  • Welcome back, and in today’s video we are going to be doing one of the last simple POV videos on the channel. I will still be doing them in the future however they will have a meaning behind them for example as a guide, or impressions.
Anyway, today we are visiting Bacton Woods which is in North Norfolk. Bacton woods has been a biking hotspot for many years in Norfolk, however its fell down the charts and isn’t quite as popular now due to the likes of places like Weybourne which is also really good. Bacton woods has many trails, and due to its small size at only 450 acres, it’s hard to get lost. In this video we are riding the best trails Bacton has to offer including a massive Bomb Hole and some good Downhill lines. If you live in Norfolk and want another place to ride, then I highly recommend visiting here.
Apologies for the wind noise throughout the video and awful audio, I changed setup for this video by using the hero 8 instead of the 7, never again. The microphones are in awkward spots and pick up a lot of wind aswell as not picking up voices very clearly. Next video I will use the hero 7 again with the crisp audio. 🤘
Anyway, thanks for watching and Right, Let’s Go Ride!

Apologies, there are few things wrong in this video:
    > Firstly, apologies about the wind noise and quiet audio, it was a very windy day and the hero 8 did an awful job at coping, hence why I’m moving back to the Hero 7.
    > Also UA-cam has messed up the quality for some reason and even 4K looks blurry???

Given that we have hardly any trails in Norfolk, it's surprising to see how neglected this place can get. We need a group of people to manage and maintain places like this in Norfolk. I know Weybourne has a decent group of people looking after it and this place totally needs the same.

The riding is spectacular in this wood.
Decent uphills and downhills, jumps, obstacles, and the occasional log. Most with easier routes if you need them. It also has a nice mix of horses, dogs, cyclists, adults, children, and tons of wildlife in space. Lots of birds and squirrels for starters, deer too.
Serene with distinct seasonal changes, it's navigable almost all year round with the right tyres: the 'wet shallow mud on a hard base' sections can provide some entertaining sideways off-season moments. There will also be times when you have no choice but to ride through pedal-deep bog, and on one occasion it rained so much the grease got completely washed out of the bike's crown and headset. It was a squeaky and gravelly ride home.
Your poor arse will thank you for full suspension: Bacton is not short of roots. It has more roots than Roots Manuva having a root canal while driving on Route 66 in a Rutabega-coloured Winnibego.
It's great as it is, and would benefit from maintenance at the same time. An awkward un-banked 90-degree left-hander at the bottom of one downhill section can be a bit of a sphincter-puckerer, and the log jumps in one of the centre sections could be a little more accessible. Good to see someone blasting through them all though.
There is a volunteer team who tidies the trails and I know of at least one guy who built rideable see-saws and other tricks in there.

looks like you need to know where you are going before riding other wise you'll spend most of the time looking where to go. No good unless its maintained or way marked

It's not too bad - just think of it as a slightly lop-sided square with the car park in the '2' position on a clock face.
If you get lost, just keep riding in the same direction until you get to a bit you recognise. If you hit the edge of the woods (road or field), turn either left or right and follow the edge until you get back to the car park. The perimeter is only 2km-3km depending on the specific path you take.

This trail isn't maintained or really riden anymore. My youngest and I ride it perhaps twice a month but its pretty much vanished

That’s a shame. Is there much still up there at all? Haven’t been since this video

@TrailTrialerMTB not really no. The top section with the bigger rollers is still there but all the smaller berms have gone. Its still fun but in a "off piste" kinda way

Where’s the best place to park and how long ago did you film this?

    • @TrailTrialerMTB
      @TrailTrialerMTB  3 роки тому

In the main car park as a lot of the trails start and lead off from this point. It’s easy to access and from the car park, you can get to anywhere in the forest within 10 minutes max due to the fact it’s not a massive forest. I filmed it a couple of weeks back, so fairly recent. 👍👍

@@TrailTrialerMTB cool. I read somewhere that the trails had fallen into disrepair. I’ll get myself up there soon. Might do that and Mousehold Heath on the way.

@@bassnut Yeah, they are definitely not in disrepair. They were about a year ago however lockdown meant more people were riding it and building there so it’s back in full swing now and the trails are definitely not in disrepair. 👍

The car park is right in the NorthEast corner of the Wood. There's a perimeter trail you can take going either way from there (South or West), and a criss-cross of other trails through the middle. It goes almost as far South as where the North Walsham road meets the canal.
