day and is easy to refill is so much better! and its better for the environment!
Airpods drive me nuts, too!! Omg everyone in my office walks around with them in their ears and it drives me nuts. I won't buy them for that reason haha. They look like ugly earrings 😂 Plus, I'm a Google gal!
I feel the same way about the ads this year! I got overwhelmed and so I just didn’t buy anything 🤷🏼♀️ I stopped buying Starbucks/coffee out. It was a habit on my way to work and I realized I was spending $20 a week! I also love target and would always spend way too much, so I honestly don’t go there too often anymore. Saves a lot 😊
YES! I felt so overwhelmed. I started “Instagram blogging” and I simply put out there that I wasn’t going to share any sales because I didn’t want to add to all the noise. It’s so commercialized to buy buy buy. But just because something is on sale doesn’t mean you have to or should buy it! Especially if you can’t afford it. Thanks for this Michelle!! Loving your videos lately💗
Totally! I definitely don't think it's bad to do sponsorships and share things that you use every day. This is why I've done sponsorships for Empower, the budgeting app I use. Or Trade coffee since I love my morning coffee! Or I have one coming with Crest white strips because I use them to get rid of my coffee stains (lol). I just don't think we need to buy everything just because it's on sale! Feel free to let me know what your Insta is- would love to check it out!
We do the secret Santa exchange in my family too! It’s just way too much to buy for everyone and you end up just buying random things. We’ve loved doing it this way instead!
Love this content! SO refreshing. Something I don't buy anymore is artificially scented candles/body lotions/ perfume because of all the chemicals in them! I found this out from a netflix documentary called "stink" and it's changed how I buy everything.
Love this video! It's so refreshing to see. Just a friendly tip from an English major- you should consider getting a library card! It's totally free, and you can request holds so that you get the specific books you want really easily. Saves me like $50-$100 a month!!
i love this so much! i’ve been on a similar journey of budgeting and cutting down on all of the things that i have. i realized that i don’t need to keep buying things to feel happy. i’m trying to be more content with less. also, your hair looks great! 💘
I almost NEVER buy books, I check things out from local library! I think books are great gifts and I own a lot of my all time favorites, but I seriously encourage everyone to use libraries for all that they offer!!

true -- but UA-cam is more of an information and entertainment based model, rather than say -- instagram which can be more advertising based. I think she totally can promote this message because her channel offers info on living day to day life rather than simply fashion!
I really agree about the apple watch! I had one and I found I was spending way more time on my phone compared to now that I don’t have one anymore. Being so connected that you see every notification immediately really causes you to spend more time using your phone.
One thing I changed this year is buying books. #1 I can go to the Library for free where I live 😁 #2 I don't have space for a bunch of books #3 I don't buy a book unless it's used or I have finished the one I bought before.
Paying for services that I can do for myself (ie. waxing, nails, taning) Thank you so much for making this video, it sounds weird but it validated what I have been trying to do for myself, moving out on my own for the first time comes with many new expenses and it helps seeing others also try and cut down on excess items... Love you Michelle
im so glad you mentioned airpods! I feel exactly the same way, I do like the bluetooth feature for running/working out but I just can't bring myself to buy them because it feels like people wear them 24/7 and it bothers me too!
You don't have to finish books that you don't like. If you DNF a book, donate it. Some places will even buy back books (like the Strand in NYC) from you; you won't make the full cost back but it's better than nothing. Cut down your book costs by buying secondhand (thriftbooks.com is a great resource but plenty of stores are great for that too).
I kinda thought that about Apple watches but got a GREAT deal on one so I bought it and it has lowkey changed my life haha. SO motivating to be more active or to workout because of the activity circles and I just love it tracking my runs. Truly will not workout if I don’t have my watch. Also nice if my phone dies since I can still text or call!
Michelle is the most refreshing UA-camr hands down....literally effortless beauty! She’s not trying to be someone she’s not and I think that’s what makes her such a powerhouse. Thank you for this video in the midst of the most crazy consumerist time of the year!!!
I felt similarly overwhelmed this year and I totally am on the same path as you right now!! I looove the direction your channel is going but you’re always awesome!!
love this video Michelle, you are such a gem! I've definitely been implementing a lot of these in my life lately & have been so much happier. This also made me realize I def need to start finishing my books before buying more lol so thank you for that. & LASTLY, your hair looks bomb. xo
i really agree with your airpod opinion. i go to college and live on campus so i'm always around other students and people my own age, but nobody talks to anyone! the airpods give them a sense of security that they won't be bothered by someone. it totally takes the human social aspect out of college life. it's makes me sad when i go to a dining hall and everyone has headphones in and they are all sitting by themselves consumed by either their music or netflix show. there's nothing i can do besides not do that myself, but i wish people would realize what they were doing more and who they are around.
Something I do to save money is thrift shopping. There are eleven people in my family, and my siblings and I have grown up with a frugal mindset. There's a local bag sale where I can fill a bag for $5 - I remember finding a dress from Lulu's with the tags still attached, and since it was bag sale day the dress only cost about 10 cents!
I do love my airpods within reason, walking on the go etc! I have to say NO to notebooks too! I love the idea of filling up the ones you have! Newer subscriber, enjoying your channel! Happy holidays!

Same - like why do you constantly have to be listening to music or whatever ?
AirPods have been really useful for me because I no longer need separate earphones for my phone and laptop.

Thank you so much for making this video, it sounds weird but it validated what I have been trying to do for myself, moving out on my own for the first time comes with many new expenses and it helps seeing others also try and cut down on excess items... Love you Michelle
im so glad you mentioned airpods! I feel exactly the same way, I do like the bluetooth feature for running/working out but I just can't bring myself to buy them because it feels like people wear them 24/7 and it bothers me too!
Love this , im tired of people showing what hey bought in their black friday hauls ...
also your hair is on pointtttt
We need a GRWN for this look YOUR SO CUTE
I AGREE SO MUCH ABOUT THE AIRPODS IN NO WAY IS THAT OKAY TO BE CONSTANTLY STIMULATED!! all my friends think I am crazy for this!
Also nice if my phone dies since I can still text or call!
when you said "its a vibe" it threw me off lmao
Michelle is the most refreshing UA-camr hands down....literally effortless beauty! She’s not trying to be someone she’s not and I think that’s what makes her such a powerhouse. Thank you for this video in the midst of the most crazy consumerist time of the year!!!
I am so with you on the AirPods thing, it totally reminds me of Fahrenheit 451!! Glad to know I’m not alone in this unpopular opinion haha
