    I did my first day adventure with a friend two weeks ago. Trip, if you remember me, you know I been planning this for a long time. It was an amazing scout trip. I caught some fish and we found the perfect spot to stealth camp.
    So tomorrow morning myself and a friend are headed out for our first overnighter. Both are doing the hammock camping. The plan is to kayak about 4 miles down the Ashley River in Charleston, SC. We will actually be on the lower Ashley in the Summerville area. We plan to kayak down, set up camp, get the fire set up so it's ready to light, then head down river about another 4 miles fishing and exploring before coming back just before dark to cook, eat, and enjoy the fire. The plan is to video the trip. I purchase the same camera you suggested. So my first overnight trip and first time using the cam. Should be an adventure. Thanks for the many trips and tips you've shared with me over the years. I hope it prepared me enough. We will see.
    Another great video here. I'd love to make the big trip with the 20 subscribers. Oh, and that fish looked like some good eatin.

      Awesome Joe! Oh yea, I remember bud. I guess you have headed out now, hope you are having blast!!! Oh it will definitely be and adventure, hope you video turns out well. You are very welcome. I'm sure you'll be prepared enough to survive at least lol The fish was GREAT and I hope you will be able to make the group trip as well!

    I seriously get so happy when you post a new adventure. Much better than Netflix. Have you ever considered building your own kayak? It's really easy to do. I built an 18' yak using the "strip" method. You should build one and record the whole process.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 років тому

      Haha! That's awesome Matthew! Thanks for the awesome kind words. I have thought about it yes. Actually some of my first videos back in 2009 were of my building a stitch and glue sailing dinghy. It was a fun process but a long one, although pretty rewarding. At the moment, I think I'm better off spending what little time I do have going paddling vs building a yak. Plus, if I built something so beautiful I'd had scratching it up.... I am a bit rough sometimes on my yak.

    I wish we had the same weather over here in Ireland. Its so hard to get motivated to go out in the cold, rainy weather. Our rivers arent as massive as yours either but we have to make it work. I would love one day to do a big river trip over in the US. Keep the videos coming, they are what inspired me to get into kayaking.

    • @TripSmith

      Yea, rainy cold is tough to get motivated in for sure... You've just got to work with whatever you're given. Hope you are able to get out and enjoy it sometime soon! I'll keep them coming, so glad to hear you've been inspired!

    Watching you and Zoffinger made us get our kayaks in Sept. We can't wait for April to roll around to get back out on the water here in Ohio. (it's a little chilly now) We have plans for Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania to explore come spring. Just want to say keep it up you give inspiration to the people and might be the push to put them over the edge to head out for adventure.

    Have you tried fly fishing? Rods packs up tight so they can fit in the kayak, the tackle box can fit in your pocket and still have tones of flys. Plus the flys can be fun to make when you have time to kill at camp and the best part is I never caught fish with a standard rod and real but fly fishing well that's a different story.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 років тому

      I haven't Connor... It sounds like there may be some advantages to fly fishing. I can just envision myself getting my line caught in every tree lol. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll see about looking into it.

      Way to go man to Get Out There!!!! Proud to hear that the younger generations are excited about it as well. I don't want to bust your bubble but, I think for some weird legal reasons I may have to limit the trip to 18 years old or older.... Not something I wanted to do but there are lots of crazy things that happen out there these days legally. This is advice that I got from an attorney... It MIGHT change, but I just wanted to let you know man. You never know though, maybe we will still paddle together sometime outside of a charity trip.

    The best catfish is smoked catfish. It's very easy to do once you learn the routine, and you can munch on it safely for breakfast and lunch the next day. Perhaps longer, I've never had any last past that long. Lol

    G’day Trip thanks for the videos really enjoy the adventures have been slow pickin up little bits and pieces to build up my kit was down to pickin up a kayak I put add on my local paper to get a yak cheap to start
    A lady rang and gave me a kayak and said when I no longer need it to “pay it forward again” and give it away I’m going to!
    Maybe your fans that watch and have extras that are just sit gathers dust think of maybe doin this and get sameone into this wonderful way of living and see our beautiful world as well it changed the way I see myself and things I may not be using fully
    Thanks again I’m about to set off and see islands around Moreton bay(Rady Bay) in Queensland Australia where I live

We both live outside of Atlanta so are open to anywhere in the surrounding area up to say a 2 hour drive? The Chattahoochee trip in this video would work too but we are looking at doing like a 3 day trip at the least. Thanks and I love the video! I already have a slew of light weight camping gear we just need a route!

    Hey Trip, so will there be a total of 15-20 people on the trip? I'd do a road trip to Alabamee from Texas to get out there with you and some friends for a day or two. Will my Bass Tracker fit in that river? Promise I'll go slow, and no wake!

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 років тому

      Correct, 15-20 people. That would be awesome if you were to come, unfortunately I don't think a bass tracker would make it. It's going to be paddle/pedal craft only anyhow.... Craigslist has them cheap every day!

    Love the video and the trip, Trip. Concerning the life straw, I do not like the idea of leaning my face down to the water, especially with alligators, snakes, etc nearby. I suggest scooping water into a cup before using the life straw. Not to mention you had to kneel down with your knee in the water. Keep up the great videos Brother.

      Chaz! I love it to man! Well.... I might "trespass" a little every once and a while ;) I'm very respectful to any land I camp on and I'm usually by myself so a landowner probably wouldn't care about the lone kayak camper needing a spot o camp you know?
